Is it possible to install SC + BW + patches and have everything working all without a windows partition? I don't think it would be but I'm just asking anyway. Thanks.

Theres a good chance I'm wrong but this doesn't seem to be a big deal. I'll admit it is very silly but it is only a trademark. I believe it just means that know one else can market their tennis ball as having the "Smell of Fresh Cut Grass". Other tennis ball companies could actually have balls that smell just like it. Trademarks just protect the consumer from being fooled into buying a different brand than they intended.

  7. Re:Maintenance? on Ham Radio Repeater On The Moon? · · Score: 1

The dark side of the moon is the part which always faces away from earth. The dark side and the light side never change so the device would never switch the dark side. The dark side gets light from the sun, we just can't see it. Your point is still valid though since the light side isn't always light.

In my opinion slashdot doesn't censor at all. All the moderation is done by the people, not by the slashdot operators. The pause between posts is to keep people from posting crap. Not archiving -1 posts is because -1 posts tend to not be good so why waste the disk space archiving them? If you want to read everything that is -1 just change your thresh hold to -1, then you can't claim anything is being censored.

Not really, those companies pretty much just bundle the stuff together. They do code some, but most of the stuff they just download from other places. Plus Red Hats get a ton of money from stocks so they don't actually have to make a profit. SuSE makes money because its very popular in Europe. Downloading in Europe can be very expensive and people would rather just buy the OS.

  18. Re:pay-to-play? on LucasArts Announces First Massive Multiplayer Game · · Score: 2

One of the main costs associated with these is bandwidth. In QuakeII, id has nothing to do with online play because people set up their own servers. Battle.net is just a match maker service, once the game is started you disconnect from battle.net and are connected directly to each other. In a massively multiplayer game like this, you're always connected to the main server along with 1000's of other people. That much bandwidth becomes very expensive for the company who runs the service.

  19. Re:Anti-trust on John Carmack on Coding a Linux IP Stack & Winmodem · · Score: 1
