Actually Darwin's theory *was* natural selection. Evolution was already believed beforehand by a large number of scientists, the problem was that the mechanism by which evolution occured was not known. One example of this is Lamarckian evolution, which was postulated many years before Darwin came around. Thus, the idea of evolution was already in place, and all Darwin was doing was arguing the mechanism by which it occured, natural selection.
I happen to disagree with you when you say that natural selection is wrong. There is indeed a large amount of proof showing that natural selection does take place. Simple experiment: take a petri dish of bacteria, load with antibiotics. There will be some bacteria that will survive to reproduce. Viola! Thats the basis of natural selection. How was that wrong?
Where's your evidence stating that nothing has proven natural selection to take place?
However, that is assuming that the brakes engaged in the first place. What everyone is pointing out is that since the car was being controlled by computer, we have no real way of knowing *if* the brakes could have been engaged or not. What if the computer glitched in a way such that the brakes were no longer functional? This would then still remain consistent with the story.
Hydrogen gas combines with oxygen to make water. Hence, theoretically no harmful emissions.
Running out of water is nearly impossible. First, the above process recreates the water that was originally used in the first place. Second, there is for all practical purposes an infinite amount of water. We would run out of space on Earth first for cars far far before running out of water.
The solar energy that the panels collect, if it had not been collected, would probably have been absorbed by the ground, not reflected back into space. Pretty much everything on the surface of the planet collects solar energy, usually in the form of heat. They all go towards "increasing the enery that is stored up in the earth atmosphere." So having the solar panels there to absorb energy shouldn't have any impacts as the incoming solar energy would have been absorbed anyway.
Hmm, two things. First, the definition of psych is "To put into the right psychological frame of mind." Second, the word you're thinking of is probably sic 'em, which looks more like siked than psyched.:P
Actually the article does state that the "PV-TV can generate 3.8 watts of electricity per square foot". This is not more than the solar constant since the solar constant happens to be in square meters. Darn units, huh?
I tried out these programs long, long, long ago, and I couldn't find anything to validate the claims that it made. It didn't bring about any miracle increase in speed. It didn't take any processing time, even when it claimed it was doing something. The game accelerator displayed before and after shots that looked as if they were simply loaded from preexisting graphic files. There were no real explanations of how these supposedly improvements were achieved. The whole thing stank of utter fud.
And when I made a post on the forum asking if the author could substantiate his claims, the post was subsequently deleted by the next day. Make whatever you will of that.
There have been some references so far to how much Duke will cost you yearly ($27,000), and I just thought I'd point out for anyone who doesn't happen to know that Duke's financial aid works on 100% financial need. Basically they calculate how much your family is capable of paying, and they go find the grants to help pay the rest. For example, I received a $20,000+ financial aid package, although I think it was more around $23,000.
Just something good to know for anyone who's still considering colleges and is worried about cost. A number of other colleges operate on the same system (i.e. MIT, CMU, Yale, etc), so keep your eyes open.
Not right. The equation you want is d = (1/2)at^2, where d is distance, a is acceleration, and t is time. Plugging in the values, you get approximately 7.7 seconds.
Actually, I wasn't sure if Mercora was actually written by the same guy who wrote Shareaza, despite what it says in the Slashdot summary. So I looked at the Company Info page and found this:
"Mercora has been founded by an executive and technical team that previously was instrumental in building companies such as Netscape and McAfee.com, and developing innovative products using peer-to-peer protocols and web based security services."
So supposedly they should know the P2P stuff as well:P
Why yes it is, how'd you guess?;)
More seriously though, I went back to look at the forums and it turns out it wasn't actually just a joke, but an actual idea by an anonymous poster. Whoever you are, we salute you:P
Several resources:
1) You can go to doom9.net and check out the Guides section.
2) Go here: XviD FAQ and check out the section called "What do all the different options mean." Note that a lot of the provided links are outdated now, but that should give you an idea for a lot of the settings.

Ack, I was wrong. Parent pointed out it was W and not kW. Darn units.

In my opinion, its fake.

100% need-based financial aid.

The reason you don't see any content is because, as stated in the summary *ahem cough wheeze*, the site works only with IE.

Impact velocity was 247.9 feet/sec.
Just making sure :P
Try deleting your profile (eep, make a backup first) and install those extensions again. Sadly sometimes its the only way.
Lots of Firefox 0.9-compatible extensions found here, including Tabbrowser Extensions and Googlebar.

Well you should probably periodically delete your spam rather then let it build up, you have no reason for keeping it.
Calm down, calm down. This is Slashdot, how can you expect no one to crack a joke when you mention any form of BS.

Er, the guy who wrote Mercora wrote Shareaza and designed the Gnutella2 protocol, so I'm pretty sure he knows a thing or two about P2P as well?
Perhaps you meant FHS?
He only expressed his opinion that Canon was doing a fair thing, he never claimed that he was a perfect man.
Hey, completely unrelated: where do you work? O:)
You're joking, right?
Why yes it is, how'd you guess? ;)
