  1. This is our only chance to fight evil! on Human Hibernation on the Horizon? · · Score: 1

It's all been written, it's all been told, that we'll have a hard fight during reckoning. I've seen it in Microsoft't "Age Of Mythology", and I think our only chance to win, is to save our best commander for the future.

I think you all appreciate what George W. Bush is doing with terrorism while being president of U.S. of A. My proposal is - to hybernate him till reckoning, to have a brilliant fighter against the forces (and axis) of evil at the right time and place.

  5. Duchovny is a nice surname on Duchovny Says X-Files Sequel in Works · · Score: 1

... which means "Spiritual" in russian. Did his parents came from that region, like, for example, parents of Isaac Asimov? They also share the origin of names - both names are jewish. And answering to question, asked in this thread before - yes, they have much to add to X-Files. For example, why not to get some idea from british serial "Bugs", like evil computer AI or something :) You see, if Kasparov lost to AI, why not to send The Best FBI Agent Ever to destroy that evil?

  6. 25000 of polish elite? :)) on A New Elena Story · · Score: 1

Look, there are more factual errors in your post, then in the previous, that you are trying to correct.

I believe Poland never has 25 000 people as their intellectual elite. Soviets killed a few thousands of polish soldiers there. That is - captured soldiers, not scientists. If Poland would have so much intellectual elite, they wouldn't loose a war within 2 weeks.

Oh my God... How long will it take to reply to every american out there, that Chernobyl is located not in Russia, not in Belarus, but in Ukraine! Look, Ukraine is a big country, it has nuclear weapons, just look at your map! It is really amazing, seems for you the Europe is a Tolkien's world with all it's fairy maps. So, once again, the Chernobyl is in Ukraine, and not in Mordor.

  8. Learn some geography please on A New Elena Story · · Score: 1

Sorry, but this is absolute bullshit.
First of all, Chernobyl is not in Russia. The name of the country is Ukraine. If you don't know it, probably you are american.

I think you read too much yellow papers.

  9. Microwave - friendly CDs? on New Blu-ray Disc to be Made of Corn · · Score: 1
I have a feeling, that nothing good can happen from putting these CDs into microwave oven. Look, how author himself describe the process:

"I've often thrown away a CD and wondered ..."
"Now I wonder ... if YOU put one in the microwave..."

Author doesn't want to put that CD into his microwave, he offers that to you, and this is a clear warning sign, so I wouldn't recommend such experiment, no matter how geeky you are.
  10. Have you read it?.. on Russian Denies Writing SoBig Worm · · Score: 1

"Ibragimov, 30, said no one from the FBI or any other law enforcement agency has ever contacted him about the SoBig worm." I wonder how FBI officers would contact Russian citizen in Russia :) No, imagine, that FSB (ex. KGB), or any other Russian secret service officer will knock your door in the middle of American Nowhere. In reality, if you want this guy to pay for his sins, write about this event to fsb@fsb.ru (the address is real, don't "test" it!), I guess after some requests they will consider talking to this Ruslan Ibragimov. By the way, his name and surname shows, that he is most likely not Russian. It looks like he belongs to Chechen or other Caucasus nation, so the talk with FSB officer is not going to be gentle. And another thing - he is using the swreg.org registrar for his spamware. No matter if he is author of SoBig or not, you can ignore this registrar (whether you are developer or customer, doesn't matter), so they will not earn money on spam.

  11. A few magic words on The Urban Geek As A Mugger Magnet? · · Score: 1

If a muggler will stop you at the street, with a knife or gun, smile at him, put your hand into your pocket, try to stay as close to muggler as possible, and whisper to his ear: "Allah ackbar! Before we go, I will tell you about the paradise. You will see it now, but don't be afraid...". I think that would work with an american muggler, just show more joy in your voice :)

Also, having a rubber naturalistic grenade in a pocket might ensure muggler is thinking in a right way.

  12. How I did this on Large-Scale Paper-To-Digital Conversion? · · Score: 1

First of all, did you said HANDWRITING? If so, do you expect documents to be just a pictures, not recognized text? Anyway, you will need a printer with ADF (automatic document feeder). If you want a recognition of printed text, you can use FineReader - highly recommended Russian OCR. Handwriting may be saved as PDF, or, if size matters, TIFF (group 4, if I remember right, black-white tiff, that uses about 30kb per page). Concerning the automatic scanning, you could use that feature in FineReader, or, search the internet for such free utility. It is a matter of an hour to write such utility for this special purpose. In my case I did everything with HP ("AllInOne") SJ 3300 with ADF and FineReader 7. Just reload the tray with new papers time after time (with high precision it takes about one page per minute). Seems like your professor want's to buy a horse for a hamster price, as such printer and ADF and software costs more then $300, maybe 3 times more.

There is a CD with very nice TV and FM receiver, all cards are equipped with remote control. This is a very good card, probably the best you can find, and I advise it very much.

I've read about this idea in old soviet magazine "young technician". Maybe in the end of 80s or like that. There was a picture of a car with futuristic design and wheels, which are it's engine. Electrical engine. And everything was looking quite safe and logical. I think this idea worth trying.
