The kernel developers aren't complaining you are. they are asking for suggestions on devices that they can continue work on. there are plenty of these devices they just want to get an idea what is in most demand so they can prioritize printers are off of the table because there is already a group focused on that. kernel developers are not cups developers for the same reason barbers no longer pull teeth both professions are complex enough to require specialization. this really isn't something that an end user should be too concerned with though since for the most part lobbying your distribution would be the most logical step to gain support for not currently supported devices.
allow devs to drop into one of these things and we could have software that would normally take months to build developed in mere minutes!
the only problem is that in subjective time for the devs compile time would take decades. Slashdot would get the beating of a lifetime as all of these bored devs write years worth of posts in a matter of seconds.
though it was under Reagan that manufacturing jobs started moving over seas. middle America was thriving Reagan hits the white house and we become a nation of fast food workers and middle managers. the only good thing i could say about Reagan was he had sense enough to pull back from "Reaganomics" before it got completely out of control.
my wife asked me if i wanted an iphone and i decided against it based on apple's continuing efforts to lock down and control the platform. I have a friend who came to the same conclusion for the same reason. I'd rather wait for open moko to mature than spend $500 for a machine that despite the sales receipt still belongs to apple.
if your going to make a biological comparison to corporate interests in patent law a butterfly isn't the most appropriate. perhaps something in the infectious disease category, anthrax, tuberculoses maybe Ebola, would be more fitting. cells pick up changes to their genetic makeup all of the time in a process that is not strictly speaking evolutionary. viruses, exposure to mutagens and radiation can all cause localized genetic changes those cells either repair themselves or are destroyed by the body to protect the entire organism. sometimes they lead to cancer and must be removed surgically. mutation is no more evolution than melanoma is an advanced form of human being. mutation can lead to evolution over the course of eons assuming a non zero failure rate. the bit about "you keep what you get in the end" is inconsistent with a continuing evolutionary process attrition is essential.
yeah, but we don't have to like companies that take but don't give back. nor are we required to do business with them or to even speak well of them. Quite honestly the open source community owes nothing to companies like tomtom. It seems perfectly in line with community interests to trash companies who take but don't give back and to hold companies that do give back up as shining examples.
there is basically no such thing as bankruptcy in the US for private citizens for the most part only corporations and businesses can enjoy bankruptcy protections. that one was taken away a couple of years ago pretty much unnoticed.
an additional benefit to video is pause, rewind and fast forward it's then possible to work the problem out ahead of the instructor and check your steps even at the very beginnings of learning a new subject skip past the repetitive bits go back to relearn something that's unclear and and generally have the benifits of instruction as one of multiple learning methods while gaining the reference ability of a book.
How can you not understand it's better the police shoot 1000 innocent people than to allow a terrorist to harm anyone... no wait that doesn't make any sense, forget i said that.
trying to understand what you mean by this: Jesus, the way we treat voting these days is an amazing DIShonor to our history. And I'm talking about the system as we've redesigned it, not the voter turnout and such.
are you referring to the two party system, the PACs and interest groups, the money and corruption?
I'm not advocating making anything easy but possible. timing election cycles to coincide with existing holidays is not a drain on society, nor does erecting artificial barriers to entry guarantee voters will be educated on the issues. often privilege leads to a somewhat insular mindset meaning people are unaware of the scope of a problem or possibly of it's existence because they are not directly affected. for example someone making 15 million a year running a corporation is not likely to be aware of the issues regarding mine safety nor would they be aware of the way disease spreads through a population but they will have an unimpeded opportunity to vote for a candidate who does have, stated or unstated, an agenda which likely includes these two issues.
Now, Microsoft's business is not to control the platform per se, but in fact to allow it to be exploited by the world's developers
Talk about success windows is now exploited by developers around the world. heck you can hardly browse the internet without running across some new and exciting Microsoft exploit.
nitrogen fixing plants are only providing favorable conditions for bacteria that actually perform the work of fixing atmospheric nitrogen in the soil. planting clover or peanuts along with the "weeds" and avoiding tilling would be much better. since it's not a food crop and additional biomass finding it's way into the processing plants would make little difference a mono culture is not necessary.
people living close to the poverty line are unlikely to have jobs that provide vacation time or personal time and just showing up late may cost them their job or have a cascading effect on their ability to pay their bills.
seriously we have some pointless holidays here in the US why not make one that has a purpose other than increasing retail sales. Or alternatively move the elections to July 4th then we have a reason to act patriotic. it would honor our history more than burning hot dogs ever could.
The money is in customization and the original developers have a edge in the market. there is also a effect on successful projects of amplification of effort. i know plenty of people making money off of gpl'd software.

I knew I should have shown him Electro-Gonorrhea, The Noisy Killer

i challenge your patent on the grounds that verbal answers have been no click for millennia.

anthropomorphism is an expression of vanity.
correction that should be "All your base pairs are belong to us"

sorry, this is abuse arguments are down the hall.

this reminds me of 2010.
All these phones are yours except iPhone. Attempt no landings there.

It's formulaic joke from the 80's it's Slashdot what do you expect?

Not quite the same time period but Paranoia definitely fit the beer and pretzel bill wile maintaining geek cred.
there's always lock bumping which is trivial. plenty of info out there if you look.

Well at least we can all agree on a pint... even if we then argue about it's volume.
