Lots of people are migrating to iPhones, BlackBerries and Android smartphones. The "third world no-frills phone" never caught here.

iPhones only arrived here because Claro, they operates in almost every country in latin america and managed to convince Apple. After that, Apple realized how good they were selling and allowed the rest of the operators to carry the iPhone

Not when you DON'T want to be a global player. Apple doesn't care about developing economies. They don't sell to Latin American countries, for starters. If you want to be a game-changer you HAVE to be able to sell to the entire world. But Apple doesn't care about non-first-world countries. So Apple computers here are white, shiny and pretty. With an ugly black power cord for our power sockets, because Apple doesn't make one for us.

I don't know what's the deal with that. But hey, if Dell, Sony, HP/Compaq, Microsoft and even (formerly) Sun have entire office buildings in my country, but Apple doesn't even have a support line... well, fuck Apple.

I noticed that most smartphone users complain that their phone's alarm doesn't work when the phone is off.

I thought my friend was weird when he said that but then lots of people say the same. I don't get it. Why do you even turn off the phone anyway? If someone calls you in the middle of the night it's cause they really, positively need your attention. Or is it that most people actually have annoying friends who call you at any time?

I just turn off the sync option so 3AM spam won't wake me up, but the phone is on in case someone needs to talk to me.

Back to the RTC, AFAIK, RTC chips do have alarm (pull the IRQ line when the alarm is fired). Maybe phone designers think people will never turn off their phone so they don't use the RTC's wake up capability. I don't see why. The RTC is built-in in many processors actually, so it's just a matter of turning the phone on, fire the alarm, and eventually turn it back off.

ipv6.google.com doesn't work anymore. Your ISP needs to partner with Google so google's DNS serves will return IPv6 addresses to hosts in those networks.

Google or Facebook aren't hesitating. They're actually working on it. I don't know what else you want them to do. Of course they're not going to put IPv6 on their main domain, but that's only because most OSs and hosts have a broken implementation: they ask for an AAAA record first, timeout, and ask for an A record then. They don't check if IPv6 is working first and fall-back to all-IPv4.

And about the hardware support, Jesus Christ, get over it already! I have a HP K8600 printer, which is over two years old, and it has a sticker: IPv6 ready! Even HP's JetDirect cards support IPv6.

Yes and no. Now that their computer line is Intel-based, you realize how far behind the competition they are. Hint? How much did it take them to release Core-i based machines? While HP and the rest of the big guys already had even i7 laptops out there, Apple was still lagging behind with their Core 2 Duo line.

Reality check: yes, I know there's no reason to rush to get a Core-i machine if a Core 2 Duo is doing fine. But the point is that it took them a long while to come out with Core-i machines.

Why am I making this point? Well, I have a good memory, and I remember 1997 commercials. They always claimed to have the fastest prettiest bestest machine ever, but the truth is, they're not into that anymore. So why don't they just give up their computer line and start selling OS X for PCs? Plenty of people like it but not a lot are interested in buying overpriced Macs.

It's a matter of security too. Having a crowd inside the bank certainly complicates things for the guards. It's a liability for the bank too.

As a bonus, doing it through the human teller makes the operation instant, but using the ATM (except for cash withdrawals) theres a delay. They "count" the money in ATMs starting 3PM here. So if you made a deposit at 2:59 it takes just a few minutes, if you do it at 3:01, you have to wait until next day.

And finally, you can pay bills here in some banks (phone, utilities, etc). Banks make money on that. They don't want you delaying the lines if they're not making money for it.
