Why? A multi-party democracy can still produce strong governments. In my eyes, a two-party system is only one party away from being a single-party dictatorship, especially when the minority party is very weak; the current situation in the USA is a good example of this problem with two-party systems.

Read my post. I said why. I don't really understand your reasonings. I don't see how you can refer to either the democrat or republican party as a minority WRT elections which was what I was talking about. As the last election showed, the country is fairly evenly split among the two. If you are refering to the democrats as the minority party because the republicans control the presidency and congress, it's not like it's a huge majority or anything. Isn't it less the 5 seats? This is the first time in decades that the presidency and congress were not controled by opposing parties.

Either way, I fail to see your point. And what is this "current situation" that you feel is "a good example of this problem with two-party systems?"

That's something that has turned me off with bush as well as almost all politicians. They won't admit that they might be wrong. If they do admit that they are wrong or flip sides on an issue they will be attacked in the next election as wishy-washy or inconsistant.

But just because it allowed Dean to expand his base of support much more rapidly and widely than was ever possible before, that does not automatically mean the death of organized politics and our two-party system.

I sure hope it doesn't mean the death of the two party system. With all the outrage about Bush getting the electorial majority and not the popular majority in the last election, imagine what would happen if there were 10 parties and the winner received only 20% of the electoral or popular vote.

Thank you. After scrolling down halfway though the threads, I finally find a series of posts by people who can actually think for theirself instead of spewing out the usual microsoft propeganda found on slashdot.

Lindows is a similar product that is made to sound and act like windows. The backlash would be huge if Microsoft's new UI for Longhorn was called Nome and looked exactly like Gnome. The slashdot/linux community accuses microsoft all the time of not being inovative and ripping off other operating system's features, but it's ok for a linux distro to do so.

I am no microsoft fan but I try to be objective. Your post deserves some mod points.

If you are solid in the principles of programming, the choice of language shouldn't matter. They will never be able to teach you every language out there. I think it would be much better to have an intro to different languages instead. Perhaps they do; don't really know. I don't think that this is a wasted course or anything. Any additional experience is great. Is this meant as a introduction to GUIs? If that is the case, I'm all for it. Otherwise, I think there would be more benefitial courses in the long run.

Actually to be fair, you don't run as the administrator account in XP by default. You are a Power User by default. There is an "Administrator" account that has more access. There's not a whole lot of difference in the two from what I can tell.

But having a XP Pro machine and a OSX 10.3 machine as well, I don't see where there is a whole lot of difference between the two default users. Both windows and mac defaults can install applications, neither can view the files of others by default and both can make system settings changes. I seem to remember that the OSX machine prompts for a password before making the changes though. That's a definite advantage.

I am probably in the minority here but I think they are both good OSs. No OS is perfectly secure. XP is reasonably stable on good hardware and OSX is more so because it is guaranteed to have good hardware. Both are good but both have their flaws.
