american cars tend to be larger and heavier, because of that they also tend to have larger engines.
Also, what's an American car? I drive an Honda, and more people I know own cars that are from companies outside the US (MB, BMW, Honda, toyota, etc...)
Wiles did create some great theorems while solving the Fermat theorem. One of his earlier failed proofs had many proofs in it that could be used in other areas of mathematics.
One way to handle this would be to have votes handled federally instead of at the state level. It would be nice to be able to vote anywhere in the country, and even places oversees (such as embassies, and military bases).
my roommate got an iRiver a few months after I got my iPod. His iRiver had trouble accessing the harddrive a few months after that, and tech support kept him on hold for over 30min multiple times (he assumed it wouldn't be that long so he called before having to go to class). Eventually it started working again, and then tech support started answering calls (funny how that works, isn't it?)
Simply put...I'd never get an iRiver... but I am curious, did anyone else have problems with an iRiver, either the hardware or the support line?
I hate to say it, but when I got my iPod here was no other mp3 player that was as small that also had over 5 gb of space. Since I was looking for something for when I workout and go on trips, those two aspects are what I cared most about.
The iPod is a good product, I don't understand why some people feel the need to bash it.
"C is faster then other languages. If you want speed use Assembly. Enjoy debugging that code and good luck trying to read it in a few months."
Maybe it's just me who thinks that Java may be doing to C/C++ what C did to assembly
I mean think about it...10 years ago programming in assembly was much more common, and C/C++ was used mainly when programmer productivity or portability was more importent then speed. Now the same is becoming true for Java.

My buddy is a computer tech at a school (Upstate New York). They have over 200 windows boxes (someone decided that every teached needed one in his/her classroom) and a few dozen macs.
Where I went to highschool in the mid-90's (Maryland), the labs were either dos or windows.
It does not get any easier no matter what shape you are in.
As someone who's be slowly getting in better shape over the last few years, I have to disagree with you. Certain activities that used to be a chore for me became a lot more fun. Now I do many activites (biking for example) for the sake of the activity instead of just to get in shape. Now it might be a change of attitute that did it, or I might revert in a few years...but for now, I think all it took was a few months of concentrated effort to get me started...which makes me wonder if that effort was the attitude change...okay, so now I'm confused...I'm not sure if I agree or disagree with you.
I wonder what caused the last ice age...not enough greenhouse gasses?
Seiously though, there is a lot we don't understand about our climate. The Earth has gone through and will continue to go through massive climate changes. Just because the climate is changing doesn't mean it's related to CO2. Then again, it might be, personally I don't know, but in order to convince me, you need to give a little more proof then global climate changes.
"It's my understanding that to accelerate some actual thing with mass, say like a person, to the speed of light, it would require the functional equivalent of all the energy in the Universe"
It would take more then that, all the energy in the Universe is finite, it would take infinate energy. Also, your assuming that photons have mass, and I'm pretty sure that they don't.
Until we, and I mean all the citizens of the United States, start acting like we're the owners of our nations, elected officals will do what they wish. We need to get better people in office, and yet I fear enough people will vote for Bush later this year...
Couldn't the customer just upgrade to the newer kernel and then use any vendor? If a customer needs a feature (and has the money or man-power), the customer is going to get it one way or another.
Name one compiler that completely follows the standard. I don't think one exists.
Also, I think the gp was mainly trying to express...how much easier it will be now that he can use the same compiler as those who grade him. Which raises a question, why are they grading you with a tool that they aren't providing? Or is it that they provide it in the labs but people want to work at home?
When working as a consultant you should never admit you don't know. As one of my bosses once told me, if you seem like you know everything they'll continue to hire you, but if you're honest and ask for help from the place that hired you they'll realize that they don't need you as much as they thought they did.
Take a look at J.A.D.E. Java Addition to Default Environment.
It seems to have some nice math and physics packages.

legally, how can the MPAA stop it? If NetFlix has a copy of each DVD for each tivo that has it downloaded, then they are doing nothing illegal.

From parent: "Air travel is the most dangerous form of transport around (the claim that it is the safest is based on distance travelled...)"
I can't seem to find any data to back that up...what I did find was this "From 1982 to 1998, a period of 17 years, there were a total of 8,109,000,000 passenger enplanements. During that same time period, there were 2,211 fatalities, and 348 serious injuries. This amounts to a 0.00003% chance of being seriously injured or killed in a commercial aviation accident. This is far less than any other mode of transportation. [Source: NTSB, Passenger Injuries and Injury Rates, 1982 through 1998.]"

Give them an old computer, and let them mess it up. That's what my dad did years ago, and that's why I'm in the computer field now.

ummm, the retina is at the back of the eye, lasik surgery (they type you seem to be describing, and the type I had) deals with modifying one's corneas
So from now on instead of calling certain girls and guys sluts, one should call them open source hookers?

Finally, the people who do nothing but play MMORPGs will feel comfortable in the real world.

Maybe Adobe will pay them to go after GIMP, that way photoshop will get that market as well...
Remember that it's backwards, that means read right to left, bottom to top. It says "This function transforms the buffer to little-endian."
Now who wants to take bets that someone will write a program/script to translate text into backwards 733+ speek?

if something is everywhere at once it's speed in infinate. The speed of light is finite.

It's also the bar's right to refuse you service if the mag strip isn't able to be read.
