Its by the Daily Mail, a newspaper which we in the UK call the Daily Wail, and they are known for their extreme "angles" on anything. Their "reporting" and slants can even make Mother Teresa appear as a devil.
And is a person going to spend hundreds of dollars on a "hrydaulic splitter" for the odd occasion to split wood for his/her home, or just get by with a cheaper axe?
Sure the machine may be quicker, but practically does it make any real difference?
Spend the money saved enjoying the log fire instead......
I agree with what you have said. Once my wife lost her phone, and someone called the contact "home" to tell us they found it. I gave a nice little "finders fee" as a thank you, which the guy tried to refuse, but I told him to use it to take his missus out for a dinner on my behalf.
So, yes, if i do find some ones phone I would do the same thing.
Sir, you are a true gentleman, like the person who found my wife's phone.
Android as a "fast" boot option to use on occasion instead of waiting to boot Ubuntu/Windows/OS-X (via bootcamp) would be an interesting prospect for me.
And this is why they are going to tank in the UK. Here we have already have Lovefilm, which was recently bought by Amazon UK, and is now an amazon subsidiary. Lovefilm already has a combined disc by post and streaming service. It is already usable on the iPad iPhone ps3 Xbox, and many tvs sold here already have support for Lovefilm.
And unlike netflix, Lovefilm have recently increased the number of discs you can have each month at no extra cost.
Competition is primarily blockbusters, who are doing great on there own. I fail to see how Netflix can make it.
Whats worse, is that for all of Apples blustering that Samsung copied the iphone, do a search for the Samsung f700. (Oblig wikipedia entry, no pictures: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samsung_SGH-F700) it was a phone by Samsung, sold by Vodafone in February 2007 (before the iPhone). And apart from the "sliding keypad", when closed looks REMARKABLY like an iphone in style yet predates the iPhone. More importantly, the Galaxy s, and the later S2 follow on from that design.
In all the cases you mentioned, the infringement was a product that was the same or related to the trademark.
In this case, Apple [Computer] is a computer store. Its name (apple) does NOT have a clear relationship with its product (computers/phones/music players).
The store "Appleaday" is a Health food based Restaurant, the name comes from the very old saying, "An apple a day keeps the doctor away", a health oriented saying. When I first heard the name, before I read that its a resteraunt, i immediately associated its name with something to do with health and well being, thanks to that saying.
There is NO valid case of infirngement here. It is, pardon the pun, apples and oranges.
This is like Microsoft sueing "Anglian Windows" (a double glazing window company here in the UK)
I agree with all you are saying:) In fact that's what I was pointing that the grid itself cannot provide that much charging power over a conventional 13amp wire (what we use in the UK) and even a 60amp wire (approx 6 to 7 KW) is going to still take a long time to charge.
It is "possible" to get 20 to 50 KWH in six euros, let me explain.
Here in the UK, we dont have standing (compulsory) charges, instead they charge the first few KWH at a higher rate than the normal rate. so for example, the first 3 KWH is 25p, then 7 - 9p thereafter. so 20 kwh over a day will cost £3.78 = just over 4 euros. 50 kwh is £4.98 = just under 6 euros. If you are on a nighttime tarrif (like me) then the cost is 4p per KWH with no higher rate charge, if done overnight. therefore we could squeeze 125 KWH for £5 = about 6Euros.
The power company will probably have a word with you if you do that though!
Dont get me wrong, this is an amazing accomplishment. But six euros of electricity seems something like 20 - 50 KW of power. I wonder how LONG it will take to charge!!!!!!!
Not to mention the battery to hold that...
Not to mention the charging equipment, and power requirements to be able to "fast" charge it.
Windows XP supported Soundblaster and MIDI emulation built into its VDMs. IT also had VDM support for ModeX, used by many DOS games. 2k didn't.
As for windows DirectX games, XP had a newer DirectX system for newer games, and had a slightly faster path to help older DX games perform slightly better under XP.
Finally XP was made to be "simpler" for the home user (the Welcome Screen, instead of a login box, all users as admin by default, etc)
Wrong, clarkson does not hate electric, he actually likes the idea of them. He has pointed out this in many places, just google it.
His problem is: The batteries are currently bulky yet have poor range.(he has concerns on the safety of Li.ion in huge sizes in a car) And... It takes too long to charge
So short range with ages to charge means its not practical for many uses, except in town for short journeys.
This is also why he likes hydrogen fuel cell, because it's still electric, but the "capacity" is greater, and filling up is quicker, making it more practical.
And that's what a lot of people like about them. They feel more "confident" buying from the same retailer via amazon marketplace, than direct from the retailer, as they feel that they are more likely to be refunded if the retailer goes bust, etc.
Its already been said before, but Sony Ericsson is not Sony:)
SE is a joint venture of 50% sony, and 50% ericsson, headquartered in London. Their culture is very different to Sony, and many would say, still very much "ericsson"
True, but it does highlight a difference between the two platforms which could in future skew the results. Apple has only one app store. Android has "Android Market", and "Amazon Market", and in addition FDroid (for open source), plus many smaller ones (including dodgy ones), plus the ability to install applications directly via the apk files.
Nfs, and DNLA are totally different and unrelated things. No wonder you are finding DNLA "flakey" on the blue ray/tv if you are just exposing nfs shares.
Try reading up and understanding what it takes to use DNLA, then you may have success.
I have DNLA working just fine at home. A Western Digital MyBook World Edition, which does DNLA out of the box. All music/pictures/movies store on the box is acessible by ALL devices, including my sammy TV, PS3, DVD player, netbook, laptop, computer, Andriod phone, Nokia N95. The only devices that dont play ball are Apple ones, but thats apple for you, they dont do DNLA.
In addition, I can sit on my pc, right click a movie, and select "play on TV", voila, the item is playing on the TV.
Need to correct you about Android. Having been involved with Android for a very long time (well before it was actually released, and even before the iPhone was released or even announced).
In those very early days, the idea was to have a minimal approach (with only one or two buttons). It was in fact the hardware manufacturers who insisted on having more buttons. Multi Touch was envisioned as part of the system, but then hurridly disabled once the iphone came out, as Eric Schmid was at the time on Apple's board, and they didnt want to upset Apple.
There was an app store concept too.
Apple just released the damn thing first (credit to them).
The difference is that Cold Fusion is still tecnology very much in development. However, self driving cars ARE possible with exisiting technology. The hardest part is modifying the infrustructure to assist.
You are right, but there is a rule that applies even IF you are using a handsfree in the UK.
Our current law banning the use of a handheld device whilst "in control of a car" is relatively recent (since about 2004 I think). It makes it an offence to drive whilst holding or operating a handheld device, irregardless of how well you are driving.
But the law of Driving without due care and attention still applies if one is driving like an idiot. Having a hands free is not going to help you, and in fact can work against you if it is prooven that you were on a call whilst you were driving without due care and attention.
Agreed, Moto has always made solid hardware that were built like the proverbial poo house, but their software did suck buckets, and always have. Slow, Kludgy, etc
They bought UIQ from Symbian/SonyEricsson and mess that up to. When they went to Android, I remember saying how Motorola's Software engineers know how to "suck" on a cross platform manner. And i guess in a lot of ways I was right (motoblur).
I fully agree with you...... and I myslef DO use firefox more than chrome..... Partly because I was a Mozilla volunteer back in the day.
BUT.. lets look at the bigger picture....
Isnt it great that today we have a CHOICE between great broswers (and even IE is not as sucky any more)? Today we can choose a browser based on OUR personal requirements, rather than half assed support by one or two browsers? Where we no longer have to LIVE with "this site is best on x?"
I joined Mozilla because of the lack of choice. I wanted an even playing field with a lot of different browsers, that largely display web pages based on standards. The choice is then based on pure user preference.
Back in 1998, the choice was just IE, or Netscape 4. That was like choosing betweeen death by electricution, or gas chamber!
In my experience, SSDs do increase overall performance, and not just boot up. My computer has a 120GB SSD, and a 1TB HDD. by installing Windows and keySoftware on the SSD, and placing the documents and settings, swap and less used programs/games on the HDD does give a pretty good boost for the common applications. It also significantly boosts the applications on the HDD, as there is less thrashing due to core DLLs/Libraries being loaded seperate from the HDD.
Overall I get a 7 second boot time and fast perfromance whilst running for all applications stored on the SSD. In addition even applications stored on the HDD is typically twice as fast at startup and running than if all was stored on a single HDD.
So to say that SSDs give no impact for performance is worng.
However............
This setup does require me as an operator to know what i am doing, and know where to install applications. This is not usefull in a WORK environment, or a home environment where the typical user is not so well understanding abotu performance.
Another thing crippliing the work environment is the fact that AV software typically run in paranoid mode, where they do full hurestics scanning of most files on being open. They dont use checksums to avoid checking previously scanned files that have not changed, which would help performance.
So you are right that "typically" it may not give a greater performance.

And how much time do YOU as a parent actually spend with your children? How often do you bond with them? Are they really "Happy"?
I agree with what you have said. Once my wife lost her phone, and someone called the contact "home" to tell us they found it. I gave a nice little "finders fee" as a thank you, which the guy tried to refuse, but I told him to use it to take his missus out for a dinner on my behalf.

This is the Jaguar X-Type Diesel, which if I am right was until 2008, always manual, and has a clutch. (I know, because I had one of those)
