  1. Re:Sooo on How the Pirate Bay Will Be Legalized · · Score: 1

Sure, but the point is that TPB is well known and everyone's mom is getting some kind of something from there. I am sure that if just 5 nerds got together we could compile a bah-ton of crazy files.

Personally I use Beyond TV to record HD shows and it then converts the files to DIVX. I can keep a couple of TB of shows and movies without batting an eye. I am sure that I could (if I wanted to) put these in a torrent automatically as they finished and share that with some kid that works for Redbox and rips movies all day long... We could amass bah-thousands of video files and probably never have anyone the wiser.

The point is, TPB is all over the place and everyone knows about it. It will likely turn into something like Napster. Everyone used it for a few years and now hardly anyone does, but they must be making some kind of money to still be around.

Truthfully, it sounds like their business model is more close to a cross between YouTube and Pandora or Slacker. They are just going to assume that it is all good, pay people if it is not and remove content if someone wants them to.

Also, if TPB goes away, then MPAA and RIAA will claim victory and maybe chill out a little and quit taking old grandmas to court.

I have had the same experience. I spent over a year working for myself out of my home and found that when I was not bound by the rest of the world's idea of time, that my "days" shifted by being extended about 2 to 3 hours each "night". It did not really bother me, but it was kind of a pain when my "afternoon" started at 5:00 in the A.M. and I could not order a pizza or I had to set my alarm so that I could make it to the post office before they closed. Over all, I found that I was much more productive for longer periods of time and never had that butt dragging feeling that I get in my cubicle cage. I totally need 8 to 9 hours of sleep though.

This has pretty much already happened with Apple and the iTunes store to some extent and I believe that if Microsoft did it with games, then the same kind of thing would happen: the masses would love it because they are told to. Creators (developers or musicians) would feel screwed because they would pretty much HAVE to release on that platform in order to get a large market share, but would have little say over the pricing or how much they have to pay The Man. Others with half a brain would just not buy into it and use something else.

Yes, but could the Austin WinTower 486/33E Speak OR Spell? I think not! at least not with the provided specs. ;)
Also, the keyboard comparison is purely opinion. The eee pc has an integrated keyboard (which I like) AND will take a usb keyboard, which you could argue is fair considering the mouse comparison and the fact that an AT keyboard is externally attached anyway.
I am thinking that the speak and spell could totally take your WinTower in a comparison anyway. I mean, you can make interplanetary phone calls with some simple modifications that enable the "Phone Home" features...

I first read the comparison between a C64 and an iPhone and thought that was dumb, but I am surprised to see another "comparison" story.
Yes, back in the day, things were old and different, but comparing them really does not do much.
It might be more useful to compare an array of things like storage methods over time (washing machine platters, real to real tape, cassette, floppy, HD, zip, jazz, optical, cd, dvd, flash). Or maybe interesting memory storage methods, for example, did you know that there was a method of storing data in "memory" by keeping a pulse in a tube of mercury? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delay_line_memory) That is cool.
Any more of these "comparisons" should compare more than one old school item to some modern device. That would make it more interesting and seem a lot less like comparing apples to ... rocks.

There are almost 200 countries in the world. Taking this route is like a step in the direction of taxing any corporation in any country because an American owns stock in that company or because the U.S. government just plain wants to. Other countries are sovereign nations that have their own people, laws, customs and taxes. If you do not like what is in the U.S. you should leave, right? Well that is just what these corporations did. They did not like the taxes here, so they incorporated elsewhere.

Corporations are treated like their own legal entities. If you want them in the U.S., then the U.S. needs to be attractive.

Cities have often times given special tax breaks to large companies in order to get a plant or whatever built in their city (Why do you think Dell is in Round Rock, TX instead of Austin?). The feds should do the same.

This is almost like saying that if I were to give up my U.S. citizenship and become a citizen somewhere else, then the U.S. should be able to come after me and tax me if I do any business with Americans.
