So, your internet connection at home is wireless? The only time I've had wireless internet, it sucked, huge lags are the main issue, not even the throughput speed. Beyond the fact a wired connection is much faster.
I've never kept enough tabs open for long enough in either browser to have an issue... though having flash on one tab only kill that tab when it breaks is pretty nice... overall, I only wish there were a pre-request option for the plugin API so a plugin can filter tracking/js downloads before they happen.
First off, I would object to a search/confiscation of my phone without a warrant, and without consulting a lawyer. Second, don't store incriminating evidence on your phone, or take it with you to commit a crime...
The issue here *IS* exactly government control... it's the government granted monopolies in ideas, not even inventions... especially in those that don't pass the obviousness test. As to the large corporations polluting the environment around Louisiana, I'd look first to the corrupt politicians and their appointees.
Agreed, though PC-BSD is really nice, on supported hardware, the lack of, and/or late driver support is just unbearable... Really nice for network (monowall) or NAS (FreeNAS) base OS though... stable API structure good... breaking everything under the sun every other kernel update, bad.
Yeah, but how many Linuxdesktop featues (Like gnome) are being ported to OSX..? The point of TFA was that the effort spent on BSD ports of the likes of Gnome is wasted... I don't know that I agree.. I wish BSD had more userbase, and the dedication to driver support that Linux has. A stable API is a good thing, and I am genuinly surprised BSD isn't chosen for more embedded OS functionality where linux gets chosen.
I don't know.. the Athlon XP was very competative with Intel, and the later Athlon's smoked the Pentium 4's of the time... Core 2 vs. Phenom was a legup to Intel and iX was a further lead to intel.. on the IGP front, I think AMD will lead again here at least for overall performance. Hoping to see more options, the E-350 seems really compelling for its' price class.
Yeah, because everyone who buys an iPhone gets a mac to take up software development.
I have a mac laptop, because when I bought it, there weren't many options in <=13" laptops that didn't have really crappy CPUs, and I won't spend a dime on Sony. The netbooks at the time weren't quite fast enough, used one for over a year. Today, would probably go for a 12" E-350 based laptop/netbook... but will be using the mbp for a couple more years still.
I don't think this would happen unless they are getting access to a lot more for their streaming library. I personally don't use the DVD shipping much, so dropping that service. Will use redbox when I want to see something newer "tonight".
Personally, I really haven't been using the DVD delivery much at all, they tend to sit on my shelf for months, until I get around to it... the streaming is used a lot more, and I'd rather drop the DVDs, have my overall price down a few dollars a month and see more streaming content. I don't get the "just drop it" attitude.. if you aren't using both, as most people I know are either DVD only, or stream only.. it's a drop. I do think that if you keep both, you should get a $1 per DVD discount up to $3 for having both services.
It would be pretty cool for interior design work... will that furniture set fit in this area? what about entertainment center placement? Oooh, colors on the walls? I mean there are a lot of applications that do some of this, but being able to do a short 360 turn, and have it image, and map out a living space could be very useful. Probably more so 5-10 years ago during the house flipping boom, just the same.
I also think it would be cool to be able to aggregate that data into real-world mapping, and correlate with other views via GPS... want to get a general landscape for an area you (city) want to build a park on... There are lots of areas where low accuracy is good enough for a proof of idea, and especially in the design space.
At the price point, there's a few AMD C-50 and E-350 based laptops cheaper that are more capable... not sure where this fits in. I'm still waiting for the doesn't suck in SFF laptops under $300. I'd really like an E-350 10-12" under $350.
Agreed, I *HATE* having people post on my wall, especially the game invites, etc.. I just don't care for any of them.. I know FB has to make a buck to pay for things, and didn't mind the ads to the right (though none of them were anything I'd be interested in)... I do mind the constant deluge of game posts.
That would be nice.. though I just use the google reader interface.. the *share* from greader from those in my circles showing up on my stream would be nice.. at least title and a brief summary.
If you have picasa on your desktop, you should be able to attach that to your G+ , and can use that to sync them up (pictures)... the hard part was videos, I uploaded 3 files around 150MB each, that took a while, then the next screen froze up on me after conversion finished, and the videos weren't there..:( will try one at a time later... drag+drop of images to the site in chrome works pretty well.
And yes, I guess I am a Google fanboy. Though, I'm pretty quick to be critical of things, Google hasn't actually done anything that would deserve too much criticism, other than they have a lot of information on a lot of people's online habits. Though they've earned that through their better service offerings, and aren't to my knowledge sharing that information with 3rd parties.
I don't feel this is really worse than FB sharing their data with 3rd parties. I use Google services, I appreciate that their advertising tends to be relevant to me, and not in my face. I'll take that over FB sharing with every third party advertiser or application that other people run in their system. A friend runs an app, and that app now has information on you. That's just not cool.
It didn't take too much effort for me to get in, just tweeted/fb'd that I wanted an invite, and had one a few hours later. It's a limited trial (closed beta) so wouldn't expect too much growth too quickly... as for me, my biggest appreciation is the lack of "apps"... I really get sick of them on FB, and sick of all the cross-posts that appear in my stream because a friend or family member got a new pig in farmcity.
But, google doesn't lease that data out to third parties as FB does. Also, FB is expanding into other areas. FB encourages third party development, and exposes all of your personal data to those third parties, because your niece likes to play FarmVille, her information is tracked/shared with numerous third parties, and distributed to who knows where. Google, it just, well... Google. They aren't sharing their data, and yes, they collect more of it, this doesn't make them a bigger privacy breach, it only means they have more data to work from. IMHO the bigger breach is sharing privacy data with third parties, without consent.
Irony, an unconstitutional act that actually does relate to commerce provisions in the Constitution. (as opposed to the gov't bloat under the guise of it)
How do I get my music from my desktop to a newer iOS device without iTunes?
As to the contact sync, without connecting to the computer?
The fact remains, I don't like iTunes, and interaction with iOS devices is severely hampered without it. I tend to be pretty indifferent regarding my OSes, I happen to like aspects of Windows (7 is my fav), Linux (though Ubuntu since 9.04 has been downward slide imho) and OSX (though recent apple decisions irk me.
But, I can't stand iTunes...even on my Macbook Pro. I'm pretty anal about my file naming, and folder/directory naming. I also have music on my NAS, and it's a pain to access via iTunes... I can't use newer iDevices without iTunes... My android contacts sync to my online contacts since I first got my G1, and I can manage my files/apps as I see fit, with options from many vendors.
My biggest reasons for not using iOS devices are the lockin, and iTunes... Lion being online-only distro irks me as well. Not so grandma friendly, when grandma can only get slower broadband, with usage caps (and several hours drive from the nearest apple store)... but hey, you keep your idealized POV.
Or the old AOL (Current XM Radio) tactics... put you in a queue for close to an hour... offer X, offer Y, mysteriously drop you call... repeat 3 times... lose customer, who only wanted to drop one of the three XM radios on his account, forever.

I usually correct the setting in VMWare, not sure on others... something I've forgotten about until I get my midnight reports in the later morning.

I'd +1 that. (and + Arduino for additional control interfaces)

Been thinking of playing with the mint xfce and lxde versions... since they're basically Debian with better default install options.
