I have a Mac. Metro is in no way whatsoever Mac-like. Unity obviously has taken some influence from the dock, menu system, but it also borrows window snapping and some other stuff from prior versions of windows.
Nvidia + HDMI here on Linux. I have minor issues when resuming from a suspend which requires me to kill my X session / log out in order to get 5.1 audio back (switches to 2.0 for some reason). Otherwise it works fine. DTS HD and Master Audio also works with XBMC over hdmi. In Windows on the same box I get a bluescreen when I try that. I also get a bluescreen in Windows when I try and use 24/192 over 5.1. So it's a mixed bag. The Intel HDMI built into the motherboard seems to work fine, as does the integrated Realtek chipset.
Fwiw, I never had that problem on my MBP running windows with 720p video and it's just a 2.6ghz core 2 duo with a 8600m (also Win 7 x64). I never tried 1080p iTunes video, though I know the machine is perfectly capable of decoding 1080p mkv with xbmc (in either Mac OS or Windows). I will agree that iTunes sucks unbelievably on windows compared to Mac OS, but I have had the problems you experienced. If it's still a huge issue with you, you could decrypt all your iTunes video content and play it back using something else (xbmc, perhaps, which uses DXVA). I ended up doing this to leave the Apple ecosystem for good, but that was for unrelated reasons.
I'm more partial to think the lighting on the faces is more to do with a simple bounce from the sun. He assembled the image from three separate virtual exposures. It's likely he chose the brightest one to use for the faces, his normal exposure for the walls and stuff, and the darkest one for the sky. I don't think he assembled the "HDR" using some automated method. More likely he just used more traditional blending (overlay, etc) of the different exposures and some layer masks as photographers have been doing for long before it was labeled with the misnomer "HDR". The Palestinians fake and recycle a bunch of photos, but this doesn't seem to be one of them.
And what about the chaos in the mean time? Also there is no guarantee religious fanatics would be willing to play by rational rules. They would be more likely to hold the oil supply hostage as a weapon.
The discrimination against women is not a result of the royal family. It's a result of the capitulation of the royal family to the demands of the religious fanatics to avoid seeming insufficiently Islamic. If the house of Saud falls, things will get much, much worse for anybody who isn't a straight, Sunni Muslim, male.
Already do this. The device takes a picture through it's front facing camera and automatically generates a "Mii" with similar features. I'm sure somebody else can find similar software that did this even before.
People have been eating Cicadas in the NoVa area for as long as I can remember. So far as I know, nobody has been poisoned. Then again, they only come out once ever few years.
They're actually pretty good. I grew up in Northern Virginia. Would be a waste not to eat them as they're literally trillions of them. If you eat crustaceans, you're basically eating bugs anyway. I don't see the taboo. They're not particularly pretty insects, but let's face it, neither is a lobster.
YouTube doesn't even re-compress if you upload a compliant video so you could easily do a verification at home before uploading. And yes. I too agree it's a stupid idea.
QR codes error correction is quite resilient. Even with heavy spatial/temporal compression, the data should still be recoverable. There are far better ways of hiding data than this, however.
Not just educated, but educated in tyrannical regimes and systems from abusive relationships to cults to dictatorships which all share common elements apart from scale. Sociology of coercive persuasion in should be taught. 1984, Farenheit 451, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's nest and many others should all be required reading in school. It's not enough to teach math, science, and so forth. The Soviet Union and their satellites had fantastic educational systems when it comes to the sciences.
To maximum? I doubt it. And even if it plays it ok, Crysis is 6 years old now. It'll be 5-10 years before an IGP can play Crysis 3 with all the niceties like tessellation and bounce lighting.
1080i60 is quite common on broadcast TV, there is really little point to 4k unless you have an 80 inch tv, and those 240hz tvs aren't actually letting you input 240hz (it's interpolation, which makes everything look like blurry soap opera shit).
Best quality encoding is always done in software because it requires multiple passes, however, when you're talking about actual editing, effects and such (even a simple blur) benefit from GPU support by an order of magnitude. Image processing is massively parallel. Ever use Apple's motion, for example? It's GPU support allows you to do in hardware in real-time what used to take hours in After Effects, where the GPU support sucks.
When you're doing any sort of composting or image processing, you need a GPU if you want any sort of WYSIWYG capability. Oddly enough, though, when it comes to production quality 3d rendering, many of the best renderers, such as Pixar's Renderman, are entirely software (some others do use GPU assist, but almost none are pure GPU). This will likely change in the future as brute force path tracing and MLT becomes more reasonable to do on GPU, but for the moment, software is still king.
They didn't want to alienate the people who loved their devices because they had full physical keyboards. They tried a full touchscreen device with the Storm and Storm II, but it failed miserably. The touch screens were horrible, buggy, and their attempts to provide tactile feedback were not very well done (you had to not only touch a key, but also apply pressure, which made it awkward). The Torch was a nice device, with a decent touchscreen and a full slide out keyboard, but it was, as you note, way late to the party.
Like the Windows 7 phones that will never get 8? Compare that to an iPhone or a Nexus device. You're right that a lot of android phone manufacturers suck at releasing updates, but iPads and Nexus devices do get updates for years. There is really no guarantee that will be the case with Windows RT, or even the 8 tablets (at least not officially).

You don't have to switch distros to change your window manager.

Mod this guy up as informative.

I it happens it'll affect the oil supply and that will throw the entire planet into chaos. The house of Saud is necessary.

Because it's not a particularly clever or interesting "because we can".

No kidding. The ruling is also peppered with lots and lots of Star Trek references. He actually begins it with a quote from the Wrath of Khan.

You're probably right. Compression artifacts might prove a big hurdle as well. I have a cheap surveillance DVR and the quality is terrible,
There is a foss implementation of something like that.
