I doubt its largely "just" symbolic. Remember, her majesty has a weekly meeting with the prime minister, and from all accounts, this is hardly a cup of tea, as many people think. Its VERY businesslike, and although we will never find out what she exactly says to the prime minister, it is known she has spoken very strongly against some, regarding her concerns.

The best part is, she doesnt act as a dictator, she properly follows rules and procedures which got her into hot water too (just after Diana's death, a period which I personally think she handled well, but the media hyped a hysteria beyond anything)

She is far more of a credit to this country than some of our governments. For example during 9/11, she quickly requested that the american anthem be played during the Changing of the Guard a few days later. Sounds simple? Not quite, firstly its totally unprecedented. And the logistics in training and inviting people, considering she herself was not in London during the time. It was a powerful and tear jerking event to show solidarity with America, and was repeated later after the madrid bombing, with the spanish anthem.

Compare that to our shameful government who's PR people decided to use 9/11 to announce some "bad government reports" in the hope that with the nation's mind being occupied with the events in New York that these news would not be noticed. That failed, and they got blasted for that.

My T-Mobile UK data plan DOES allow tethering. Its called Mobile Broadband Plus, and indeed does allow you to use a phone as a modem (and I have used it on my N95). Hmm, so does this mean I cant do tethering on my G1? Its a bit unfair I am being held to the terms of some T-Mobile contracts, especially ones not in my own country.

If in context ID means that. If we were to pursue that intelligent design is just a "force" that influences evolution, as opposed to Selection of the fittest, or chaotic evolution.

However, in the above, ID is a form of which Evolution "happens" or rather a proposed mechanism of evolution. Its not against evolution as such.

So you can say instead ID vs Darwinism (Survival of the fittest) vs Chaos thoery vs any other mechanism.

AS you said though, Creation vs Evolution is a valid comparision, and is EXACTLY what the good Dr is trying to do. Creation does not agree with evolution.

Even good old "police state Britain" would not ask many questions.

I recently got married to a foreign lady, and when applying for her Visa for the UK, I found that although the questions were thorough, they were reasonable, and didn't ask anything undue.

Further more, on the visa itself, it specifically doesn't include my first name on her visa stamp (only my initial) and one of the reasons for not including the full name is that in the case of same sex marriages, they do not want the visa to imply that the marriage is such. For example if you are Susan Smith, and your "spouse" is Teresa Smith.

Since showing the visa is required for employment, and other Identify, as well as the fact it may be observed on entry to a third country, where same sex marriages are a prisonable offense.

But seriously, as the parent above said, those questions are illegal in the UK.

Even more of an issue is the fact that his suggestion that JS delivered from the site, should be able to be replaced by the user throws up even more of a can of worms.

    a) if the site was to change its API, and you do not check it, it may cause your user create script to fail. Worse, it may cause some serious damage too (this is not like changing CSS ala GreaseMonkey, where arguably the danger is minimised by only changing style, and not functionality).

    b) having such a feature in a browser, leaves another possible exploit for scamware artists to target "Joe 6 pack" by sneaking a javascript to their browser that does, for example, send their CC/username details to another server, or something.

Currently Browsers do not allow a local script to override a remote delivered script (it is arguable that extensions may exist to allow it, but at least the extensions are separate code that needs to be installed/etc). Allowing browsers to programatically override external scripts as part of its core feature set is dangerous.

Add to that the built in Folding@home client, PlayTV DVB DVR system, Web Browsing (with YouTube) and a few other tricks meant that the PS3 was being used for more than just playing games, and that non game use is increasing.

It's interesting that the G1 (which I have) and the iPhone are the only "smartphones" which such crippled bluetooth stacks.

Lack of A2DP was shortsighted (admittedly cupcake firmware for the Android rectified the A2DP issue for android handsets, but its still lacking compared to other phones)

My Nokia N95 did a lot better in terms of Bluetooth.

In fact, one of the best Bluetooth implementations I have seen was on a SonyEricsson phone, which was not even a smartphone, the K800i.

    It has
    - OBEX (send files/contacts/calendars to other devices)

    - OBEX FTP,

    - A2DP,

    - HCI (Aka bluetooth remote control built in, use it to control media player, and even a mouse pointer)

    - HDCP (print to a bluetooth equiped printer)

    - Blutetooth PAN gateway (a Network Access point via bluetooth, allows one or more computers to wirelessly tether the internet connection on the phone.) This is unique as I have not seen any other phone implement this, and implement this well. IT also exposes a USB based Ethernet network too, for wired access. No need to remember APNs, or do a dial up on the computer using either of these two methods.

    - Bluetooth modem the "alternative" common method of accessing the net/modem/fax wirelessly

    - BlueTooth SIM- A funky way of allowing another mobile device (such as a car phone) to use the SIM card on your handset to log in to the network. So you can have a car phone, with the full radio stack, and everything, but keep the SIM in the phone (this will cause your car phone to handle all calls, instead of the mobile handset)

    - A2DP implemented WELL (For example, I had a iPaq as a music device, and i was able to connect this and the ipaq to the BT headphones, and when a call came through it woudl take over the headset using the headset profile, then properly release it afterwards, if the ipaq was NOT paired, then it would also use the A2DP to have a single device connection).

    - Bluetooth serial port.

It even had an option to allow more than one device to connect at the same time (at the expense of greater battery usage). With this option, I was able to have my Moto A2DP headset, iPaq, and K800 connected to each other. with music going from ipaq to headset. Calls from k800 to Headset, and internet from k800 to ipaq. It worked pretty well.

Not bad for a non-smartphone. I really miss that trio now, with my "next generation devices".
