Not trying to be repetitive, but I also find it strange that on a 2Ghz machine you are having problems. My 400Mhz, 128 RAM machine has absolutely no problems with iTunes. No "1 second wait" at all. No need to respond, just giving more testimony.

Ah, now just imagine if I could have a wireless iPod to connect to this. Yes I do have an iTrip already, but basically you could use the iPod as your portable remote/iTunes player and not have to worry about finding the best FM frequency on the stereo.

Apple touts their password protection and "other" security protocol. Hope this doesn't dampen your listening.

Seeing as Microsoft has discussed adding this feature to Longhorn when it comes out in 2018, I'm guessing that they will help the patent office "wow, look what we found" find something to keep Apple from getting this patent. One of the few features still being included in Longhorn is their Aero/Aero Glass (sure sounds like a rip off of Quartz/Quartz Extreme) functionality.

Ok, all sarcasim aside, we shouldn't be allowing patents like this, however I would sure love to see M$ have to license part of Longhorn from Apple :)

I also didn't use Expose much, that is until I connected the function to my mouse. Try attaching expose to the scroll wheel button (I never used to use that one), it works wonderful. Now it is very difficult to even imagine another way to use Expose. Just my two cents and suggestion.

  14. Re:Lies on New Tool Cracks Apple's FairPlay DRM · · Score: 1

Just a quick note on your photo-copying. If you own the shop manual, there are no problems in making a copy for personal use. If the manual was produced by the manuafactuer, and you do not own the manual, a photocopy is illegal distribution. It is highly unlikely that they will care because they have a vested interest in people understanding their cars. In the case with music, the recording companies and the musicians have an interest in selling the songs. Sure they want you to hear the music, but they want to you pay for it, so you should. I agree that everyone should be able to listen to the songs that they have bought however they wish to listen to it, but unfortunately that is not the product they are selling you. Instead of supporting software that strips DRM off music, why don't you instead be constuctive and support the the promotion of one open standard (and open DRM) so we can finish this format war and get back to enjoying our music they way we should.

  15. Re:switch( DRM ) on BusinessWeek on Opening Apple's iTunes DRM · · Score: 1

The problem with MS DRM is that I don't want to pay Microsoft money for every song that I purchase just to use their format. I am willing to pay a portion to the distributor of the music, but we should not be subsidizing MS by listening to music. With AAC and whatever DRM you use with it (Fairplay, or Real's, or whatever else they might think up) keeps my music budget out of the hands of MS. Is that too much to ask?

    1. MS does not make a good argument to not change, in fact they promoted their competitor IMHO.

    2. If MS doesn't use Office to create press releases, why should I?

    3. The pot has called the kettle black one two many times. Outlook, Office Macros, have been the cause of most of my virus problems, now they have let me know of a better option where I can do something to fix it.

  18. Re:No control for Apple on Apple's iPod Chip Supports WMA? · · Score: 2, Informative

Just to be clear, the standard that Apple is using, MPeg4 (also called AAC) is not an "Apple Standard". This is a standard developed by the dolby digital people, and similar to the MP3 format, only the next revision. This is an open format. What makes the Apple files more proprietary is their use of the "Fair-play" DRM, which is not an Apple technology, but one that they license, as could anyone else.
I agree that Apple could also have Ogg, or any other format easily, but right now they are not going that direction. They want to help set a new standard for compressed files similarly to what mp3 did. They are hoping mp4 replaces mp3 so that technology, music, and consumers can all benefit from digital music. If we as consumers what this technology to move forward we need to accept some compromise. Perhaps Ogg or even a lossless format will be the next step as broadband use expands, but as Bill Murray said "Baby Steps".

  19. What about playing AAC elsewhere on Apple's iPod Chip Supports WMA? · · Score: 5, Interesting

This is the same chip used by other MP3 players other than the iPod, which begs the question, why aren't more people supporting AAC on their players. >50% market share should be justification enough, nevermind the subjective debate of which format has higher quality.

Apple will continue to make money off the hPod because it is simply a re-branding scheme. Unlike Apple's failed attempt at licensing previously, this is the same iPod, different color, different name. Apple wins with whichever player is sold because they make them both.
