Since Palm already includes has a Java machine environment, why not simply install as java ogg player
The processor in that bad boy is based on Intel's ARM derivative. It uses more power when it's doing more work, and uses virtually no power when idle.
Java has HUGE amounts of overhead, especially for the kind of math you'd do for a stream decode. You probably wouldn't manage an hour of battery life using a Java-based Ogg player.
Could the slash editors post these stories in a larger font on the
lynx & mobile devices page format? I'm reading these on a ten year old
Palm Pilot, and it's hard to read the tiny fonts when it's dark. I had
to hold down the power button for three seconds to turn on the
backlight so I could read this.
While you're on about this, you might also ask why the painting of the
four rasta musicians used in the Lindows Rock video
isn't credited.
I also see what I recognize as a stock Associated
Press photo of Bill Gates, and I wouldn't be surprised if the other
photos were borrowed without credit (or payment) as well.
The amazing thing here is this: In reaffiming their commitment to freedom, they are finding that they have to exclude some GNU documentation because it is considered non-free. In other words, Debian now seems to value free software more than the Free Software Foundation.
You might remember that RMS endorsed another distribution over Debian earlier this year because it was pretty much a fork of Debain without the non-free section. (Later it was revealed that the distribution had merely merged non-free back into contrib.)
This seems a nice "back atcha" while RMS is still combing the egg out of his beard.:)
People are circumventing the almighty GPL! Is/. going to complain and be hypocritical by cheering on other circumventing techniques like PlayFair, DeCSS, and other DRM removers?
Well, yes. For one, I'm cheering. I love a delicious little tech war like this one. Eventually the courts will settle it, but until then it's a wonderful tool for inflating stock price. You can live sufficiently high on the hog that it's worth it when you later end up in jail, because they'll never wipe that grin off your face.
Getting your copy of Photoshop off Kazaa doesn't make it "100% free software"
The winning entry was touched up with Photoshop LE, which is included free with many tablets and digital cameras, and WINE was used instead of Windows.
We do not copy software illegally as this would defeat our whole movement, and we definitely don7t use any non-free software.
Did the OOo people do a bit of dressing up on this logo? I mean, at the very least it's obvious that the coloring was done with a computer.
Yes. The shading was reworked with Adobe Photoshop running under WINE because we wanted to show that professional quality could be accomplished using 100% free software.
I'm glad people are getting a kick out of this. I really enjoyed
orchestrating the competition (I do more than troll Slash, you know),
and Andrea and the other candidates did a bang-up job. We couldn't be
more proud.

Also, a minor point of clarification regarding Timothy and
Elektroschock's write up -- this is not a mascot for OOo. This is a
mascot for OooEdu, the new Schools Project of Open Office.org. Please,
read the attached article to learn about what the OOoEdu aims to do,
and how you can help. We're an active and devoted community, and there
are things you can do to further OOo's acceptance in schools, even if
you can't contribute a line of code!
Flute abuse - sleepz is hitting the flute twice in a row, before the first whirlwind gets to them. Looks like this is still getting them to the same spot. Nice trick though:)
I noticed him doing that, but thought it was a mistake. What does the double flute accomplish?

Sealand pretty much gives up customer lists on request specifically because they don't want their tenuous claim of independence to be tested. So you're not anonymous, and if your actions are illegal in the country where you are, not your server, you're sunk.
This ofcourse makes people much more willing to go buy iPod's which is apple's real revenue stream.
Unless things have changed in the last few months, Apple was not making money on the iPod or the music store.
I believe Apple are pretty much trying to buy the leading position by making it impossible to compete so that later they can find a way to make money with the market they hope to corner. This isn't much different than what happened with all the DSL providers in the last few years.
I remember that one of EA's dislikes about Xbox Live was the payment system. What have they worked out here?
MS agreed to can their own sports titles for a year in exchange for EA making the Xbox titles match the PS2 titles feature for feature. The PS2 titles being the better titles for EA's *massive* sports franchise has hurt Xbox sales considerably. This will rectify that.
Never thought you'd see a company that could make MS cry uncle, did ya.
"Actually, they never licensed the Wolfenstien engine. id was planning to take them to court, but the bad publicity that would ensue made them change their minds so Wisdom Tree got the engine for free."
It's a delicious rumor, but do you have a source for it?
Well-made? Do Christians use different standards of judging craft than non-Christians? Asked another way, have you ever tried to read any of the Tim Lahaye books? If you seriously consider any of the books in the 'Left Behind' series to be well-made, that I can't wait to see some of the games that come out of this conference.
The books are pretty horrible. The movies are considerably better. Not top shelf stuff, but better than most TV specials.
That said, pretty much every Christian movie that does well deals with the rapture. I'm not sure how many movies and games you can make out of that...
The Passion pretty much did well because somebody finally managed to get a snuff film into the theaters. It was dead boring apart from that.
That was absolutely the best ever game to license the Wolfenstein engine. Fire apples at sheep to make them so hungry they sleep. Peace on the ark, but I'm not sure what this taught me about Jesus.

Niiiiiiiice :)
I have to watch it. Too many fr1st p0sts leads to too much trouble farther down the line.
Oh, wait...
The AP photo is stolen, however. I just didn't think that would be enough to get me moderated up on its own.

Or that's my experience at least.

He's a little slow, ladies and gentlemen. Give him a little more time. He'll get it eventually...
Miguel, what do you envision as the channel for getting Windows users to adopt Avalon? A default install is pretty hard to compete with.

...there's got to be a joke in here. Something about being delivered on the third day...
*ding dong!* "We're sorry. Your second pie's on us." "Pizza pizza!"

I bet you're this fun at parties, too.
