Let me clarify that for you, Free speech is not just an american thing. It is infact one of the corner stones of Liberty, when you give it up you give up a lot more.
Let me quote John Stuart Mill (British) since you think Liberty is a American thing...
"The object of this Essay is to assert one very simple principle, as entitled to govern absolutely the dealings of society with the individual in the way of compulsion and control, whether the means used be physical force in the form of legal penalties, or the moral coercion of public opinion. That principle is, that the sole end for which mankind are warranted, individually or collectively, in interfering with the liberty of action of any of their number, is self-protection. That the only purpose for which power can be rightfully exercised over any member of a civilized community, against his will, is to prevent harm to others. His own good, either physical or moral, is not sufficient warrant. He cannot rightfully be compelled to do or forbear because it will be better for him to do so, because it will make him happier, because, in the opinion of others, to do so would be wise, or even right... The only part of the conduct of anyone, for which he is amenable to society, is that which concerns others. In the part which merely concerns himself, his independence is, of right, absolute. Over himself, over his own body and mind, the individual is sovereign."
No Microsoft is not pushing Sliverlight and WPF here. OR saying scripting does not need to be extended. They are saying there needs something better than javascript and maybe push DLR, IronRuby, IronPhython, and any other languages you can bind to something like DLR.
If brenden is saying MS does not want anything new, he is just being a liar. I have read all their blog posts, and you might want to as well.
Frankly anyone that thinks the present javascript is worthwhile keeping just has not programmed enough in it. It is not the language itself, but the differing implementations, APIs and features suck.
So what we have here is that ECMAScript/JS is a waste of time improving without causing too much trouble for developers.
The best bet is to move to a language neutral dynamic runtime. It is does not have to be DLR, or CLR or JVM. But we need a better runtime, and API. And the sooner i can forget about javascript and be able to code in a better framework the happier my job will be.
Divide and Rule. It is a good stategy, and some open source people really do fall for it. GPL3 from a corporate perspective is not a very positive thing. So i would think that community is already showing lots of divide, although that could just be because there are lots more people in it now. $%*@)%#$.... I have not idea what happened there, but i must have missed the a close tag.... Divide and Rule.
dont you know that if someone charges for something, it means it is better. The more expensive the product the better its quality automatically gets. that is why free software sucks compared to apple or ms software, dont you read the research they release./sarcasm
Sure I know it is "haha" since Microsoft in the recieving end, but take the context put linux and gpl on one end, and you will realize that a court could rule that since no one is placed in a financial disadvantage people can abuse the gpl. When Microsoft gets screwed over by something it is just a matter of time before someone applies to opensource stuff.
From what I had read, the teacher was warned once, and he still continued using pirated software. Frankly he did break the law, he deserves a punishment, maybe not prison, but atleast slap on the wrist. People should be encouraged to follow licenses be in Sony's music license, microsoft's eula, or FSF's gpl.
Actually there are very few reviews putting down the zune hardware. In fact most of them are positive, and most like the interface. Personally i think it has a better interface than the ipod. The problems with the zune is mostly due to people not liking 3x3 limit to sharing, and zune software lack of features and installation problems.
1. Linux servers do not have a higher marketshare than windows servers, check your facts. 2. Servers be linux or windows, typically have people that are more computer literate, hence are alrady better protected, monitored, and locked away. 3. millions of unmonitored desktops, with careless users, with broadband connections will always be a better target.
please, this has nothing to do with closed systems and open systems. This has more to do with people wanting compromised machines to do their bidding, be it spam, ddos attacks, get personal info etc. These people obviously make a lot of money, so obviously they are willing to pony up thousands of dollars for a flaw that might give them access to hack millions of computers.
If Linux/bsd/osx were at 90% market share, I am sure these &#@%$! will still be selling/buying vulnerabilities at these prices. (unless ofcourse it is harder to hack them, then prices would higher)
Well you can call him what you want, but the law is not exactly easy to understand (well when is it). When I was a student (on visa), I always wondered if it was legal to sell something on ebay, because technically if I made a profit on it, then it could be considered as work. Or what if you buy stock in the stock market and made money on it? There are lot of scenarios esp online where it is not very clear. Of course it is always better to err on the side of caution.
I cannot sync gcal to my blackberry, I cannot access it in any form through my mobile. It clearly is not standards based (xmlhttprequest), so it does not work in any browser, it works in IE, newer firefox releases, and I think now safari(?) as well.
Considering I need to buy into the whole google calendar, with gtalk to get reminders, it just is not worthwhile compared to a real PIM manager aka Outlook or Evolution.
SFU: Let devs, systems admins port applications SFU: For talking to *nix clients using nfs, ldap and interact with AD
RTF Format: As an open spec that predates everything else in the opensource world.Net Runtime as EMCA standard Open XML as EMCA standard Wix install set: For open software to create installers for windows
IBuySpy Portal(Dotnetnuke is based on)
It is easy to blame when you look at only one point of view
Sure MS should be releasing docs for smb, cifs, AD, rdp(dont know if they actually control it) etc., should they for free (open) that is debatable....
Considering RTF was created and maintained by Microsoft, RTF was always "Microsoft RTF".
HTML tags were invented by both netscape and by IE, and IE had the best implementation of html/CSS standards back in 2001, sure they quit developing and botched it by not updating after that.
XML.... hmmm.... eXtensible Markup Language.... everyone has their own implementation using XML, which includes xhtml, rss etc.
Performance monitor is one of the best utilities on windows. It is very detailed, and most MS apps have additional counters for other detailed views. It also does remote logging, basic graphing, alerts etc.
Think it through, if EULA dont matter, then the GNU license is well worthless. Now if people can sueing and get money for security holes, what happens to all the opensource devs.....
I think you might be looking the Microsoft SPOT watchs.... It lets you remotely sync calendar, get rss feeds and a lot more. Never used it personally, but have a couple of friends that do love it. But since you are on slashdot, a MS solution might not cut it.... but i think that is the only one
Funny... same reason here, except the Chicago Tribune would put my newspaper, on the fire exit side of my apartment complex. So it would take me atleast 5 mins to get my newspaper everyday from the apartment on the 3rd floor on the other side of the building. I cancelled because of that eventually. I would have gladly paid extra if they had dropped it off in front of my door.......
Was their BUDGET cut years ago, and never brought back up.
A lot of people I know tend to blame IT staff for lack of space, lack of bandwidth etc. when problem was that IT dept could not afford to purchase equipment to upgrade a service, and they just tend to use all the budget to maintain status quo. Trust me all IT folks out there LOVE to push out new technology, increase storage, better networks, and reduce helpdesk calls. But a lack of staffing and money can put a damper in the best of IT staff in the world.
Please... Asia is more diverse than anything else out there. They have the biggest democracy (india) which is what the conversation is about. India is no worse than the US in violating human rights. Both have rules against "Terrorism" that violate the basic principles of both their constitutions, POTA (india, later repealed) - Patriot Act (US, still in existance). China sure could improve, but that is for their people to want and change not you. Frankly you post seems too ignorant, and you seem tooo comfertable clumping a variety of cultures/countries together.
old bios module can be supported under EFI too. Like i said i am not blameing them for not supporting it, i am blaming them for telling people they did go out of their way to prevent running windows
To me, when apple said they did not do anything to prevent windows from running, that should mean not remove bios, udf, and el tsomething......
Since they did intentionally remove it, they might not be preventing it, they are sure are making it harder than it should be to install. I think they brought it upon themselves by commenting, they should have said, previous versions would not run, and future versions of windows might depending on MS.

I do like yours, but BOCTAOE = But ofcourse there are obvious exceptions

YMMV. BOCTAOE.
.Net Runtime as in CLI, the part that executes/generates the code is a standard...a structure
.NET API is not....
