What is more like the OP is saying is that the corporations like MS et al have to live within the system as it exists now, even if they want to change it. That means for their survival, they must patent and challenge other patents, since they actually make a product. I believe there is sense in this. I also happen to agree that these business method patents are ridiculous. I also believe that MS should have won this case, and I wouldn't be surprised if the SCOTUS split along party lines again.

What is productive age. Even if it is infrequent that someone say older than 80 comes up with a world shattering idea, is this a reason not to encourage everyone who is willing to make the effort? Your work should speak for itself with no consideration for age. I am assuming your source is a good one since it looks like you took some effort to dig it up... So it is a good thing that people didn't listen to Nobel's wishes too closely. The age part is ridiculous and discriminatory. Great discoveries are ageless. And now that people are living ever longer, in ever greater health, this applies even more.

  6. What flavour of Oracle? on What Cities Want Your IT Skills? · · Score: 1

It is interesting to see so much Oracle demand, but Oracle encompasses many areas now. The database, financials, etc. At one time if they listed Oracle, it meant they wanted either someone who was good at PL/SQL, maybe Oracle Forms, or as an Oracle DBA. But now that isn't the case any more. For example, around this area (Greater Toronto Area), if they ask about Oracle, they are talking more often than not about Oracle Financial applications. But the ads only list 'Oracle' as a requirement (HR people without a clue as to what they are asking for). But there are a ton of other Oracle apps. So the one number for Oracle they give in this survey is misleading.

Stupidity to me is more closely related to wisdom, or how you do or do not apply your intelligence. It is why we all can do stupid things. Trust me. I know. :D

The Fields Medal is not granted to anyone who has passed their 40th birthday. So a lot of great mathematicians who have done great work after this age, or whose work was not recognized until after they were 40 will not be / were not awarded. This is ridiculous. If you are going to recognize great work, age should not play a part. It is not right. It also means that the Fields Medal is not comparable to the Nobel Prize which does not discriminate based on age.

I'm guessing you would be happier if you could find a 'pure, untainted' language to speak. Why don't you try Esperanto? What would the founding fathers of the U.S.A. say about this? I'm not sure, but after they had their plantation foreman beat the slave that just tried to run away, fucked the housemaid slave and then sat on the porch to think about it, I'm sure they would agree that they like the fact that teabaggers are trying to get back to their value system.

But what is needed is to evict these people from their towers so they have to live in the real world; and then tear the towers down. The problem is that they make so much money, and their world is so insular that they don't have to join the real world, and they don't care to. They also are a self regulating industry. It needs to be disrupted so that it is changed into a justice system.

There is a thought that if you have a very large army you have to use it on external targets every now and then. Otherwise it will get bored and start flexing internally. Kind of like banana republics that have extensive (for their size) militaries but aren't quite big enough to safely fight anyone around them. Eventually they turn on themselves and the generals become presidents for life. Given that America spends more on their military than the rest of the world combined, they need to continually be fighting, or else the next white house will be the pentagon. The other option is to stop spending so much on the military so they can afford to take care of their own people without worrying about the budget ceiling all the time.

Sounds like NASA hedged their bets in case it fucked up right away. Which lead to thoughts of software project management. Kind of like how software project estimates should work. Give management an estimate that is more expensive and too long and then brag when you come in under time and budget. Of course now-a-days pointy haired fucktards and project managers out to make a name for themselves give estimates too short and cheap and then force too few people from overseas to work too many hours to get it done on time; and fuck it all up.
