I believe the Genesis SF2 (Street Fighter 2 Special Championship Edition) is the superior version. The gameplay felt closer to the arcade version - there were more frames of animation, and it had more 'polish' than the SNES counterpart (SF2:Turbo Edition). Of course, you had to have the 6-button controller to really appreciate it.
Also, the music was A LOT closer to the arcade version than the re-done SNES music (which sounded horrible). The only thing that it was inferior on was the voices - they were lifted straight from the arcade version, but they were a little 'raspy'
I'm amazed at how much effort was put in to the believability of the world. The quests you do are actually meaningful - at least the FedEx-related quests are framed in a meaningful way.
I'm a level 14 priest right now, and there has been no grinding so far. I'm also amazed at the extent of solo'ing you can do, even as a priest. I thought I'd just be a lowly healer, but I can open a pretty good can of whoop-ass myself:)
An interesting note is my fiance got into the game before I did, and she was instantly hooked. Bought another account so we could play together - so no "appeasing the g/f" factor for me to worry about:)
I have a friend who was in the beta. The things that turned me off are:
- TIE Fighters are pretty durable - they can take more than a few hits
- Because of the way the PvP system works, rebel starships (X-wings, A-wings, etc) and imperial starships (TIE fighters) can encounter each other without being hostile to each other - which is wierd given that it is the Star Wars universe...
- No control of the deflector shield system - you can't route all power to the front/rear shields as you can in X-Wing/TIE Fighter series of games - it's a feature that's also mentioned in the movies.
I remember getting a rush in BCW by using a dagger to silently backstab someone, and to hear their blood-curdling scream (not heard by the other guards, of course),
There was even AI back then - if you point a dagger to a desk clerk, he gets out of his desk and tries to shoot you - he basically said, "You don't bring a knife to a gunfight"
Try it out on the recompiled game:)
Dragon Quest VI is clearly the worst of the series.
Dragon Quest III and IV are the best ones, but its clunky english translations prevent it from being recognized - the transaltions sucked the life out of the original Japanese dialogue.
