Personal privacy isn't much of a problem with such broad statistics. There is no personal private information that is traceable to you.
Now if it was possibly traceable, or gave a particular impression. (ie 90% of the 10 men in this room masturbate to anime porn) That could be a personal information, but when it is sufficiently vague as to who the data relates to it is a non issue.
It isn't that this data should be unknown, it is that your data should not be known as yours.
Then it is simply a bad law. The accused Mafia/Small time drug dealer should both be proven to commit the illegal act to whatever level required by law.
If a mere accusation is enough, then it should be for all crimes. If substantial proof is required, then it should be required for all crimes.
There shouldn't be two classes of crime, those we have to prove, and those we can just guess at.
So Minsky has an opinion, he expresses it, he provides data, calculations and evidence to support it.
People just accept it, and progress is delayed.
Why is it his fault that there are so many followers? If anything is to be blamed is that these researchers just blindly follow whatever he's saying rather then take a good critical look at what is going on.
If his math and theory "proved" that an area of AI was a dead end, and it wasn't, his math/theory was wrong. It is a sad state when nobody dare challenge the status quo.
anti-abortion protesters I think some (a minority) are terribly dangerous (the shooters for instance)
I also think it is wrong for anyone to harrass someone for a legal medical procedure.
streetwalkers I assume you mean prostitutes, if it is illegal in your area, someone should enforce the law.
small-time dug dealers Are no different then big time dealers who haven't made it yet. Drugs are illegal, some are dangerous, get rid of the dealers. BTW I think many currently illegal drugs should be legalized.
You should be allowed to sue for anything. Who should judge what is worthy? A judge of course, nobody else should be allowed to make the decision if the case should proceed.
This doesn't look evil. If you post on IRC, or a group forum of some kind. They want to modify it. This is like creating an IRC log, or quoting a message, or creating an archive. Or even just throw their adds on your webpage. All this could be considered commercial derivative works. They want it clear they are allowed to do this.
It does not include private communications, ie email. Anything publicly posted can be stolen by anyone, which is why certain groups want solid DRM protection.
I think skilled trades are excellent careers, just not for me.
The jobs aren't always steady. It is physical work, crawling around and stuff takes a toll. Wiring a house isn't just 15 mins and a $3k bill, there is a lot too it.
I don't think education is "the key to success". But I'd still rather have my desk job with the stress and student loans and all.
For example when you have a 5 point essay question, don't write a book. Write a paragraph, with 5 points in it. If the teacher is a biggie for structure, add an intro and summary sentence. Make sure you spell it mostly right, and write neatly. Also don't make run on sentences. When you do projects, make them the appropriate size for the mark value and your position. Then make sure it is done well. Target the requirements.
If the teacher/prof/TA wants a 10 page report, doing a good 10 page report will get you a higher mark then an even better 20 page report.
Some people think that accessing their open web server unauthorized access. This is not reasonable.
I think anything not clearly identified as private should be authorized on a public network.
If I walk to someones front door who has no signs informing me this is unacceptable, and ring the doorbell I do not think I'm tresspassing. Same for a computer.
Soldiers aren't worth as much.

If you die, in service, your family might get enough for a funeral. If you happen to be in an office building that is the target of a high profile attack (Sept 11) your family will get millions.
Then fork it. This is why forks can be a good thing.
Do it yourself isn't wrong, it is the point of open source. With closed source you have to take what the "maintainer" decides. With open source you can take what they give you, or change it. You have choice, you have the power.
With open source you are only as screwed as you let yourself be.
Why do companies do this? It is worth their while to do so.
If my bank had annoying popups, I would write and complain. You can use browsers that disable this.
Like spam, if people refused to buy services from companies that use these techniques, they would stop. But they DO work, and as long as they work, they will do this.
So when a spammer fires a few hundred or thousand emails to an ISP, they will sit on the mailserver waiting for him to respond. Since the from address is faked, that same ISP will launch an acknowledgement flood against a third user. Excellent.
I just see so many tricky things that someone somewhere will screw up.
The real reason stuff doesn't interoperate is the people that want it to, didn't do so.
If I want my project to interoperate, I will incorporate that feature. If I don't care, I won't.
If someone else wants it to do something else THEY have to add that feature. Why should I spend my time working on features for you?
This is free software, the interoperability people could make it work, but they don't put the effort behind it, so it doesn't happen. If it isn't worth their time, money and effort, why should it be worth mine?
Our goal is to do all the heavy lifting for them for a fair price and build a profitable business. If we can't offer value beyone what they can get from apt-get then they shouldn't give us any money.
Wow a one line business plan, and a corresponding one line risk. If more companies did this, maybe the dot-com crash wouldn't be a problem.
We should do something useful that people will pay for. If we don't do it better then cheaper alternatives we won't make it.
If my ??? agent comes across a real "great deal" he should call me and tell me about it. Particularly if I opted in, this telemarketing should be permitted.
Unsolicited, or great deals that aren't bother me.
I have saved money from offers from existing business contacts.
Yes he is likely a legit business owner. But he did at least 2 things wrong.
#1 He is calling people in the middle of the night, this is not acceptable.
#2 He didn't identify himself when he called, this is also a violation.
Both of these are wrong, you take away #1, and you're left with #2, which at the very least meant that he didn't properly look into what he was doing.
Also I hate telemarketers, and door to door soliciters, I just tell them no I won't support their cause because I hate people calling/coming to my door.
I thought I mailed it to a center somewhere.
But my form was VERY basic.

I don't see a better solution.
$250k life insurance should only be $30-50/mo or so for a healthy person in their 20's.
If your family needs $250k, you should have insurance, it is quite cheap.
Can you make a transmission tower on a hill or something?
I'll know I've done my job if my kid grows up to be happy with what they do in life.
The only right answer is the job you enjoy.

Maybe spammers will just submit "verfication" messages instead of actual messages.

If a company can find a way to profitably add true value, the business will likely continue in some form.
If the company generates fluff (without profit) it won't exist and likely shouldn't.
There are many people gainfully employed creating valuable products, and profit for their companies. The industry doesn't matter.

That's an interesting thought.
Two excellent computer companies in opposite markets.
Apple has the user end, Sun has the server end. They both make top notch quality, and have excellent reputations for good reliable products.
That idea could be really good, or really bad.
Who knows.
