It's purely psychological. Dogs are traditionally "Man's Best Friend." Most people grow up close to and loving dogs. Eating a type of animal that you have been close to is a real turnoff. Many vegetarians extend this to all animals.

It's not too far fetched to extend your argument to eating humans, although there is the same species thing. Humans are animals after all.

How delightful that PCWorld has chosen to make things nice and easy to read for any small children who might happen to accidentally read this article! It's a pity that actual facts and content had to be discarded to make this possible.

This is one of the main functions of the internet; to promote ignorance. It is difficult to find reviews of two OSs or archetectures (much less slashdot posts) that are unbiased and do not distort the facts in some way or another. The articles/posts are there to promote the authors agenda.

This has never been more evident then in this thread.

That may be so but most of the people who are going to take the time to review an OS that they are not used to are going to come in with a bias. They aren't going to like the new OS because of features that are missing from the other OS or most likely they jsut can't find.

The real test would be to convince someone to completely switch for a reasonable period of time, say one year. Have that person make the effort to learn the new OS enough to be proficient at using and customizing it and then have that person give a review. You would probably get an objective review then.

Now I imagine that the people working on iTunes for Windows and QT for Windows aren't just working on a straight port, but also a better (and more compatible) port of the Carbon libraries for Windows. I don't claim to have any inside information on this. But it seems likely that a lot of the code for iTunes for Windows will be the same as the Mac version. Further porting the underlying library will make other ports easier.

Very astute. I think that makes a lot of sense. Perhaps a bundled suite of all the i-apps is in the future for windows users. Microsoft put office on Mac; Apple puts the i-suite on windows, for a price of course.

On top of that, I drop coins all teh time. I don't want to drop a $10 coin in a crowded subway or try to pull out a $1 coin for the coke machine and have a $10 roll under the machine.

Paper money is lighter, and more convenient.

I see no reason to switch to coins simply because a coin will last 20 years while a bill will only last 18 months (which I expect is an exaggerated figure.)
