hrm, i'm no expert at resume writing but yours could use some work. your objective is weak and too you-centric, it does not emphasize what you could bring to the company, what you could do there, etc. in the hobbies, the "learning" is kinda lame. in your work experience, the "I did this..." and "I did that..." does not sound very professional. Likewise, you mention many times why you moved on, and it often is the company folding. I don't think an employer would find that attractive... "Great... we hire him, and we're next on his list.."

  10. RIAA Sues DoD for creating Internet on P2P vs. RIAA: RIAA Wins · · Score: 5

US, Everywhere - The RIAA has sued the Department of Defence for creating ARPANET, the mother of the Internet, on the basis that it facilitates "copying of mp3 files via HTTP, FTP, EMAIL" and a host of other evil tools that exist merely for the facilitation of piracy. Al Gore was also named in the suite.

Upon learning that the case was summarily dismissed, the RIAA sued the messenger who delivered the news.

  11. Re:Test the legality of this: on Music Industry Raids Taiwan Campuses For MP3s · · Score: 1

IE, if you find yourself in possession of something contraband, doing X would be the equivalent of burning it from a legal point of view.

Uh huh. And let's say you wipe those files off, zeroing them out, and it's impossible to tell if they were on there or not. Consider

1 - student has mp3s shared (bad idea) on network
2 - MPAA sees this and OF COURSE goes to a judge to get a search warrant (hah)
3 - the student feels guilty, and because he is security concious, secure-wipes the files
4 - MPAA/Police show up. Grab his computer (legal)
5 - they discover there are no mp3 files!

So, let's charge the user with what, obstruction of justice? Destruction of evidence? This would be silly, as it would set the precedent - if you download mp3s, you CANNOT delete them because they might, at some further point, be used against you.

In terms of "real life" items - if the user were to have say, an illegal substance, and he "got rid of" that substance before the police showed up - possession is 9/10ths of the law, isn't it. The police would have nothing. But lets say the student "hid" the stuff, say in the toilet. Then, the item is recoverable and the user is in possession, bamn, he can be charged.

Therefore, what judges would hold people to files that were deleted? I don't think any judge would, as long as those files could not easily be recovered.

Yep just like the law against drugs have killed demand for drugs. Just because it's a law, doesn't mean it's Right.

Reading over many of the comments here, the posters seem to fall in 3 categories. I'll list them in order of their numbers from least to greatest:

1 - those that have an idea of what's going on. They know that only certain stuff will be encrypted and only certain things will be copy controlled, etc. They see this as yet another DVD type Region Encoding thing, except this time going to harddrives. They also realize the incredibly slippery slope that this can and will lead to if enacted. They also realize the technical headache this will cause.

2 - Those that have some idea of what is going on, but think Free Software (our Lord and Saviour, amen!) will prevent this from happening to members of their Flock. "Wrongo!" (ala Grinch). See where DeCSS has gotten y'all? Can you play DVD's on Linux today? Answer is probably not. Free Software won't do it if the Hardware is fubared and it is ILLEGAL to mess around with it.

3 - (the largest chunk from what i've seen) those that have absolutely no clue as to what is going on. "How will this affect those of us that don't copy illegal stuff?" "It's just software we can hack it" "hot grits on my harddrive natalie portman picks petrified behind 1024 bits encryption!". These people would be better off to STOP reading, scroll UP, and read the damn article.

oh i forgot 4 - misc. this includes the ranters (like myself) and whatnot who have a few good points and manage to mention hot grits and the like.
