Actually having the option is not the same as having a speedy implementation of it. I just tested all three browsers.

I changed IE as you suggested. With firefox I used preferential to change the cache check_doc_frequency to never.

I then ran a series of web pages in each then stepped back and forward with buttons. Results:

Opera seems like you are flipping a static image cache it is that fast. No hesitation absolutely instant.

Both IE and FF have noticiable delay, you can see the items drawn on the screen. In one page they took a long time. Firefox was the slowest and still seemed to be loading. Perhaps the option doesn't work.

This page was quite slow on both. All pages lightning on Opera.

If I had to guess, I would say opera is caching pre-rendered pages, while the others store files but render when you load the page.

Whatever the reason, my original point remains, Opera is an Order of magnitude faster with cached pages. It is not contest. Once you get used to INSTANT, you can't go back.

I agree. I am an Opera user since way back. It is still my main browser but I use Firefox extensively. Mainly because of Operas poor javascript implementation.

I can't read my Gmail with Opera, My online banking doesnt' work with Opera. I use add suported because if I need a second browser I am not paying for the first.

Fix that (or ignore that) and it is by far the best browser IMO. This is from someone typing on Firefox right now.

Opera even with all features integrated is leaner and faster. None of the features collide, which is a problem I have with some firefox extensions (to try and get Opera functionality).

Opera addiction. Opera seems to be the only browser with true page caching. Hit back 4 times as fast as you can and instantly you will be back 4 pages. No load times and seemingly no render times. It is totally cached. This is like browsing on JOLT. Once you get hooked on the speed it is hard to go back.

To me going to the slower browsers is like going from DSL to dialup. I need my speed.

The best choice right now is TBE single window mode. Even with this I still get an occaisional extra browser opening on me.

Work will be the same if you work for the same type of organization. The only corporate difference, is you can expect less money in your pocket when all is said and done. On to those differences.

    Money:

I definitely make less than my counter parts in the USA. Here is a fictional breakdown that is somewhat representative of buddies (many) who left for the USA.

    Location Me(Canada) Buddy (USA)
Gross pay 60K CDN 75K US
After Tax 40K CDN 56K US

    Xbox price $200+15% 149+4%
    Total XBs: 174 361

There you go. At the end of the day after tax you get paid more than double the amount of Xboxes to work in the USA.

    Now onto some other differences:

    Health care:
It has drastically declined in Canada. Anyone I know who has left in recent years feels they are much better served in the USA. You will wait 6months to get an MRI here. If you work for a company with decent benefits your care will be better in the USA.

    Guns:
On a per capita basis, I remember hearing ownership is similar, but here it is more hunting rifles and less handguns. There is much less gun violence here, but it is constantly increasing espcially in Toronto.

    Religion and Politics:
Unlike in the USA they hardly mix. Religion is much more low key in Canada. It is is a more socialist and secular society. Our most right wing political party is probably to the left of the Democrats in the USA.

That is my observation as a Canadian in hi-tech. Come here if you want a change to a more liberal and secular society. But you will have less money and your job will suck just as much.

Finally I started getting consistent crashes in a game I wanted to play (NWN). This lead me to an exhaustive diagnostic process that eventually proved my card was at fault. AT this point my Card was 2.5 years old. I sent it back to ATI. They replaced it with a 9700 Pro free of charge. Now that is what I call customer service. The kind of move that wins customer loyalty. That ATI warranty is worth a premium to me. I fully realize you are not often likely to get that kind of free upgrade, but a nice long warranty with fast replacement is much appreciated. I realize a lot of people here are complaining about past grief with ATI product, but they have made dramatic strides in the last 2 years. Now releasing drivers monthly. Performance, Image quality and reliability are all top notch. They lag in Open GL a bit, and moreso on Linux though. So I can see lots of folks here passing them by.
