If you don't want to pay for licensing, stop paying MS. Rambus will continue to make IP for the computer field and companies will continue to try to steal it. Rambus will continue to attempt for over 6 years to convince OEM to pay for the IP before suing them.
Why do many of you think that every other company in the industry can make you license their IP but Rambus, who Intel wanted to steal their IP for the price fixing memory cartel, is wrong for licensing theirs?
Why does this feel like MS is about to steal some other companies software and everyones digital media they produce? The video sounded like a MS Labs commercial or marketing an excuse for stealing before public out cry. Expect some EULA that says all our digital media belongs to MS but we can buy a license for it.
A simple closet is plenty of space, but it should have a special lock. About 3 feet from the back wall goes the rack. The top 1/4 is for patch (about 600) and bength that the switches. The bottom half starts with any fiber equip from your telecom, then routers. I like to keep servers (blade center) above the floor and put any specialized blades (security) nearest the floor.
Next to the rack goes the PBX and above it on the side wall go your phone punch down block. 4x3' should be enough for about a 1000 phones. Next to it have your building secuirty and fire panels. Make sure you have 3" pipe running to your demarkation point with a fish line to pull. You'll need several 3' pipe to bring the cable in from the building and if you have the money install steel grate over the ceiling panels for security. Do not place AC vents over the electronics. It's nice to have an outside line in the room for any serivce techs to modem in patches they need. I beliieve in curcuit protecting (UPS filtering) a buldings entire electrical supply so expect a larger room for the UPS, but that was true even with mini-mains. Let me add that it is extremely inexpensive, much less than mix and match boxes, when done correctly. Watch out for the same wolves that sold you Y2K, web presence, convergence, AD over NW, to tell you it has to be much more expensive.
Her TA pays for the whole $40,000 year of grad school and $8,000. You need a Masters in History to teach history in college. It's cheaper than her coming home.
I 1st played multi-player sports with the 3DO, FIFA and 6 controllers (daisy chained). Later the DC with it's built in modem, Madden 2K and a CS class tournament. Madden allows you to creats players now and you can create a player that is your size and ability. Then play the AI (not very good) with your team (family, friends...) on the same team.
Right on. I worked for AT&T broadband and running and ISP is a piece of cake. They got into it by buying @Home from a bankruptcy, cheap. Dealing with thousands of poor service cable companies was impossible. During the late 90's I installed thousands of miles of fiber that is still dark today. Most of it was from HQs to telecom switches for T1s.
The other two are only in the console market to destroy it, and replace consoles with laptops (Sony) or tablets (MS). MS uses it's presence to skirt anti-trust law and buy game developers to put the programmers out of work. MS programs to put IT workers out of work is why there are over 100,000 FOSS projects.
Nintendo got it right. When the other 2 got in the HD DVD war, Nintendo realized that illegal dumping had nothing to do with gaming.
Nintendo continued to focus on game play. Nintendo continues to port their franchise library to mobile.
I'm not faulting the other 2. A $600 blu-ray PS3 when Sony is selling blu-ray players for $1000 is value.
This is one of the most important jobs in IT. Wolves (salesmen) will constantly attack an IT budget with $30,000 servers that only cost $3000. If IT rests even a month they will find that management will have wasted their budgets losing a hole to wolves on the golf course. I've personally seen over 25 times companies I've worked for throw over a million dollars down the hole in less than a month. Once I was out of a job when the wolve told management that their new PCs did not need admin while I was on vacation. That lie lasted about 2 weeks (during install), and then the wolves refused to answer the companies calls. The company spent over a million the next year trying to get their IT department up and running again. A decade later they are still struggling to try to get back where they were 10 years ago.
I read this as: 1. Vista is delayed waiting for HDCP from Intel 2. MS trying again to create their version OSS and sell it as OSS 3. MS trying again to partner with linux distros to destroy them from the inside (many examples) 4. MS trying again to refuse to open APIs.
Passwords should not be considered security, but as authentication to resources. Network security should be applied by the admin through rights. If you are concerned with the security of your passwords, admin should use a password management system and encrypt. Two part authentication can be considered security and USB flash drives are cheap. You then could use something you know and something you have. I have used the same 6 letter admin password for about 20 years. It was stolen once by a student looking over my shoulder. I caught him within a half hour of trying to use it and had the logs to prove it and everything (nothing, looked around) which he had done. I had him pulled out of class by security. I have set up passwords by department (in specific situations) where whole departments used the same passwords, but employees only used "their" PCs and accessed the same accounting information. Using static ips and logs you can tell what each user in doing.
Get involved with your LUG. If you get involved you may find they are involved in many projects in your community. They may be involved in FOSS projects, network installations... They will have an email list where you can ask any question you and should give you near instant responce. The LUG in my area is run by the Univerity professors that teach linux. IBM has online stuff on getting your LPI. http://www-128.ibm.com/developerworks/linux/lpi/ I think you can take the exams online for free as well. Frozentech's Live CD site is a great place to dl distros and give them a test. You may want to think about what you want to do with the distro (ie clustering) and then find a distro to test and see if it fits your needs.
Linux allows us an alternative to the OEM installed OS. FOSS gives us choice. Why would a company, that has copied for the last 15 years Mac OS, fight an open source of ideas to copy?
I find physical contact relieves stress. Many people get involved in pugilistic sports to calm themselves. The better trained you are, the more control you have and you should cause less injuries. When practicing Judo or Hap Ki Do, instructors demand control so that students are not injured. Someone who causes injury will find they have no one who will spar with them. When practicing Kendo, Arnis or Floro, we use 1/4" PVC covered in pipe insulation or flexible rubber. Even without head gear, a hit doesn't hurt even younger children. A black belt is defined by calm and confidence, and the theme of Hap Ki Do is by combining our strengths, we succeed.
North Carolina has a lake with NC, NC State and Duke around it. Glasgow, Scottland was hot just a few years ago. When NC textile industry fell due to China, the research triangle created new fabrics to put NC back in the market.
Many compaints about GIMP were that the interface did not exactly match Photoshop. They even made one that did, but most FOSS users revert to using the native skin in about 2 days. So, what do you think about GIMP?
FOSS is intended to survive against the monopoly. FOSS is about choice. FOSS shows the monopoly chose to attack charitable projects. FOSS allows the user to compare products.
