Steam Boxes will have to be out in the wild for a while to get a sizable user base before alot of devs would create Linux ports I would guess. The current SteamOS Linux user numbers are so low it wouldn't be financially viable for a big company to make a Linux version, unless they plan on supporting SteamOS and are willing eat the dev cost losses until the user numbers grow. Valve has the $ and incentive to do alot of devs don't have that luxury.
You don't enter a pin using tap to pay here in Canada, since it slows down the process and the point of tapping is to speed up the payment process. Your card usually has a very small tap transaction limit. My credit card has a $50 max charge per tap transaction, thought I would like to get it bumped up to $100 or maybe even $200. I think the banks here are starting with low limits to to see how things work out since its still a fairly new technology.
It will be interesting to see what becomes of Mantle, but it does have the potential to greatly increase the performance of games that support it and extend the life of ATI cards. Being the owner of a 7950 I'm looking forward to seeing how much of a performance boost Mantle gives vs. DirectX. I believe Battlefield 4, which I plan to purchase, will be one of the first Mantle supported games when they patch in Mantle support in December, can't wait to try it out.
Whats to buy? Its going to be free to download and install, like Steam is today. Yeah there will be SteamOS devices built by Valve or most likely other companies, but since its free alot of people will probably try it. My use case will be installing it on my older pc for a living room based gaming PC.
As for people adopting it, when the SteamOS and the hardware are released you know Valve is going to have a big carrot dangling to get people to try it out, something related to a game with a 3 in the title methinks.
In all my years of University and working at tech companies after I have yet to see anyone eat a Twinkie. Can't say I've ever heard of them being called the "Breakfast of Programmers" before, but I guess they had to shoehorn a way to put it on/. Even the overlords at DICE gotta eat I guess.
Nvidia has always been pushing their propriety tech, so its not surprising they don't support ATI video cards for streaming, but they are cutting out a large number of users by supporting on their cards. The number of people who are going to buy an Nvidia card so they can stream to Shield is probably going to be very low compared to the number of current ATI customers who may have given it a try, myself included.
"it was probably their idea and lobbying that forced Sony and MS's hands."
Yes, I'm sure EA crammed it down their unwilling throats, with a smelly yet gold-encrusted plunger taken from Riccitiello's gold-plated water closet.
Why would Microsoft or Sony care about losing revenue from used game sales? The full revenue they get from a new game sale and the $7 license fee for 3rd party games, who would want that money?
While not confirmed anywhere yet (I don't believe) the ability to block used games on the upcoming consoles at the publishers whim has been rumored for a while now.
Given the supernova suns DICE implemented in Battlefield 3 plus J.J. working on the next Star Wars movie, the DICE Star Wars game is going to require sunglasses to play. If you want to save your eyesight, that is.
Breaking Bad, Boardwalk Empire, Justified, Mad Men and Homeland are a few of the terrible shows I've watched in the past decade. Thank goodness for Amazon coming "rescue" us from this tripe!
"Thanks to him, potential buyers of this product know what they're facing. Any potential customers here should be thanking him for giving them the heads-up."
Actually they don't, because nothing has been formally announced or proven beyond a doubt yet about what Microsoft's next device requires. If anything we can thank him for showing Microsoft and other gaming companies just how much people loathe always online.

I bought the Pro upgrade last week. Maybe I should pick up some Blackberry stock this week while I'm at it.
I'm sure Mr. Huang and his children are enjoying these devices immensely.

Carlos is full of it. He only made $4000 in a month, on the Internets.

Don't most PS3 games come on Blu Ray discs?
What's not to love about this?
Ubuntu
Someone needs to make a Kinect/Eye Toy/Mobile game that engages pets and generates a bunch of bogus random data for NSA spend resources crunching.
The Walking Dead is at the height of its popularity right now. The S3 finale had its highest ratings yet.

World War Z has raked in $366 million so far, so I don't think people are tired of zombies yet.
Motorola's future press release will contain something along the line of "It was mistake!?"
Why on earth not?

Hopefully they add more functionality to apps, make the store useable on PCs, etc, etc. And of course there is that Start menu thingy...
Slashdot mods, come on, where are they. I could also use some Jersey Shore, Teen Mom or Fix This Kitchen related posts.
/. sooner to give us great content like this.
I only wish DICE would've bought

Better be careful, you just may have just popped on an FBI watch list posting that.
Hi Charlie!
Sarcasm detector on the fritz old chap?
