My experience is that hanging up in the UK just doesn't work, they keep calling back. We had three calls from Kwik-Fit Car Insurance in three consecutive days this week. They didn't seem to realise that me hanging up means I'm not interested.
GCHQ is very well equipped to carry out this kind of operation. They can do all sorts of scary things.
The question of legality is in my mind entirely moot. Most countries have anti-spying laws, so by definition such organisations must operate outside the law.
I worry about the state of the US patents system if this is the case. I'm familiar with the UK patents system, where if you have a patent but no product or product development, you stand to lose your patent. Aside from that they're designed to be so expensive that it's uneconomical to patent every little piece of technology.
You're assuming that the cost of the logistics involved coupled with the cost of the recycling process is less than the value of the produced goods. I can tell you that the company responsible for paper and card recycling in North Lanarkshire pulled out of the scheme because this was not the case.
That's what I thought... why not just make a display that's twice as wide? Putting the central divide down the middle of this one seems artificial and unnecessary. Although I'm sure somebody'll come along and tell me why that's not physically possible...
Screen spanning on OS X annoys me, because you only get the menu bar on the 'primary' screen. So if I, say, move my web browser to the secondary screen, I have to go back to the first screen to open the Bookmarks menu.
I do agree with you Re the zoom button, but it's annoying when it doesn't quite work. When reading PDFs, Preview.app sometimes doesn't fill as much of the screen as it really should, and I have to expand the window manually to make the text readable.
Agree with you on points 2 and 6. Points 4 and 5 I can accept. Disagree on 1, 3 and your spelling of 'recycling'. If you're not going to pay for recycled boxes per unit or through taxes, how are you going to pay for them?
Sometimes I think that the only reason America has freedom of speech is because it's written in the constitution. The population sure doesn't seem to respect it.
In the same vein, I object to the ridiculous amount of screenspace the Atlantic Ocean is given in weather forecasts, considering its low population. It should be reduced immediately.
This had me checking the calendar to see if it was the 1st of April, and then a map to confirm my suspicions (and check that nothing had changed drastically since the last time I looked).
I believe I'm correct in stating that Portugal doesn't actually have a North coast.
If the target audience for this product is going to be businesses and schools, why the hell are they bundling Windows Media Centre with it? If this is going to be installed on older hardware, hard drive space is going to be at just as much a premium as everything else, and yet they're wasting it on software that isn't going to be used while offloading important stuff (MS Office?) on a central server!
I think this is going to be another 'XP Starter Edition' rather than a serious product.
The first thing I do when I set up Opera on a computer is rip apart the default UI and set up my own. I'm quite fond of it. By default, Firefox looks a lot better, but I've never managed to customise it to my exact liking. I never even found a skin that I liked.
I was having horrendous problems with the Linux version of Opera 8 final, it was segfaulting every hour or so. I think it was something to do with the way it handled new tabs. By contrast, the Mac version of Opera 8 (still in Beta) has never segfaulted on me.
As far as the disk image problem is concerned... any information on whether or not it was fixed? The article's almost a year old, I'd hope so... I think disk images are less of a worry than ZIP archives and the like, because they don't actually place their contents in the filesystem. Of course, I could be completely wrong.
And in Australia, the 'rabbits' are six feet tall.

I'm Australian, you insensitive clod!

Government spy businesses don't exactly hide either. Have you seen the GCHQ building?
Traitor?

I'm 40% titanium!
How much more revenue will they get out of IE7 on XP? I mean, they give it away for free.

They were showing wind direction, speed and temperature on Reporting Scotland the other day, in the same way they did with the old maps.
No.
Here are the old and new weather maps.
Here is a satellite photo of the UK.
Take Jersey and Shetland as an example. They're both about the same size on this map, but Shetland is far larger in real life.
I've managed to complicate the use of my MX1000, by losing the bloody charger. I'm using my 1 button mouse as a result.
Such people are most likely exempt. Why do you think it was Blunkett that was in charge of the scheme?
Who said anything about RFID?

It's a funny old world.

I use VLC to watch my porn. Full screen, baby.
