Admittedly there is something to be said for the manner BASIC interpreters (and any others besides) were supplied with many personal computers in days of yore, but let's not get ahead of ourselves. The way some of the guys posting here are talking, you could be forgiven for thinking that all those who cut their teeth in such an environment were masters of the science of programming and nobody who learned in any other way will never achieve such greatness.
There were good programmers in those days just as there are good programmers now. My suggestion to those who keep whining on in this way is to cut the BS, as they're all beginning to resemble the same broken record...
This is the pricing we've been used to in the UK.
The Xbox and PS2 were both released here for £299 ($555.89). When they were released in the states for what was the equivalent of £160.825 ($299). So when you're forking out your $600, have a think about what we're gonna have to pay!
If you're a kid from scotland (or australia, or ireland/northern irelan) then swearing is not only part of xbox live, it's part of everyday vocabulary. Seriously, it's not even "swearing" 90% of the time in certain contexts. If swearing is considered a problem then we should get our own section of the internet -- although god only knows what it would look like (www.somethingawful.com, perhaps?)
Yeh, I used to live there. Always wind, occasionally accompanied by a slight hint of fish while strolling down union street. I Still love the place, mind.
It seems we could quite happily reach our targets. Our 3rd largest city, Aberdeen, will be powered solely by wind in the near future (as a large wind-farm out at sea is in the pipeline. Quite ironic, as Aberdeen is the oil capital of europe:). IIRC The Isle of Skye may also have a windfarm and there's a couple more planned.
Forget about solar energy though, our annual sun quota (approximately one day, give or take a few hours) would provide enough energy to power a digital watch. For a few minutes. Just.
It's vaguely funny to begin with, but it's FAR too long to be hilarious. It soon reaches the "Yeah, we get the point" mark long before it reaches its end.
What about good old RPSSL (rock, paper, scissors, spock, lizard).

$100k a year is certainly nothing to sneeze at, but what happens when inevitably some are deemed "surplus to requirements" and have to apply to get a new job? How will it look on your resume "Nov 2002 - April 2005: Played computer games." Doesn't really give the impression of a hard worker, does it?
Given the choice between the MIT, Berkeley or HWU (nobody heard of Heriot-Watt? dang!) graduate, and a bloke who has been festering in front of some computer game for however long, I know who I'd choose.

Hmm, I hadn't thought about poking around much after seeing that it "Has Not Released Any Files" - didn't think to check the CVS section. Thanks for clearing that up.

I love the way the "i'm sitting here at my freelance gig" troll has been updated for the 21st Century. He certainly earned the upgrade (posting it at every mac story for goodness knows how long).
I was hoping he'd change it to "i'm sitting here naked and petrified..." though. We can but hope...
No 'O' ?
So it's more like Ttawa? Nice one.

How can this be flamebait? Welcome to the slashdot reality distortion field!

That's almost 10x better!

Telewest have a pay-per-view movie service called "Front Row" on cable.

"This Project Has Not Released Any Files"
But stranger, apparently the speex codec was added to this project with "no files".
