    ...ultimately useless. What we all want to know if did Mars support life? All the missions to Mars were not equipped to answer that fundamental question. NASA needs to finally design fund a mission to answer that question. Otherwise it is just pretty pictures and things to make planetary geologists happy, and they are going to lose funding and interest very quickly.

    He isn't moving us towards space. He is launching LEO satellites. You cannot change Physics. It is not possible to emigrate to space. You need to understand the distances involved.

    It is rather amusing that SpaceX claims that their technology is "loaded with sensors" so they can diagnose any issues while they are occuring, but then Musk is on Twitter asking for iPhone videos of the launch.

    You will never convince the space nutters. They always say "well at one point someone said that people couldn't fly in airplanes" so it MUST be possible to fly to andromeda. No one is going to tell them different!

    Yes we get it: you can obtain information by listening and measuring things. I can write software that can identify a car and how fast it is travelling with 90% accuracy just using the microphone on a smartphone. Is this what passes for research today in CS? If so, we are doomed.

    No it doesn't. The money people are going to do it anyway. Whether you take the money and train your replacement or not doesn't matter. Jobs will continue to be outsourced because there is money to be made/saved.
