  1. Protectionist on Outsourcing As A Source Of U.S. Jobs · · Score: 1

I wish someone would show concern for the Americans who will become impoverished again if protectionist policies are instituted, all out of blantant ignorance.

Look at the amount of stuff the US imports, clothes, cars, oil. If the US starts putting up trade barriers the US consumer will get screwed. That would be terribly detrimental to the US economy as a whole.

When someone has to buy a $50 shirt from a US source instead of a $10 shirt from an offshore source, that is a huge drop in purchasing power.

  2. Good example on Outsourcing As A Source Of U.S. Jobs · · Score: 1

Excellent example, In the US it is quite interesting.

Car manufacturing, components are going offshore.
Some 'overhead' operations are going offshore.

Much design work stays onshore, the Japanese companies are building design studios.
Japanese companies are building and expanding North American production.

Sure making cheap parts is moving, and they are trying to move more complex technical parts.
But as the industry grows, so do some of the other jobs. And for what it's worth, an Automotive assembly plant is one hell of a cool machine. (thousands of cars/workers/robots all acting and moving together)

Their only competative advantage is accurate results, they must keep it.

I disagree, few people come even close to properly maintaining their vehicle.
Go look at a 4-5yr old big flashy SUV, the tires are probaly flat/bald or not rotated (back/front wear).
Blenders are problematic? The good ones have only a few buttons (on/off/ice). There are no issues, you put stuff in, turn on, wash it occasionally, a very nice appliance.

They should both work without knowledge of how they work, have clearly defined maintenance routines that will keep them in good condition, and the dealer network should provide adequate skilled staff who will perform normal maintenence and other repairs for a reasonable, defined standard cost.

Computers are treated like cars, people don't maintain them. Tires are always flat and bald, they don't change their oil, or check the other fluids. Few know how they actually work, people complain about all the garages ripping them off, even though that have little or no idea what is actually going on.

If everyone does a bit of fill it up and turn it off, you can all get hot water with even less waiting.
Cordless kettles are even easier to handle.
Microwave heats up the container, kettle lets my mug stay somewhat warm.

Myself I drank way too much, I tried to cut down, didn't work.

Artificially raises the cost of living, lowers the global competativeness, and lowers the standard of living for the country. (Longer term effects, short term seems better)

The other thing is such a variable tax rate would turn into a terrible paperwork mess. You would have legal fights from a long time, wouldn't end up working. And you'd still end up with all the downfalls of protectionism.

Eastern (Japan), get a lot of information, make a good well documented decision. Pointing out mistakes means you think that their work in making the decision is wrong, likely you haven't done the same investigation.
