A Cert in Common Sense will mean more to a good employer than a fancy piece of paper stating you are good at taking a test, of course demonstrating that you have common sense and experience in the field in which they need you will greatly depend on your references, there was a time that an A+ cert would get you in the door to almost anywhere with a good salary, but post.com tech industry there are fewer and fewer certs that aren't already saturated in the job pool, but a lot of those people have little to no real experience. Cisco certs are always good to have, but rightly difficult to obtain the higher tier you are shooting for, IIRC dell has a program where you can get help in getting certs that will help expand your knowledge base as long as they can utilize the skill set you wish to learn.
Might I ad it will point students in the right direction about OSS and also allow for more students to have experience with office software, and since they can get it for free they will be more likely to get it on their home computer as well so they are using the same working environment at home and school.
This would be somewhat similar to the pressures exerted onto a lump of coal to create diamons, every piece of matter has alot of airspace between its atoms, the great force created here is simply squeezing some of it out creating a denser object.
This sort of arguement arose when the Half-Life 2 source code was leaked, Although they do not beleive that it is right to feed the corperate machines with money they will never see profit from (such as a guy dl's photoshop because he just wants to play around with it but never make a profit with any work done on it) they do beleive that the source code of closed source material should stay that way as it is a direct attack on the complete work, one could say that while Joe Smhoe downloads the Windows Longhorn alpha and uses it on his box he is still not infringing on the hard work of the programmers and the money that m$ has spent to develope it because he will never buy it, he would have never bought it where as the source code is the direct reflection of the work of a programmer which will inevetably be reused by someone without their idea of moral direction. That photographer doesnt feel he should pay for something he wont profit from, now while the company may not like that and if they were to catch him would have every right to prosecute, the guy with the source code to that app is 1000x more dangerious because he can use it as he sees fit. Well enough of my rambling...
DNS is great in it's hierarchal nature- one can simply delagate domains to another server, which keeps what ever DNS is managing the root (like slashdot.org.) from getting overloaded with requests.
To bad the links posted to slashdot don't have that kind of protection....
