Besides, I was just trolling for karma with a quick post. Give me a break.

I think this is a good move on Yahoo!'s part. As a developer I think a solution that is available and 50% effective is better than a solution that no one has implemented yet.

Lets get the implementations out there in the wild and use the feedback to create real solutions!

People like you don't understand: no one cares about India or Australia or Africa or whereever-some-godforsaken-spot-you-are-on when making decisions about such topics. The scales for temperatures are based on WESTERN climes for a reason - because that is where SCIENCE IS and has been in the modern age.

The situation is similar to the silly people who claim that we should all learn Spanish because there are a hell of a lot of Spanish people in the world and doing so will give them "an edge" in the job market. Or that China is an important market to get into because there are a billion or so people in the country at the moment. The un-PC fact is that most of those people don't matter for all practical purposes.

Windows is used in 90%+ desktops and a majority of server environments. There is NO INDICATION that those numbers are going to change dramatically in the next 5 year time frame, even though slashdotters want to believe differently. IBM cannot afford to "bet it all" on the hope that Linux takes over as the next big thing. They need to keep their feet in the Windows camp as well.

I have read LeGuin at least (when I was a kid). It isn't that the books aren't entertaining (I enjoy scifi myself) - it is just that they are not truly meaningful and not written very well.

It is the difference between a "movie" and a "film". No one is going to confuse Greg Bear with Umberto Eco.

It is not the end. You cannot just replace the code retroactively. There has been a lot of people who have made money off of that code. They would need some sort of reperations. That would get messy and would hurt Linux's adoption rate.
