I think this is a good move on Yahoo!'s part. As a developer I think a solution that is available and 50% effective is better than a solution that no one has implemented yet.
Lets get the implementations out there in the wild and use the feedback to create real solutions!
Er, you complained that the scale didn't take into account the climes that the people of India and god-knows-where else were exposed to. I was pointing out that no one cares about India when making such decisions.
Um, we had to pay for these watches out of our own pocket. We even have to pay for our embroidered shirts with the mission name on them! Its not our tax $$.
People like you don't understand: no one cares about India or Australia or Africa or whereever-some-godforsaken-spot-you-are-on when making decisions about such topics. The scales for temperatures are based on WESTERN climes for a reason - because that is where SCIENCE IS and has been in the modern age.
The situation is similar to the silly people who claim that we should all learn Spanish because there are a hell of a lot of Spanish people in the world and doing so will give them "an edge" in the job market. Or that China is an important market to get into because there are a billion or so people in the country at the moment. The un-PC fact is that most of those people don't matter for all practical purposes.
What a sad end to a once-proud engineering company. HP is now reduced to flogging low margin gizmos in an effort to survive. Carly truly needs to be removed.
Windows is used in 90%+ desktops and a majority of server environments. There is NO INDICATION that those numbers are going to change dramatically in the next 5 year time frame, even though slashdotters want to believe differently. IBM cannot afford to "bet it all" on the hope that Linux takes over as the next big thing. They need to keep their feet in the Windows camp as well.
I don't care if they are contemporary or not. There are contemporary authors who are world class (Umberto Eco for example).
No on is EVER going to consider Stephenson as world class. Based on the less than insightful comments that Sterling made in the interview, I doubt he will too.
I have read LeGuin at least (when I was a kid). It isn't that the books aren't entertaining (I enjoy scifi myself) - it is just that they are not truly meaningful and not written very well.
It is the difference between a "movie" and a "film". No one is going to confuse Greg Bear with Umberto Eco.
It is not the end. You cannot just replace the code retroactively. There has been a lot of people who have made money off of that code. They would need some sort of reperations. That would get messy and would hurt Linux's adoption rate.
SPF has already been proven ineffective and obtrusive. If you weren't keeping up with the results, please try to. We need better solutions.
Besides, I was just trolling for karma with a quick post. Give me a break.
No, what makes him wrong is tha fact that he challenges the Slashdotters worldview.
Lynch him.
Yes! That asshole! How dare he let me keep my money.
There is nothing more self-destructive than a Democrat arguing AGAINST letting the people keep the money they have earned.
Dude, this is SLASHDOT. If you post anything "anti-M$" you get +5 Informative.
I love spoilt children like you. How about I pay for a one way ticket for you to any country you choose?

All my income comes from my JPL job. So?
Made they did give the evidence - and it turned out that SCO has a case! No, that can't be possible in Slashdot-world.
Satire is a form of comedy. It is not a sitcom though.
Troll? How is this a troll? I don't understand moderators.

I know what the scales are based on.
Um, we had to pay for these watches out of our own pocket. We even have to pay for our embroidered shirts with the mission name on them! Its not our tax $$.

The FSF is only interested in GNU software. We don't have the resources to investigate every potential GPL violation.
Huh? How does that reasoning follow? Face it, the "country" is just a leech. As a NZ taxpayer I resent them.
Grab the archive? Its on sourceforge.

There is no way that could be a hoax. They have a website and everything!
awww, are you still a little bit steamed that Al Bore lost?
Newflash, aint no Democrat gonna win next time either.
huh? btw, I meant Faulkner not Faulker! lol!
Wow. Faulker is a niche? I would say that almost everyone with a High School education has read a Faulker book.
