    Welcome to the new Open Source world folks. Software development used to be a lucrative rewarding profession (both intellectually and monetarily). Now its just a field of people climbing over themselves in order to write code for mega-corporations for free.

    The difference is that there are already proper words for the ones you are attempting to fabricate: "boxes" and "viruses". There are no proper words for "Googled" (assuming that means "searched with Google").

    Attempting to use made-up terms as replacements for proper ones is just ridiculous. And, yes, "ain't" isn't proper, which is why it is marked as "nonstandard". Using that in conversation is just as telling as using "boxen" and "virii".

    Did you ever stop to think that Linux may actually be terrible, and that Linux people don't address the problems? You know, just because some people have a different view then the groupthink on slashdot it doesn't make the "hateful". I also think that Linux is going in the wrong direction. Of course saying that here is pointless.

    Because the states DIDNT want paper trails - and they still don't. The entire idea of electronic voting is to get rid of the goddamn paper. I have no idea where people get the idea that having a paper printout makes the system more secure. It doesn't.

    You are wrong. If Linux loses mindshare you will see the development slow. You have seen already the opposite: as Linux gains momentum the development speed grows.

    If Linux goes back to being a niche player it will for all intents be dead. It is important for Linux to keep growing. Linus and Alan (and the other key people) are now getting paid. If that stops they likely will quit, or significantly cut back on their contributions, because they are grown up and they have wives, kids and need an income. Other people can step in, but the learning curve will be incredibly steep and Linux will have fallen behind before they can finish the transition.

    Linux has grown beyond the point where it can be effectively maintained by part time volunteers.

    This is exactly correct. The fact that you have been modded down as "offtopic" shows that the Linux users still don't get it. Mobile/embedded devices are going to drive the market. If you have a mobile OS that integrates nicely with your desktop/server OS then you are going to win.

    Microsoft knows this, which is why they are pouring money in Windows Mobile.

    Well I would certainly HOPE they would fix it for "free". You just bought it a month ago and it stopped working! It would still be under warranty - they weren't doing it to be nice. You even say it still crashes.

    If I were you I would send that hunk of junk back for a full refund.

    How many shares of RHAT do you own? A little advice: sell. Novell has the experienced sales force and existing sales channels (established from years of Netware sales) that will beat RHAT on any major deal.

    Whether one product is "better" than another product is secondary to most buying decisions.

    Nice thought, but unions are also corporations. According to your login then unions are after profit, only profit.

    Also, please point out the OSS people who have "made huge amounts of money", other than the executives at Redhat, IBM, etc. And those people are certainly not putting significant amounts of money into the OSS community. The CEO of Redhat has made over $300 million in compensation since the IPO. How much of that have you seen spread around to the OSS community?

    Yeah, see thats why they call these things, ya know, "plug-ins". You know, so you can, like, "plug them in", if you need their capabilities, and, you know, NOT "plug them in" if you don't, like, need their capabilities.

    Thats great that YOU don't need video, but its possible that somewhere on the earth someone might want or need video. This gives them the flexibility to add it to their setup.

    Amazing isn't it?

    I mean read some of these sentences:

    and

    Uh, .NET isn't a language. C# is a language. Java is a language. C is a language. .NET is a term that refers to a set of technologies that consist of a CLR and a framework. If you don't know what that is then you aren't a development so it doesn't matter to you.
