My guess is you've never worked on a distributed coding project with over 500 active developers who you've never met face to face.:-P
Its very hard to keep track of all of the things people want you to add to the kernel and make certain that the things you're adding aren't breaking anything, etc. So the linux kernel development process has a number of branches where things get tested first(in addition to the stable branches of the 2.0,2.2,2.4 kernels that need to be maintained). Its been going like this for years. Alan Cox has a branch(ac), Morton's branch is mm.
looks like this article hit a nerve with you today.:-)
The interesting thing about being in Medicine is that the only people you see are the sick ones and it isn't worth the risk to a physician to "chance" illness because they see the devestation of it every day.
The patient however is around healty people every day, therefore they are less likely to think that they'll be the one to get sick. After all they don't know anyone who had a bad operation or got sick.
Personally, I'm of the same opinion as you on these things...but I've never been out of shape in my (short) life, have an amazing metabolism, and am really good at forgetting to eat. But there are people for whom it would be a health risk not to do these things for and I'm glad they have the option.
They are both Scum Sucking User Screwing Businesses. If I want to fight Microsoft, I'll invest in OpenOffice sending them my $350*$NUM_USERS. THAT IS A GOOD INVESTMENT. Not Sun which will be gone in 5 years.
Well, not for all Americans. I'm not competing with these other countries and am happy to be one of the.7% of Americans that enjoy bb even though its sad that it runs on copper and not a full fiber connection straight to my residence.
As the Canadian so rightly put it...American Business Interests have taken a well run government monopoly deregulated it and squandered the resources it managed by fighting with each other over how to screw the American public by selling them back what was rightfully theirs in the first place.
Please More Deregulation, I want to take it up the ass even harder 30 years from now!
Don't make the mistake of believing that the USA is all about what's Just, Good, and Right. It's not. It just claims to be.
You are correct, but the USA actions are ultimately held accountable by its people. Unlike in many other parts of the world, the representative democracy we have here does require accountability for wrong doing.
If the polititicans and warmongerers of America realize that their decisions have to be "justified" to the American soccer-mom, then thats one step closer to having them act in a more humane manner. They may even pick up some ethics along the way.
They address the human element. Everyone can relate to the visual of some giant cable snapping at one end and it falling on you. Fear is a reality and a human constant. If our ancestors weren't the most cautious of our species we probably wouldn't be here today.
sounds like a great way to take the energy out of apporaching hurricanes, tornados, tsunami, etc.
And if we can harness that electricity to create hydrogen fuel we might even have an endless planet supplied clean renewable energy source. Bye Bye Bush's oil industry.
hopefully you don't mean attached to the moon, mars, etc. That would probably be poor planning to have a fixed point on earth and a fixed point on another celestial object...
well, as an American I'd be happy for the Chinese. Chances are very good that they'd develop even more new science that will teach us about our planet. Funding for Science and Exploration == good, it doesn't matter who's doing the funding and exploration. Slowly, mankind will educate itself into Utopia.
while my karma is bad enough, I venture to worsen it by replying.
How so many people in our country claim that the republicans are the racist bunch is beyond me.
There is a historical precedence to this. (Civil Rights, Segregation, Anti-Immigrant)
Conservative by its definition means keeping the status quo. Keeping the Rich White Christian Men in power. As a white man of many generations in America I've almost been tempted to vote Republican many times to maintain my status when
I felt threatened. But the arguements of the Republican party against common sense in the fields of Gay and Lesbian Rights, Religious Freedoms, Civl Liberties, Women's Right to Work, National Health Care for Everyone, anti-Union, anti-Choice of Abortion, and many more keep me
voting democrat time and time again. And while the current administration in America has too many faults for me to accurately characterize, I don't think I could do the arguement justice. I'll leave that up to the people that will replace them.
Suffice it to say, the stated views of the Republican party have always been against the
common good.
Semi trucks do more damage to the roads than automobiles do. Most potholes and cracks are
formed from the weight of large trucks.
For me, it makes more sense to charge trucks
higher tolls and taxes if they damage the
infrastructure more. I happen to think that
more goods should be moved by train and thus
the taxes/tolls on trucks should be higher to
encourage a reduction in semi trucks. But
the Teamster's union is very strong in America.
In addition, the bacterium is rugged and stable, able to grow at temperatures ranging from four to 30 C (39.2 to 86 F), with 25 C (77 F) the optimum.
human body is roughly 98F. They'd die. Of course the great thing about bacteria is that they could be "evolved" to handle other temperatures, so your idea may not be entirely shot to hell.
The other issue with having it in the body is the propensity of evolution to create mutations. So if the body's sugar could get in, there is a chance that a bacteria could get out or "evolve" into a form that finds away around its jail. Very Tricky engineering.
well...its not like they descended from a white Adam and Eve...in which case they'd have to be substandard humans...
actually, its to blow off the tiny black specs of dirt that the child could actually see...sorry but thanks for playing.
Yes. Now go jump off a cliff.
case of a tiny bit of education being dangerous....

these moderators need a serious dose of negative metamoderation. I mean WTF.
Can you guarantee that the money for the monitor will go to fund Al'Quaeda and not Faatah (sp?).
The deal wont go through until after we've ousted him, so no big worries there.
Mr. Rogers would never have been caught dead saying "Ya". You, thank you very much.

reminds me of the old saying:
You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink.
Out of curiosity where do you go every morning for 5 minutes of bug checking?

bait. Might actually be a good thing to draw all of the people who want to do us "harm" to one location. Hmmm. Maybe that's what we're doing in Iraq.
We'll just build a secret second cable at the, hmmm, umm, North Pole! No one will notice...

The only compromise THAT YOU KNOW ABOUT
I'm not saying that you've been compromised, just pointing out that its possible that you were and didn't know it.
I think we should let them win....

The article says: "A cup of sugar contains enough power to light a 60-watt light bulb for about 17 hours."
