    If you can, find the Schematics of the C64 on the internet and prise out the SID sound chips of those babies.

    The sound chips of the C64 were revolutionary for the time, and even today are still sought after by SID music enthusiasts and other PC music junkies (for use in PC board hardware - such as HardSID), and quite frankly I would like two of them myself!

    Put a sock in it. The C64 can nowadays serve web pages, surf the internet, receive email, and do office chores. All the time without being hacked!
    The OS boot time is also enviable (just switch it on)
    Just how many PCs these days are invulnerable to viruses, and boot instantly?

    Some people are loath to buy more expensive word processors when they have one that already works, and has been adapted to work with newer hardware (incl. ink jet printers, fast floppy and Hard drives, 16Mb memory, faster CPU, etc.). They're just a few of the reasons why people still use these things!

    Oh, and did I mention the library of over 15,000 games?

    Are you keeping up with the Commodore? Because the Commodore is keeping up with you!

    I think the interview transcript probably had a run in with babelfish.... or either that, Miyamoto knows a strain of Engrish. Anyone who has been to Japan will know that English enjoys a position as a status symbol... and people will throw grammar to the wayside just to be able to use it... in whatever form they can.

    Yeah, just imagine that. Windows XP running from Kernel ROM.... Just like a Commodore 64!

    At least it will make Windows a little less vulnerable to viruses.

    That's what I was thinking, but few people seemed to have guessed it. Imagine Windows XP being able to run on Windows 9x hardware. (Which I assume is what most Thais currently have)

    I think they're hoping to find pirated or illegal ANYTHING in the executive houses or anything of Sharman's networks.

    I think their plan is to do a raid and even if it turns up ONE slightly dodgy file, they're going to use that to link it with Kazaa and music piracy... which may give them a leg to stand on in court.

    The issue is this: these days its pretty damn hard to find a single PC out there without one slightly dodgy file on it.

    Reminds me of the early 70s and 60s before decent processor systems came out. All the amusement machines had TOYS in them and LED displays..... Much like the Penny Arcade in Disneyland! Now those were some real fun! I remember one game where you had to drive this toy car along a track, and the speed was simulated by a rotating light! Then there were the shooting games with paper cut outs and real rifles (minus the barrel!) I also remember one machine was filled up with matchbox cars, and you had a time limit to use a crane to pick them up and dump as many as you could before the time ran out!

    I work as a network engineer, and routers and VPN devices usually come out of the boxes in EULAed bags... much like prepackaged software. You know... "Do not open this plastic cover unless you agree to the EULA"

    I mean, this may be acceptable in a business environment, but the day when you get your next game console - it will probably come with all this legalese as well.

    I've gone to a few Amusement machine expos in Japan, and what I've been noticing from year to year, is that most new arcade machines don't tend to concentrate not so much on video display and joystick. I figure that's because that kind of hardware is available at home for everyone.

    Instead what you see now, are huge cabinets sporting some really interesting input devices.

    From the infra-red sensoring movement controllers, to the taiko (Japanese drum)-controllers, to all the pachinko pachinko-variants the Japanese have (which we will thankfully never see in the west).

    If I get the time, I should go check it out again. It's nearly time for it again this year.

    Yeah I got that far as well, but I had to tweak the settings in bochs in order to get it as far as the desktop. Are you using the newer version? I used the one just prior to the new one, and installation was a pain. Win98 set up didn't work properly and I had to manually format the HD image. Countdown to selecting boot device was a bit of fun as well.

    One positive thing I can say about Americas Army, is that I would no longer fear running into a hail of enemy bullets, tragically cutting short my young life. (not sure if that's the aim of the game or not) Hmmm.. methinks it's time to join the army. (Hang on a minute.... I'm not a US citizen!)

    I tried bochs a while ago, thinking I could get a virtual Windows 98 running on top of Linux.

    I was wrong.

    It was hard to install, and even when it did (after waiting for 2 hours + on a 2.4Ghz machine), it crashed BAD.

    Serves me right I guess.

    My girlfriend did a search on my name on google, and on the first 3 hits she found some page out of a BBS where some of my co-workers were slagging me off. Needless to say I will be calling them by their internet handles at work from now on.

    Wrong. A sensible customer will do the study *themselves*... knowing full well that asking Microsft to "Show me the data" is only going to result in a pro-Microsoft marketing campaign anyway. A lazy customer that just wants to be made to feel better about lining Microsoft's pockets will request the data from MS.

    Why do you even WANT to study something like this?
    Either way, it's obvious that Microsoft wants to trumpet itself... so ANY study they do is going to come off unfavourably.

    If Microsft just advertised itself similarly to the word of mouth advertising Linux does... then Microsoft would fair better.

    Unfortunately, Microsoft can't get the word of mouth advertising that money can't buy....
