*sucking air through teeth* They're still tempting, but I don't want to end up with something that's just going to annoy me.
ahh.. c'mon.. you know you want one... glistening brushed steel case... smooth silent running.... polite little 'boing' sound at boot....
seriously though, I have it hooked up to IIyama Vision Master pro 19 inch and it's fine, also on the Compaq 1720 tft it's good. I have seen them on Samsung and on apple's tft's.. believe me it's fine. I would advise you to go to the shop and see for yourself.
Yes, those mfrs have built essentially identical models from common platforms. They were built for both end products from the start. It's not the same as taking a Neon and modifying it to be Phaeton. Your analogy does not apply.
Please tell me which car shares a platform with the S class Mercedes?
Interesting, I just got my Mini and it works fine, there is a little dimmness but I could adjust it on the monitor. As for the reports you linked, some of them dealt with overclocking issues and well.. that may just be the problem. I have spoken to a buddy of mine who also complained of dimness and the only difference between his and mine are that his has all the airport/bluetooth/bigger drive options.. maybe there is a power consumption issue? His also complains when his wireless usb keyboard AND usb hard drive are hooked up... "too much power being drained"... so perhaps power consumption is the problem.
Other than that I must say I am thoroughly impressed with the device.
I think the biggest technical problem for x86 OSX is that they would have to suppprt a plethora of hardware options that really wouldn't earn them enough money in the end to pay it off. Tiger goes for around 130 retail so then what would they charge for x86 volume licenses? maybe 30 bucks? I doubt they could muster the current level of support and quality on 30 bucks a seat. Nope, better that users who really see the need dish out for the hardware as well, I mean think about it, you cannot turn a dodge into a mercedes just by changing the badge.
Growth is now the biggest threat to Apple because it is not so simple to scale your business to meet the demands of the market. Already Apple is feeling the strain, employees are being worked dang hard and the company is struggling to keep up supply. Success of Ipods, Ibooks and Mini's is so high that new OEM's are being used and all the long while, they still need to keep the quality and standards up to par with their reputation. If the mini's all started to exhibit failures and poor workmanship than that would harm the crossover (new mac users) market more than anything the competition could hope for.
The best situation for Apple now is to stabilize the growth and scale the infrastructure so it all runs smoothly. In EU there have been three month delays in some shops and that simply won't do.
Did you know that the IQ curve is a normal curve? did you know that the middle of it is IQ 100?
That means that half of your gun owners have problems with fractions.. but heck, I am not gonna tell the US how to run their affairs.. I sure wish they would return the favour.
Who said they're going out of business? At best, I would challenge their business model. You see if we make an assumption that earnings from operating systems sales are under threat, be it by migrations or massive discounts due to market pressure, then what will they sell to make up for the historically multi-billion dollar income? Understand that it's relativly easy to come up with a business plan to generate say, 100 million $ a year, a plan for 300-500million would be challenging but I am sure they could come up with it.. but anything above a billion??? I see this as a problem for microsoft, replacing the chicken with the golden egg.
But heck, never mind, anyone who sees this is, in your expert opinion, a moron.
ROFL@geoffspear (692508)
he average person who doesn't self-identify as a nerd doesn't moan about Microsoft sucking.
cool, I am gonna tell my boss, my mom and the next door neighbour(and he's a cabinet minister) that they are "nerds"!!!
Bash Microsoft all you want, but don't underestimate them.
ROFL!!
Do you think it's a coincidence that your user ID seems to indicate that you've been on Slashdot for "about a year or two"?
And this means what? Oh, I should be a hip-and-with it self-gratifying-blogging-geek?
I am not even going to tell you where to stick your assumptions about me.. I recall having read somewhere... try meeting me in person something about being impatient..
..which shows that the majority of people still buy their products.
Well then I hope you put your pennies in their stock, 'cuz I haven't met anyone recently who has actually purchased any of their software recently, say about a year or two.. Not even the office..
Somehow having everyone own a gun doesn't strike me as being conductive to my feeling safe. The fact that I live in a place where gun ownership is illegal and severely punishable by law makes me feel a whole lot safer, especially after having sworn at my neighbour this morning for his parking up against my bumper. I am sure he feels the same way about it.
For a while, at least in California, rape wasn't considered justification for usage of lethal force.
Whilst I am sure that rape occurs here, it doesn't present the level of threat in the voting mind-share to allow for the excesses of liberal gun legislation to be considered less of a problem then what you started out with. A rapist on a street without a gun had better hope no-one witnesses his act or he'd be in a heck of pickle, even without a gun in everyone's pocket.
Actually at the time MSD procured the shares it made a lot of sense. ES3 was set to turn a massive userbase into a load of paying users. It was everyone's ecpectation that a significant portion of professional non-paying RedHat Linux 9 users would convert their systems to the paying model. At the time the expectation was that RedHat would thus generate a healthy amount of liquidity and that is always good for share prices. The market didn't quite play out that way but that is of course with hindsight. MSD's decision was a rational investment. Getting Michael Dell a say in the shareholders meeting is of course the priviledge of wealth and there can be no doubt that Dell's views on the market are not without audience in Raleigh. For MSD to diversify his investements is just sound financial management, I mean would you hedge your entire financial future on Dell Computer??;)
speculation of Michael dell actually buying RedHat is, on this information, totally unfounded.
I actually think that Microsofts battle is on a different front. I think they have lost the mindshare of the public. With all the bad rap and the competing good rap on other alternatives it seems that the user is becoming less tolerant to the faults.
About a year or two ago, most users dodn;t moan too much about the BSOD's or the virus/worm attacks. Heck they didn;t even bugger too much about functionality problems. Nowadays, however, I hear much more moaning and frustration.
If microsoft loses the attitude of the user then I think their model is broken.
LOL!!
No shit eh? But some of us old-school-types-who-remember-the-sinclair are just as bad... why heck surfs up so.. hasta la vista, i go wax the longboard!!
remember da bull!http://www.legendarysurfers.com/surf/legends/lsc20 8.html
yep yep yep.. but wake up and smell the coffee..
Anarchy is a dream just as utopian as communism..
Lets all just be pragmatic here and ensure that government is as best as possible and not leave the use of violence to the strongest monkey in the jungle, okay?
But what happens when the criminals want more than just the car, and a cop isn't in sight?
In addition, mere aggregation of another work not based on the Program with the Program (or with a work based on the Program) on a volume of a storage or distribution medium does not bring the other work under the scope of this License>/blockquote>

Wouldn't be the first time. It happens all the time. A big client "rumours" they're ditching and Microsoft comes along with massive discounts. In many instances there isn't even a plan to migrate, just a rumour..
well that's why we had the (legitimate) there eh...
I mean in a utopia there is no government and we all live peacefully and happily in grass skirts surfing all day long but..~~~we ain't in kansas toto~~~ and all of the countries/regimes listed in your link fail some tests on legitimacy...
Oh I agree, and I am happy to argue the points of legitimacy. But you get my drift right? Let's keep it real... I live in europe and even though I may not always agree with our governments I do feel they have a degree of legitimacy, and certainly on the issue of legitimate monopoly on violence. It is a better world when the cops can deal with a car thief as opposed to when I would have to undertake that responsability myself.
Well I am no gpl expert but I was under the impression that anything shipped on the media had to be compatible in license. Anyway, sure, you can sell gpl stuff, what they sell is a distro. I just want to know how they sorted out the firewire install on apple computers with Open Firmware.
I don't see the paralel with guns. Apache webserver can be used to distribute illegal content, it is in many cases, should it then be banned? oh perhaps we should just do away with the internet altogether?
Guns were built to kill things, software was written to distribute content. Killing things is usually best left to a (legitimate) government who has the monopoly on legitimate use of force. Content is up to the members of society to be done in good taste and within the norms of such society.
I'd say most are looking for porn, movies, software, etc.
doesn't, by nature, break the rules, perhaps the problem lies not in the distribution medium but between the chair and the keyboard.
A pity these technologies always end up being dissed as being "vehicles of sin"... I actually hope it works... I download alot of Linux/bsd isos and it's a pain sometimes because of poor mirrors and shitty trackers, however if these swarms appear upon a new release then it makes sense to start downloading during the swarm as opposed to waiting for the rush to pass.

if you can't see the difference, I can't explain it to you! But thanks for the giggles!
And in other news... Longhorn will have a file system, we don't know what exactly or when but we are sure it will have one....
sorta sounds like...
this old joke
