  1. GSM simluation in octave on Why Your Clock Radio Is All Abuzz About iPhones · · Score: 1

Just FYI, I did a little experiment to try to model the GSM interference using my Motorola phone, a small antenna, and a scope. I then built a model in octave which generates a wav file that sounds similar to the interference from the GSM data packaets. The code and wav file can be found here: http://www.pldr.org/?page_id=161

  3. But how does this relate to detecting poison? on Mixing brain cells and nanodots · · Score: 1

Call me a skeptic, but I fail to see the correlation between coaxing neurons to connect up in an organized way and building a sensor that is of practical for solving a particular problem. Most neuroscientists would probably agree that the apparent intelligence, or problem solving capability of columns in cortex is due to the interplay between groups of neurons that have been connected up in a very special way through, for example, pairwise co-occurrence of stimuli.

  4. Re:The simple answer is... on String Theory a Disaster for Physics? · · Score: 1

Well, I would have to dispute your presumption that the joke depends in any way on an infinite number of universes implying that all possible universes exist. Clearly, there are numerous constraints on the infinite set of universes predicted by String Theory. However, I would challenge you to prove that a universe in which "...major advances in Physics would have been made if so many smart scientists were not distracted by String Theory." does not satisfy those constraints.

  5. The simple answer is... on String Theory a Disaster for Physics? · · Score: 5, Funny

There exists a universe in which major advances in Phyics would have been made if so many smart scientists were not distracted by String Theory.

  6. Misdirected? on SanDisk Baits Apple And Woos Rockbox · · Score: 1

I'm not sure how mocking ipod owners in this way will entice potential ipod buyers into opting for something different. In my experience, people attracted to the ipod are kind of sheep like in many ways. Those that reject (or wish to reject) sheepish behavior tend not to like ipods. So this advert campaign with likely have little effect.

  7. twitchy foot cheat on New Shoe Designed to Kick-Start Couch Potatoes · · Score: 1

What about the millions who involuntarily jerk their feet up and down while watching TV? Will they be rewarded for bad behavior?

  8. Anonymous access in not enough... on Dissidents Seeking Anonymous Web Solutions? · · Score: 1

while the anonymous access problem is interesting, it seems that the larger problem here is avoiding compromising the sites to which you would publish the information. If the goal is to publish dissident information so as to form a resistance, then the residence time of the publication on the internet will be a major factor.
