Why would you expect "this" every year or 2? Now that they have USB, I doubt they're going to remove it.
Series 1 Tivos don't have USB, so no, they won't be able to use USB ethernet adapters. Since they no longer sell them, that's not really relevant.
Where were Freevo and MythTV when Tivo Series 1 was released?
If you want "expansion" stick with a PC. I don't hear anyone asking for "expansion" from their DVD player, television, or VCR.
I call FUD.
People have been saying that Tivo will go out of business for years. Has it happened yet? Nope, they're still going strong, with Tivo devices topping many Christmas lists this year.
Series 2 Tivos support USB ethernet adapters. No phone line needed.
Statistics? Yeah, they know you rented Spice last night. Big deal, so does the cable company, Spice, and a million other middlemen.
Lack of expansion? Are you referring to hard disk expansion? You can easily upgrade or put in a second drive.
I bought an open-box Tivo over 2 years ago. Never had ONE problem with it. Of course, I've never opened it up or made any kind of modifications to it either... but I am getting the itch for a larger hard drive.
You know, these end-of-the-world type web sites would be a little more believable if they didn't look like they were designed by a color-blind third grader.
True old school would be a boombox attachment for your iPod. Throw that bad boy over your shoulder, grab your cardboard, and find an alley for some breakdancing.
The dual-head video card is just one example of many. It IS a problem. Not only does Linux desktop not pass the grandma/soccer-mom test, it doesn't do the job for the vast majority of people who actually want to use a computer to do stuff without needing to recompile half of the OS.
The key phrase is "if all they did was...".
Is this all they're doing to improve security in Windows? It's just one way to try to (a) dissuade virus writer and (b) get good press.
Microsoft has launched security initiatives, which includes training their programmers to write more secure code, developing tools to analyze their source code and find common security holes like buffer overruns, and using managed code (like C#) instead of the potentially insecure C++ for new projects.
This might be a good thing or a bad thing, but it's true. While software and biological viruses share some traits (especially in the reproductive sense) the potential "positive" aspects of a virus are basically nil in the software world.
Actually, I'm not familiar with any biological viruses that have proven beneficial, other than having the effect of strengthening the hosts immune system (which is observed in software systems as well, with improvements in virus detection systems).
Not that simple. They have touted a very high attach rate since launch (highest in console history), even when they didn't bundle games with the system.
Even if you do count the 2 bundled games, the additional 3 would still be an outstanding attach rate.
Yes, Tivo does these things occasionally, but NOT at the expense of something you specifically told it to do, like this Belkin router does.
It will not delete your recordings to record an infomercial.
The thumbs-up "record this show" icon only appears during commercials, which most Tivo users skip over anyways.
I'm not familiar with the TV Guide icon myself (never seen it) but my guess is it falls under the same non-obtrusive category.
You know the scene in the Mos Eisley cantina where Han is confronted by Greedo, a bounty hunter? In the original film, Han shot Greedo first, and strolled his cocky ass out of the joint.
In the Special (as in Olympics) Edition, Greedo shoots first, misses from 2 feet away, and THEN Han kills the sumbitch.
The problem with Greedo shooting first is that the original version put Han on the edge of good/bad. He changes in the movie to be a great ally to Luke and Leia, but only after some FUD (fear/uncertainty/doubt) experienced by the audience. In the new version, Han loses the bad-guy edge and is a bit less interesting a character.
"h31pm3" is l337 for "help me". It's a little hacker joke.

Hardware upgrades will still cost you money, even with free software.

Ummm, I think he was joking.
Cease and Desist! You are in violation of the DMCA, and your terror will end now, violator! The lawyers will be knocking on your door in 3... 2...
If you're done trolling against Microsoft now...
It was a month, which is a long time for a programmer to be away from his desk. This initiative alone cost Microsoft MUCH more than $5M.

Trinity, on cell phone: "OK, I'm ready for extraction."
Tank: "gfdaf..skjjfi...."
Trinity: "Can you hear me now?"
Actually, I think we're extremely overdue for a SCO article at this point.
Software != Biology

Bacteria, on the other hand...
Yes, PS1 was $300 when it came out.

Why do so many people call Greedo "Guido"? AFAIK, he wasn't even Italian.

So the Universe is basically a huge vibrator. That must mean [insert pr0n star or your mom here] is God!
Sssshhh! The terrorists will see this!
I'm guessing the FX stands for "framework". Anyone who has been around MFC and the WinSDK is familiar with AFX, the Application Framework.
