Well, from my over thirty perspective I'll tell you this: at nineteen I thought I was a pretty hotshot programmer, but I didn't have anywhere near the focus or discipline that I have now: qualities that have allowed me to work independently from home making a decent living without worrying about a commute, "vacation" time or having a boss.
Being nineteen, talented and full of energy may lead to success (e.g. see Microsoft, Apple and id Software), but don't kid yourself: the majority of successes in business (including the tech world) are made by us "older" folks.
That may be true but the younger generation has a different advantage. They have the advantage of NOT knowing all the standard algorithms and methods of doing things. Their minds are not already set on the paradigm of knowing what is the best algorithm to accomplish such-and-such task. They take their own approach and sometimes end up with a less efficient solution or perhaps a more efficient solution that revolutionizes the way we tackle similar problems.
And another thing... I think anyone who does take the time to check the facts, probably has either a general interest in the subject or feels strongly one way or the other. Either way, I think if he did check the facts, he would have a little more pride in his work then the first article seems to indicate.
I tend to agree with the grandparent. The Internet is full of misinformation. I am very skeptical on most things I read on the Internet especially if I am unfamiliar with the domain. Anything you can do to add to your credibility helps.
So the first article is riddled with spelling and grammar errors and the second site is hosted on fortunecity, meaning any Joe Blow could have thrown it together and put it up.
This is one of the reasons linux is not mainstream. Packages need to be distributed as source as well as precompiled binaries for common archetectures, or at least the one it was written on.
I have seen a few high resolution models that look very nice. Unfortunately those run close to $1000. It's not worth it when you can get a high resolution CRT for about 20% of that.
The Swiss have historically held the official position of being neutral. If it was held in the US for example, I seriously doubt that delegates from Lybia or Iran would be allowed in the country to attend although I may be wrong. Anyway, it's held tehre to eliminate the host country's bias like that. Besides I think the UN hq is in Geneva.
It wasn't just localized around computer geeks. There were newspaper articles, magazine articles, spots on news. It got a lot of press. It was a semi-large thing that someone would live their life with a webcam recording their daily activities for the whole world to see. This was before weblogs, before "reality" telivision. It was a fairly new idea.
Well I don't get that from that statement. The part about it being "attributed" tom him and to a lesser extent that he considers it a "silly quotation." Leads me to believe that either he did not say that or at least he is saying he did not say it.
Exactly. The moon is much closer then mars. It will much more feasible to send a rescue mission if something does go wrong. Mars is a big step.
In the 60's the goal was to put a man on the moon. They didn't try to do that in the first mission. They put a man in space first, then took the next step. It's the same idea.
Build? We already have lines that go to those places (and most other major cities). Amtrak is waiting, they problem is that people don't use the service enough to expand the system.
They are viewed as as a novelty. Apparently there is a track from Chicago to Indianapolis. For a brief time they extended the route to Louisville. Everyone I know in Louisville that used the train did it for the novelty value of it.
Now when I was in the NY/Jersey area, we used trains all the time. It was easier and cheaper to do so. For most places in the country, it is still easier and more economical to drive yourself for short (several hunderd miles) distances then to buy a train ticked and have to rent a car when you get to your destination to get around. For long distances, with the current system, it is still faster to fly.
What are they made out of lead instead of silicon? So you added an extra 16 lbs to your computer? I hope you aren't planning on lugging it around anywhere.:)
Anyone know anything about this two-sun theory? I have never heard of this and it seems rather bizarre to me. I'm disappointed that the review doesn't say what the theory is.
Attacking off topic is generally much more effective in the public forum than actually debating your opponent.
That is so true, except if you have valid arguements which SCO is yet to produce.
Perhaps SCO has hired the formenr Iraqi Information Minister to write Darl's statements.
(For the life of me I can't think of a humorous satement concerning Infadels and the GPL or Constitution or whatever...)
Acronyms, Acronyms, Acronyms.... What do they all mean??????????????
I think there is a misunderstanding about my post here. I was quoting the parent before it was modded TROLL. The parent post read:
Re:Link to the Article by Dr. Robert M. Sauer?
And how much he got from Microsoft...
I can now see how my sarcasm was missed.
Perhaps you didn't catch the sarcasm. Check the parent to my post. I should have quoted it.
Because we all know that open source is perfect and anyone who says otherwise is from Microsoft...

As do many others.

Well apparently, not everyone does know that. Thankfully not everyone is as arrogant as you.

Except for the mullet, that sounds like Hunter S. Thompson!
Well he is from Kentucky.

Oh, but of course....

5. Because the Mooninites are really funny and he wants to meet them.
Just watch out for their laser. Jumping is useless.
Yeah, I think they did that in October. It was all over the news. Where were you?

I find it hard to believe that normal and balanced people fantize about grenades and handguns when they are angry.
. They were about eight pounds each
:)

Welcom Maglev, to Maglev. I am Maglev. Here on Maglev, all people, places and things are called Maglev..... ...maybe it was Marglarg instead...
