If I mention that Amiga is working [or contracting out the work] for a PowerPC board and that they are close to finishing a PPC version of the AmigaOS, or if I mention that there is already a company that has the developers PPC boards [of their own design] that will run MorphOS [an Amiga-like OS], will I be flamed?
At the risk of being labeled a fanatic, I'm just going to say that pro audio can be done quite well on an Amiga. And that's all I'm going to say since most people here seem to tune out after the word 'Amiga' anyway.
I would love to try it. I've downloaded it, but when I try to create my account it always times out without ever logging on to their server. I've got a feeling that this is due to the firewall here at work, though. I'm open to suggestions.
The way that I read it was that traffic, per se, wasn't what was down. What was down was the number of shared songs per user.
"Webnoize, a 'digital intelligence' company that has been monitoring Napster usage for a while, reported on Thursday that the number of shared songs per Napster user had fallen 60 percent since Napster began filtering MP3s on Wednesday."
I don't know about the specifics in the MS case, but I was hired as a temp by a small startup company 3 years ago. Then a larger company became interested in buying the startup and I was told that if that happened that I would be hired as a perm. employee. Well they got bought and I waited, and I waited. Finally they told me that they didn't want to hire "support" people [I am a facility tech. A job, BTW, that they need someone to do no matter what] so that they could show a higher percentage of "scientific" workers. Earlier this year the bigger company that bought the startup merged with an even bigger company. Still they said that they didn't want to hire "support people" [yet they hired a secretary for the head guy just 6 months ago]. Now we all have learned that, due to the merger, our small division is going to be shut down. All those perm. employees, including that secretary who has only been here 6 months, are getting from 6 to 11 months pay for severance. And me? I can't even get a letter of recommendation [it's against corporate policy]. Sure, I guess I had the choice to leave, but it was still better than not working. After all, I find that being employed is better than not [I've had a hard time finding work since I broke my neck a few years ago, but I'm not bitching about that; it's something that I know I have to deal with so I do]. It's just that, somehow, I just don't find this fair. But, hey, I already knew that life ain't fair. That doesn't keep me from being just a tad bit bitter and pissed off about it, though.
Dude, a theremin is NOT a synth, nor is Clavioline [you even said synth-like, which is not synth]. My whole point is that the Monkees were the first to use a SYNTHESIZER. Not a something that was synth-like but a real, honest to goodness, genuine synthesizer.
Well, apart from the Monkees NOT being rock.... Actually the first use of a synthesized sound in popular music in the 60s was the Beach Boys including a Theremin in their hit "Good Vibrations".
Whether or not YOU want to consider the Monkees rock, that is what catagory most music books list them as. Not to mention that you obviously haven't heard more than their hits or you would not spout such ignorance. And no I'm not a teeny bopping Monkees fan, I just know how to give credit where credit is due. AND I had said it was the first use of a SYNTH, not synthesized sound.
The Beatles introduced a new Moog in the majestic "Because," on "Abbey Road," the last album they recorded.
Actually the first use of a synth in rock was, believe it or not, the Monkees. On their album "Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn, & Jones, Ltd." [released 11/67] the songs "Daily Nightly" & "Star Collector" used one. In fact the Beatles borrowed this very synth from them to use on "Abby Road". Check with any reputable rock historian to verify.
There are solutions for this on Amiga. There are a couple of sound cards that have high quality sound, with digital I/O, and SMPTE. Plus I recently saw a NL editing software plus a real nice HD recording solution. All cheaper than & equal to [if not better than] Mac & PC.

I think that it was Gallagher who said "If Con is the the oposite of Pro, then Congerss must be the opposite of Progress". Or something like that.

The new AmigaDE, of course!

In the history of Mankind? I would have thought that, if any wrestler, it would have been the Undertaker. [Ha Ha]
