I disagree. Teaching students the tools of the trade (IDEs, debugging, control structures, if....then...else) are the foundations of the Science. You are taught math the entire time in high school, and an advanced math program starts with the assumption that you know how to add, subtract, multiply, etc. Teaching kids, either in high school or CS101 gives them the tools to move onto and understand Binary Trees and Linked Lists..

Not really. Crackers still attempt to gain access to DB in search of creditcard and SS Numbers. With the proliferation of SQL injects available script kiddie can steal information from online shopping carts. Take the recent issue with mastercard and the intrusion into their customer DB. Thousands of credit card number were released. To say that it doesn't happen any more, is to, at best, be a bit naive.
The fact that your change OSs negates your argument. An a soft reboot, all memory is cleared, you are starting with a clean slate again. In any event, the uptime is mesured by the amount of time the OS is running, not the computer.

How can they legally sell you a song if they only have 1 CD of it? The would need to buy a CD for every song or CD downloaded right?
I'd like to invite YOU to create a virus that will spread like mblaster on linux. It not the user/per virus ratio, its more like, virus/"dumb user and a OS with more holes than swiss cheese" ratio. You would need to be root all the time to have a virus spread like that on a linux system.The average Joe IRunWindows, will see an e-mail saying: "free PR0N!", and think "cool, somebody thought of me, i love spam!" and he will click it. On linux if he does that, it wouldn't matter.
Don't be blinded by the generosity; they're potentially gearing up to be just as wicked of a monopoly as Microsoft. Whether their intentions are clear or not, that probably should not be happening, since too much power has a tendency to corrupt -- except under very exceptional circumstances.

Watch, MS will copyright some key element that allows the OS to interface with the USB devices - prohibiting anyone from making compatible software.
I don't see this happening. The instant the copyright was applied for, it would (well should) be shot down. That would be a very blantant monopoly. Do you really think that they'd get away with that??

i don't know about IBM, but our registers run MS- embedded dos, and are junk, they run, yeah, but they are painstakingly slow...
