If the people on the inside surface were much more evolved than us, then surely they would know calculus. Therefore, they would figure out that anywhere inside the sphere, they would actually be weightless.

centrifugal force would give them weight, since they have mass. the prof. in the linked article should have qualified his answer to "inside a hollow, non-rotating sphere".

I haven't heard about visual artists complaining about photocopiers.

Art was never a career. Get over it.

I haven't seen a successful busker who's playing a CD and expecting money. People need to *WORK* for their money. .. if you're a musician, that means concerts, or selling out into advertising.

Did ford get sued by the horse and cart companies?

try posting a copyright protected image online and see if the artist complains. the act of making a copy isnt the problem, its the distribution of that copy. notice who is getting sued? the people UPLOADING files. those who are downloading them are not breaking the law, since they are only downloading something that is being freely offered. thats why the riaa hasnt sued the people who have downloaded songs provided by the moles on kazaa. they put stuff on there to see who is downloading it, then request a list of what you are sharing. if they find copyright protected files, they sue. if not, they troll for another fish, and you have a free song. if they tried to sue you for downloading, it would be entrapment. and as for frod, the cart makers didnt sue him, but the other car manufacturers did. and no, ford didnt invent the car, he just made them cheap and affordable thru assembly line production.

Don't you need air to create sound ? If so how could a black hole create sound ?

no, you dont need air to create sound. you need vibration. you also need molecules to transmit those vibrations to a reciever. sound travels very well in water, and while there are bubbles, there certainly isnt what i call air. molecules are the key, and space certainly contains enough of those. it might not transmit sound audible to the human ear, but it does transmit sound.

you have your terminology wrong. subverting copy PROTECTION is a crime. mp3s come from cds with no copy PROTECTION. most music distributed on cd is protected by copyright. most of the stuff that isnt protected by copyright is crap, and no one would convert it to mp3 if it was on a cd that they could use for target practice.

  10. Re:This is good for the average AOL user on AOL Hacks Subscribers' Computers · · Score: 1

One way of looking at this is that AOL is simply taking Microsoft's quality issues into their own hands. As for crossing into the uncharted waters of adjusting Windows settings from within the AOL application, don't they do that already during setup to arrange dialup settings, etc.? Really, the only thing I'd see wrong with this is the lack of notification by AOL to their users.

they do notify their users, not specifically, but on the packaging for the new client that performs this action automatically, it says "stronger pop up controls" and "more powerful spam controls". turning windows messenger off is part of those controls. whats the big deal? remember who is benefitting from this, technically challenged aol users who have complained loudly about the pop ups and demanded that aol do something about it. its easy to slam aol for doing this, because they are number one, and that makes them the biggest target out there. most of the negative posts here are probably written by linux nazis who cant use aol anyway.

And that's also assuming that the judge doesn't issue a summary judgement, where, if the Plantiff and the Defendant agree on the facts of the case (i.e. Did you infringe or did you not?), the judge issues a ruling based on the facts of the case, which, in a suit like this, would be in favor of the Plantiff. In this situation, the suit would never go to trial, and you'd be SOL.

IIRC, you have the right to be tried by a jury of your peers. arent summary judgements only issued if you give up that right, either in person, through a duly appointed representative, or by failure to appear? or does that not apply to civil cases?

  15. Re:Missing the point on Could 'Fire Paste' Replace Shuttle Tiles? · · Score: 1

actually, there wasn't a hole in the structure of the wing, the foam strike at liftoff caused a slight misalignment in the carbon/carbon caps on the port wings leading edge. this allowed plasma to seep past, melting the aluminum wing leading edge structure beneath, thus breaching it. this in turn led to plasma invasion into the wing itself, resulting in severance of sensor wiring, and control surface hydraulic lines. this resulted in increasing oscilattions of the craft, which caused a angle of attack overlimit, with the end result being the weakened wing getting ripped off. i wonder if the application of this "fire paste" beneath the tiles might have given enough protection to allow the shuttle to survive the remaining 16 minutes of its flight? i have been following the developments of the accident investigation quite closely, as i watched the shuttles breakup from 75 miles south of its flight path, and participated in the debris recovery effort. its a tragedy not to be forgotten in my lifetime.
