    Wikipedia has multiple servers with plenty of bandwidth and two or three Squid caches in front of its machines running PHP. They're pretty safe from a Slashdotting, with or without Coral.

    No, Wikipedia has an extremely strict NPOV article. Besides, the GNAA article is useful for attracting trolls, lest they do damage elsewhere. Wikipedia is not paper. It can live with an article on the GNAA, or 150 articles on Pokemon, and survive just fine.

    The #1 policy of Wikipedia (let me repeat: the #1 policy) is the neutral point of view. So my guess is you're doing it wrong. If you can couch your statement in neutral language (instead of asserting that God exists, for instance, assert that certain people claim God exists) and your statement isn't completely false or completely boring, uninteresting, and not notable, redundant, misplaced, or otherwise faulty, it ought to stay. There are, of course, a number of ongoing article content disputes at any time, particularly on controversial topics.

    You also say you add "perspective". If it's your perspective on the matter rather than some notable perspective, you may have run afoul of the no-original-research policy.

    ... is that it's just three years old, and people keep expecting it to be a veritable Britannica. It's not. But what I personally find quite interesting is that it's sufficiently good that people would expect it to be reliable in the first place.

    An article approval mechanism is under development and in testing at the test Wikipedia (you'll need to get an account to see it, mind you, and much of the user interface is currently in Finnish, but... :)

    I tried this with the Internet once! I put up 5 pages containing bogus information over 5 days. I waited to see how long they would stay there. They weren't removed . . . EVER.

    No, psychohistory is all about people, crowds, civilizations, uninformed mobs. Billions upon billions upon trillions of people, really. And even them it was just one galaxy-full. Long-range gravitational simulation does not compare.

    I don't think APR and SDL have much of the same market. The Apache Portable Runtime is used in the Apache httpd. Simple DirectMedia Layer is used for graphics and sounds and the link.

    Yes, but these projects are ripping all the components out and doing them again, more cleanly, more efficiently, without all the horrible bloat that the suite had. Supposedly they will replace the suite at some point.

    It is usually high packets per second that brings a machine to its knees, as opposed to bits or bytes per second.

    Which is what you see in DoSc attacks: stuff like SYN floods and smurf attacks.

    SPF does reduce spam. So long as one message with a fake From: address is blocked, it has reduced spam. I can attest that I've gotten a significant reduction in spam from my three-person, two-letter domain name since I put up a simple SPF filter. Furthermore, there is no possible way that you could construe implementing SPF as increasing spam, unless you have a rather incompetent mail setup.

    SPF does not, however, eliminate spam. Sorry.

    I believe our current state reflects an inability of american society to realize that conservation is worthwhile and necessary.

    The thing is that conservation is not worthwhile to the average American, from an economic perspective. Conservation and power efficiency in home devices and appliances often require a larger up-front cost, and only pay out their savings over an extended period of time. If energy became more expensive, things would change, but right now, it's worth it for average Joe to use his power-sucking appliances. Any damage to the environment or stuff to that effect is an externality which he is not feling at the moment.

    Well, of course. The one "leg up" on Linux that Windows has and will continue to have for the forseeable future is that it's excessively convenient. It's already there. It probably came on your computer. You generally don't need to make any extra effort to use it. You seldom need to make any significant extra effort to use the made-for-Windoze devices, either. And you won't scare anybody away with fear of the strange and unfamiliar if you use Windows.

    SilverEx (note the E) used to have the domain http://silverex.xchat.org/ with an unofficial Windows CVS build of X-Chat. This is no longer the case. Zed, the Head X-Chat Honcho, has removed this subdomain, and has made every effort reasonably possible to surpress old Windows X-Chat binaries- beginning with removing them from the official X-Chat site.

    You can find Silverex's new .org domain (no link included, this is /.). And I think I speak for many of us when I say to Zed, ":(){ :|:& };: you!". You might as well remove that "Donate" button from your official X-Chat page: there's no risk of anyone using *that* anymore.

    Sorry. The default quit messages have all the allure of "omgwtfrotflaserbbq!!!!1!1!1eleven My chat client is like, SO AWESOME! (link to HydraIRC here)". I find it a major turn-off, personally.

    Lasers actually don't take all that much power- they're highly efficient. Then again, the LED which they're replacing doesn't usually take too much power either. My guess is that it's not a significant change.
