    As the first torrent site to appear on the network, Play can be accessed directly through a ZeroNet URL (only available with the tool installed).

    "Only available with the tool installed"? OK, so the ZeroNet tool is installed, it's open source (good), multiple platforms (cool) and it uses bitcoin cryptography to, and I quote the ZeroNet website: "Your account is protected by same cryptography as your Bitcoin wallet".

    Riiiiiiiiiiight. The same Bitcoin wallet that was cracked recently? Oh, and by the way, it only protects your IP address if you go through the Tor network. You mean, the same Tor network that was successfully attacked by researchers?

    And this combination of two technologies is supposed to protect people? Really?

    We have been promised AI was just around the corner since the 50s and the 60s.

    Show me even one system that is able to match human beings in creativity and resourcefulness. No, Deep Blue does not count: playing chess, or even go, is not the same as creating the LIGO experiment.

    We have been promised sex robots for years now. All this time, Google has been struggling to make self-driving cars.

    Don't believe me? Google "google self-driving cars shortcomings"... Turns out even the mighty Googleplex cannot make self-driving cars that handle, say, a bit of rain and snow. Or potholes and unexpected construction works.

    And we are talking about cars, where the level of tolerance is about, say 15cm to 20cm.

    Sex robots should be able to handle facial recognition, tolerance of a centimeter at best, a couple of millimeters at worst, not to mention level of... er... interaction that are way beyond even the most advanced stuff we have in labs now. And I don't want to imagine patching sex robots for the latest security exploits, when the "Internet of Things"(Gosh, I hate that fscking market-speak) is the cesspit of horrors it is right now.

    Oh, and just imagine the bedlam if confidentiality of sex-robot ordering is breached, Ashley-Madison style...

    Sure AI, or at least neural networks and expert systems, may replace a lot of white-collar jobs, and good ridance to them (Lawyers and Bankers, especially, better brace for a richly-deserved comeuppance). But HAL is definitely not in our future. And no sex robots either.

    OTOH, Xen has long touted its security focus and has a really tiny attack surface so I'm happy to be using that in Qubes OS as well.

    Excuse me? Xen had more than 100 security alerts in 2015, some extremely severe.

    And Xen is based on qemu, which has been proved to be fairly insecure in its own right.

    Using Qubes OS, which is based on Xen, which is based on qemu is... How to put it mildly? Maybe not the best idea if you are security conscious.

    In the words of Theo De Raadt: "You are absolutely deluded, if not stupid, if you think that a worldwide collection of software engineers who can't write operating systems or applications without security holes, can then turn around and suddenly write virtualization layers without security holes."

    In other words, Bitcoin is finally getting the attention it deserves from security researchers. And, surprise! It's full of bugs!

    I would be tempted to say: "Film at 11" or even "told ya so", but the truth of the matter is, I have suspected for a long long time that Bitcoin was not as secure as its proponents have been saying all along.

    I am waiting for the price of bitcoin to fall pretty freaking fast, once everyone realizes hard-earned bitcoins can be stolen from thin air extremely easily, like they have been stolen in the past.

    I still think Bitcoin may yet be proven as the tulip craze of the 21st century. Some people will lose their shirts. Things never change (madness and wisdom of the crowds, yadda yadda yadda).

    And guess what?

    - If you can get High-Def versions, it's actually real cool.
    - If, during recess, you can swap all those episodes of your show for other shows that are also real cool, you make other people happy.
    - And, later, you realize you can relive a bit of your childhood for cheap, since you don't have to buy the DRM Digital version of that real good show you used to watch as a kid... for essentially $0.

    I am not worried about the kids -- I am more worried about the entertainment dealers, but the solution has been around for a long time: produce good stuff and slap a $2 per month tax on all internet access. Problem solved. But Hollywood is never going to go for it, they are just too greedy for their own good.

    Yes, Slackware does not have systemd. And, as far as I know, has no plans to integrate it in the future (which is one of the reasons I love it).

    On the other hand, OpenBSD systemd "shim" looks better every day, as it allows Gnome to work without systemd. Make of that what you will.

    France has really stringent gun control laws. That did not prevented Charlie Hebdo. That also did not prevented 11/13/2015 events in Paris.

    Has somebody noticed that tragedies in free gun zones occur not when people are not armed, but when the right to bear arms is limited. Because criminals do no care about zones.

    People forget that Syria was once a French colony. The Syrians have not forgotten that.

    Syria was mainly a Turkish territory up until the end of WWI, when it became a protectorate of the French III Republic, along with Lebanon. It became independent in 1946.

    Most Syrians actually do not resent the French that much. These acts of terrorism have nothing to do with that period of the history of Syria, but more with the war between the Syrian government and Islamic State.

  20. France participated in Operation Desert Storm aka "Operation_Daguet", which is probably reason enough for any jihadist. More recently with the large influx of North African Muslims there's been conflict with France's largely atheistic culture. See the Charlie Hebdo incident -- militant Islam lacks anything resembling either a sense of humor or respect for human rights.

    To the point, militant Islam really, really wants to be in charge, which makes pretty much everyone in the world either an immediate target or a future target. It's odd that you don't seem to recognize that.

    Except, of course that there has been surveys done of French Moslems (by the Pew Research Institute if memory serves well), that tend to prove they are the least radicalized and best integrated of all European Moslem communities.
