    The thing is - YOUR privacy is going to die anyway. I think the current fight for privacy is doomed (though it's still a good fight to fight).

    So why not at least try to enforce transparency on people with power? It might even succeed in the long run.

    On the contrary, Pthreads, Java threads and .NET threads are mostly the same thing in different packages.

    There are _really_ different ways to implement multithreading: fork-join model, pi-calculus, STM, message-passing model, etc.

    What are 'better options'? We have one more world currency - euro. And while it seems to be more stable than dollar right now, there's no guarantee that it won't go belly-up in a few years.

    Also, I lived through several economic crises. It's NOT fun.

    A lot of things are tied to the dollar. And a lot of countries store their reserves in dollar or in some forms of US securities.

    And it's not possible to trade _only_ in euro. There's just not enough of it.

    You see, if you now let your banks go bankrupt then it's going to devalue the dollar.

    A lot. Like 3-5 times.

    And that will put the end to dollar as a world currency. Oil won't be traded in dollars any more. Food won't be traded in dollars anymore.

    And that's *BAD* for the whole world.

    When was initrd _compiled_ _in_ the kernel???

    Initrd is separate from kernel, it's a cramfs image (which takes time to decompress) and is loaded by a bootloader.

    So? I used to run all-static kernels for 10 years, until I got tired of compiling my own kernels and switched to distro-provided kernels.

    The article says that you can compile-in drivers for about 95% of commonly used devices and put the rest of them on small initrd.

    Without SSD you can get abot 10 seconds for boot. Proably less, considering that you can optimize file layout and read everything in one big request.

    I own a company, so I backup a lot of other important data along with my e-mail.

    But it's not really hard to do, it takes about 2 hrs each year.

    You can backup your mail from GMail using IMAP (or POP3 earlier).

    I do this about once a year and store backups on archive-quality DVDs in my nearby bank :)

    Why not?

    You pay RealNetworks for service - 'easy' backups of DVDs. I don't see anything inherently wrong with that.

    Of course, $20 for simple DRM-laden DVD copying software is $300 too many for me, but that's my personal opinion.

    Wrong. KGB has been substituted by FSK (Federalnaya Sluzhba Kontrrazvedki - Federal Service of Counter-Intelligence) on 1991 (right after the USSR collapse).

    In 1995 it was again renamed and reformed (this time it was called 'FSB').

    It's a pretty much work. A lot of 'obvious' English sentences translate to bulky code for proof verifier.

    Abortifacient drugs have only been available from the pharmacy in the last few years - WRONG!

    Birth control pills are available for about 40 years now.

    Oh, you're wrong. Some brands of Orthodox Christianity (now almost extinct) in Russia forbid injections.
