This is not to mention documents on microfilm and/or microfiche and such. I'm 60 years old and over my life have spent a lot of time in libraries. Many libraries are excellent history repositories, treasure troves of information and history.
Depends upon what your degree in. If it's math, especially if you do your masters in math, a starting salary of very low six figures for a zero-experience college graduate is doable in many major cities especially in the financial world. If your degree is in Ancient Poetry, you may have a problem getting a job period.
The public doesn't want to pay taxes to fund 6-figure public sector salaries and pensions, and the people making that pay decide to cut libraries and schools instead of their own pay (shocking, I know - but to give some excuse, at the state level the constitution requires pensions be funded first), and the public is outraged.
Many historians would argue Japan was ready to surrender prior to the bombs being dropped. Some historians say Japan was actively trying to surrender before the bombs were dropped. But even taking what you say, it's still theory, not fact. It's not fact any more than Rumsfeld's theory that the US would take Iraq, that the US soldiers would be welcomed as liberators, and it would be a 30 to 90 day war which would cost no more than US$30Billion - And that Iraq oil revenues would pay for the war (i.e.: it wouldn't cost US taxpayers a cent). A few trillion US$ later..... You are still calling things "facts" when they're just your theory (aka a guess) as to how things would have played out.
/snip/ But one thing is clear beyond doubt: the offensive attack the US had planned if they didn't use the bomb would have been far worse. And that is historical fact.
"And that is historical theory." - There - Fixed that for you.
Your argument is flawed, because they are already a large military power who have repeatedly demonstrated their desire to conquer the world.
Let me think a moment... Which country is now in 3 outright wars (Iraq {which isn't over}, Afghanistan and now Libya {by proxy of the UN/NATO}) and one shadow war (Pakistan). I wonder which country in the world really does want to take over the world...
Technically the US is *currently* a fascist country (if you believe Wkipedia's definition of fascism) with a bit of "democracy" and a bit of "republic" thrown in for show. That isn't how the US started, but it's what it has become.
everything is controlled by Apple and if that's okay with you it actually works.
It's okay with you up until they decide to change things. This is the danger with walled gardens.
That's applicable to MS and, if you think about it, just about every company. Every company has their version of a "walled garden". The thing is, especially in tech forums like/. , to some people the two words together ("walled garden") have come to be associated with "bad" especially when the name Apple comes up.
OK - The car analogy: GM car parts typically don't fit Ford cars. Ford and GM (and all the others) are essentially "walled garden" companies. Are Ford and GM (and all the other companies) evil because they don't have interchangeable parts? About the only "choices" you get after you buy a car is what brand of oil and gasoline you can use.
As to change, I own a 2004 Pontiac Bonneville GXP. GM chose to discontinue the Pontiac brand, so sooner or later finding parts for it will become more difficult. Apple isn't the only company that changes in ways which negatively affect some of their customers.
I've been hearing "The only reason every Mac isn't infested with malware is that they're not a big enough chunk of the market for it to be worth the effort." for so many years the effect has worn off. Year after year - You know, it really gets old hearing that excuse. If that really is the case, I hope it continues.
Forums vs. Wikis is a false equivalence. Apples vs. oranges.
A Wiki is essentially like a book. You can read it but you can't really discuss things.
Forums are for discussions. They are not meant to be read like a book. As to forums like cell phone forums, they're a dime a dozen just like web sites that sell jewelery. That doesn't mean there aren't some really good forums out there. Personally I don't have any desire to edit a Wiki. I do enjoy quite a few forums, though, because I like the discussions. I have forums and wikis online and the wikis bore me. I like the discussions in the forums. That's why I visit/. a few times a day. When I want information in text book form I'll hit Wikipedia.
If a hottie with pipes like this going unsigned for 10 years doesn't convince you that piracy is killing the industry, nothing will. Gene Simmons called her "the best unsigned singer out there", she's being called "Amy Winehouse without the baggage" and "a super-hot Susan Boyle" by industry-leading agents and label reps.
What poppy cock. There are hundreds of thousands of great singers in the world. I've seen local singers who come close to Laura Nyro (RIP). Same for musicians. There are hundreds of thousands of *great* musicians in the world. You fine 1 person who *you* think is a "hottie" and should be "signed". So what. Piracy isn't killing these people's living. Many don't even sing or play music for a living. I know a bass player who is unbelievable, but he's a bartender by trade because he wants to be. He loves to jam, but isn't interested in the commercial aspect. He's gone without a contract for about 40 years. Face it - The internet is making (has made?) the "Big Labels" obsolete.
Why not come out and say it - Bing needs to copy Google's results because the Bing algorithm sucks. But - I'm happy they're doing it. I get a lot of people from Google searches coming to my web sites and traffic from Bing is picking up significantly as of late.
At the rate things are going, US workers (other than the top 1% such as banksters and upper management in large corporations) will soon be at wage parity with Chinese factory workers. Who could ask for anything more?
Yup - And the simplest thing to do is to never carry a 'dirty' phone. I keep very little on my smart phone other than some 'apps' I use now and again so they can look through it any time they want to. I always assume my phone will be lost or stolen when I leave the house. I've never had a phone stolen, nor have I ever lost one, but I know people who have lost their phones and a couple ended up very sorry that they kept all the info they did on it.
I also have a 'clean' laptop for travel. Same principle. I can VPN to my home server when I'm away and do what I want that way.
Exactly what 'victory' did (has) the US achieved in Iraq after all these years (other than to plow US$Billions by the pallet load into it and to kill Saddam)?
I was thinking the same thing. Enron, those fine people who darned well showed the world how well deregulation of electricity would reduce prices... ROTFL. People forget so quickly. The IEEE has its head up it's political ass to suggest deregulation.

This is the stuff I like: "Walker gives lobbyist's college dropout son an $81,000-a-year job - With no degree and little expertise, Wisconsin Governor’s appointee pulls in big bucks" http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2011/04/04/with-no-degree-and-little-expertise-wisconsin-governors-appointee-pulls-in-big-bucks/

Just what we need. Better killing machines...
Yup - And there are Mac botnets everywhere, too! Not...
This type of stuff is what is leading the revolutionary change to devices like the iPad. Few people need "real" computers any more.
This is /. - And you don't expect editorializing? You have to be kidding.

Good products that "Just Work" sell themselves.
Too bad I don't have any mod points right now to mod you up. I'm LMAO!

It's pretty simple to say "I really really want what that person has, so someone should take it from him and give it to me."
OK, Sarah... What ever you say...

Grandmothers as a good portion of Apple's target demographic? I seriously doubt it.

Gawker is sorta like "The National Enquirer" except it's on the internet rather than on grocery store shelves at the check out lane.
