What you call American English is a derivate and simplified version of British English.
I disagree with the simplified portion of your statement. Language is language; it's as simple or complex as the ideas it's being used to convey. British English as it stands today is a derivative of the language that was a common root of both American and (modern) British dialects. American English took up influences from a huge number of non-English speaking immigrants making it a rich, expressive and complex dialect while British English being somewhat more conservative kept it's grammatical structure more rigid and relied on word play and other such devices to give it it's own unique expressiveness.
Saying one language is better than another or one dialect is more complex is a thinly disguised attempt to imply one is superior and the other inferior. I can understand your annoyance with the parent post but you should realize both Europe and the united states have their share of self-important swine.
neutonian physics discribes the movement of the planets with less acuracy than relitity. relitivity will discribe the movement of the planets less acuratly (hopefully) than a quantum theory of gravity if it is ever derived. all three are theoretical models of the same thing. your egyptian builders used a less exact model was it based on manipulateing symbols?
they are derived from a slightly diferent set of posutlates just like euclidian and non euclidian geomatries are based on diferent postulates. one wouldn't argue that euclidian and noneuclidian geometrys are not forms of geometry or that geometry is not a type of mathmatics.
Isn't more along the lines Reality != Perception or reality is that upon which perception wishes to act. if i could be so bold as to breifly antropamorphise something so inanimate as human perception. Of course conceptualy perception presumes that there is something to be percieved ie. perseption as a linguistic construct presuposes reality.
"Well I got news for you: most of you also said Einstein was full of it and then said the same of Heisenberg. Just look under your fingers to see the proof [of] these guys' theories at work."
Really, Einstein invented the qwerty keyboard too? there's just nothing that guy can't do.
my project lead wrote a small program recently to handle inventory at grocerie stores. he has preorder sales in excess of 10,000 dollars a friend of his is marketing it. big round of aplause. if there was ever a time to be outraged by the actions of a government official this is it. I just hope the next president has the skills to dig us out of the hole little bush dug.
The treatment of arab jews in Israel suggests that the Globe may be correct on at least one of those points.
Of course the idea of a religious state is kind of repugnant anyway and should should be examined more closely in light of the facts that arguably* the most well armed religious state in the world is turning that military upon a civilian population who are unlucky enough to be of a diferent faith. call me troal but seems like more often than not religion is used as a justification of violance.
*some people seem to thin the united states is a religious state
they are not talking about selling a sh**load of computors they are talking about having a sh**load of computers siting in a server room somewhere and selling access to those computors to people who have large proccessing tasks to do but who don't need that kind of processing power all the time.
The American rebel was never anything more than a minor amusement for the bovine masses. A naughty little pleasure permited to a domesticated populace.
I wouldn't worry too much about Anonymous Coward's argument it's true that the cheapest foods are the most fatening and that haveing nowhere to go worth going tends to lead people to go nowhere. cheap sustanance foods don't have the sort of nutritional value that better more expencive foods do produce is a luxury for somone makeing 15,000 a year so is fish.
What this author is really doing is digging up some nitpicks and embellishing them as signs of the end.
That's not what I read in that artacle at all looks like his goal was to point out areas where the OSS movement could improve. a valid and usefull form of introspection.
you and the author of the second part of the artacle both have a point in regard to public debate but the purpose of this type of criticism is to expand on the negative aspects of a situation by exagerateing the scale of the problem it can be more closely examined.
There is nothing that could be done to make Bush even a plausibly mediocre leader so no that's not what I'm suggesting. What I'm saying is that the actions he took, as leader of the United States, were not guided by what was a reasonable and workable course of action given the situation.

I don't know about the previous poster but I personaly would never imply that republicans have any level of integrity and honesty.
