    The beginning of mutally assued destruction. AT&T licensed the technology it is being sued over from Microsoft, so Microsoft would directly suffer if AT&T lost. As far as I'm aware, this is the first time Microsoft has actually sued anyone for patent infringement and it is doing so for defensive reasons.

    That's sort of what we have at the moment with the ice caps on Antarctica, Greenland, Siberia, Northern Canada and so on. The problem is that global warming is causing them to melt.

    Looking at the recent terrorist attacks in Britain, I'm not so sure. The 7/7 attack was on three different Tube (Subway) trains and a bus. The targets were four tube trains, but the Northern Line was closed due to engineering problems that morning.

    They failed copycat 21/7 attack was also on three tubes and a bus. This time the bus was targeted directly.

    The failed Glasgow Airport attack took place outside the airport, and was targeting people who were waiting to go through security.

    Netscape was already dead 10 years ago. If you remember back that far, their amazing new feature in Sept 1999 was the shop button. The ability to load pages containing javascript without crashing was yet to come.

    If I had the option of telling the programmer of my application what to do, I'd tell him to ditch the serial number requirement altogether.

    I use the Caps Lock for entering software serial numbers where you get a long string of capital letters and numbers.

    If linux freezes, then Alt-SysRq-S+U+B will do an emergency sync of the disks, unmount them and reboot the system.

    A free market requires full information about the product to be available. So what you need is free market regulations, like in the EU. Here, products containing genetically modified material are required to be labelled as such, and that guarantees that nobody will buy it.

    If I climb onto the roof of my local shopping mall and stand next to the cell phone mast, maybe it will burn me, but down on the ground it certainly doesn't. I suppose it is about the same as having an electric heater element up on the roof of my shopping mall.

    The creature that spreads with no user interaction is called a worm. Not having any open external ports should stop them, but most internet router firewalls should stop them anyway.

    A virus does require user interaction, for example opening an email attachment, and that certainly will be possible, but sudo should help block most of them.

    Of course Linux is already more popular than Windows in the web server market. The malware situation on Windows isn't so bad since Windows 2003 was released, but before then Windows was certainly the most targeted platform, and it probably still is.

    I tried deleting it from the command line. That didn't work.

    Also, Win-R requires explorer to be running. That's why you need to do Ctrl-Alt-Del to get the task manager up.

    I think it means you can find the private key for a given public key.

    I did the following to recover from my crash:

    Press Ctrl-Alt-Del
    Load the task manager
    Run cmd
    Rename "GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}" to "folder"
    Then I can delete "folder" in Explorer as it no longer crashes

    Sun does own the IP, because it is the only company that is allowed to sell non-free copies of MySQL. MySQL's business model is to sell non-free copies to people who don't want to run OSS for whatever reason and use that money to pay for development, so this is very important, and why it isn't so easy to fork the project.

    I talk about Britain, then I talk about across the channel from Britain. The Atlantic is "the pond", the "channel" is the English Channel separating us from France. The frogs are what we call the French, for much the same reason that you call us Limeys. The French call us "les rosbifs" for similar reasons.
