I wonder how useful such robots actually were. Considering that today, engineers are still trying to overcome basic challenges associated with things we take for granted such as walking, I doubt that these robots were at all practical.
On another note, its quite impressive that these were developed (assuming their ligitimate), considering the level of technology available at the time.
I hate to sound like a privacy activist, but i would feel somewhat uncomfortable having my face scanned *anywhere*. Maybe, instead of trying to create things to stop known offenders, we should focus more on preventing the offences, through education and rehabilitation. Not to flame, but if the US government spent more of its budget on the countries own welfare, instead of destroying other countries, it may prove a more worthy cause.
Fortune called the US $20 bill a product of the year. I think this is kinda silly, especially considering in Canada we've had unique money for several years now. Our money is more advanced, including a no-two-bills-the-same idea (which can be seen when held under UV light). Our $10 and $5 bills are like this. Sure, it may be an american magazine, but i still think that the note is not very special.
A city wide wi-fi deployment would be great. I live in Calgary, Alberta, and the city has promised full wi-fi coverage for the downtown core, but having wi-fi for the entire city would be great. I wonder how much it would cost to implement such a thing?
On another note, could open, free-to-use networks such as this become targets of wardriving and such things? I know that here in Canada there are specific laws which make that illegal.
I've had some experience with motorcycles, and it sounds to me like this would just be a distraction. It may be real neato and stuff, but in a practical sense it may be a safety concern. Putting the display in the driver's helmet reduces the field of peripheral vision available (when focusing on the display). How about designing a display mounted on the motorcycle instead? We're familiar and comfortable with gauges already. This would reduce distraction, and increase safety.
" I think you may be confused about the effect of a rising Canadian dollar. If the dollar continues to go up, importing an iPod should get cheaper."
In Canada, our prices are not directly proportional to the US dollar. If our dollar goes up, our prices remain the same, and we actually end up paying more. For example, if the dollar goes up, a $100 dollar thing will still be $100, but that $100 is now worth more, therefore, the cost is higher.
Mozilla is great, and they will *eventually* be replacing it with thunderbird and firebird. I hope they develop firebird into a PIM suite, like a cross-platform ximian evolution. Windows needs a good alternative to outlook, anyways.
This has been a long awaited release! Mozilla developement is usually much faster, but in the last month or so very little has been happening in terms of milestone releases.
Also, I read somewhere that 1.5 was going to be the last release of mozilla.
"Doubtful, Europa's surface is continually bombarded by huge amounts of radiation accelerated by Jupiter's magnetic field(created by the Io flux torus), it is almost certinaly quite sterile."
Sterile, maybe, but do you define life? Theoretically, life as we know it could be electrical impulses, which would be unaffected by radiation. A computer is a collection or electrical signals, which can be interfered by electromagnetic radiation, but there are some very simple ways to get around that interference. Ever heard of the term Artificial Intelligence? Whose to say a metal and electricity being couldn't have evolved like ourselves? It may be far out, but considering the size of the universe, its possible. Right now we define all life as H20 based, which is very naive IMHO.
Maybe i'm not the only one, but i've done a little 3D animation in my life. From my experiences, i have found that DirectX is far slower than OpenGL or Glide. When it comes to rendering, or simply editing in 3D, OpenGL is far faster then DirectX (I use an Radeon 9700Pro and a 3Dlabs Wildcat VP760). Also, when playing games that support OpenGL, they tend to run much smoother and faster with OpenGL.
This was probably and elaborate scheme composed by a certain corporation with a 90% marketshare, with the sole purpose of discrediting OSS!
That, or they were running Caldera.
I've heard various rumors that mac's are significantly faster for things such as graphic processing, video editing, and other multimedia type things. Considering the G5 is a 64-bit processor, that would put a dual 2ghz G5 at around 8ghz equivalent. Would a intel or amd based 8ghz machine (quad 2ghz?) perform equivalentely to a dual 2ghz G5? Maybe it would still be superior to a 8ghz i386 machine with multimedia apps? Am i totally out of my realm of computer knowledge?
I'm lame.
I was surprised to see that Canada was only 3rd, considering the government's aim to become a world leader in broadband. I think that the results are somewhat unfair though, because Canada is a lot larger then South Korea, and we have more rural communities which may not even be aware of the existence of the 'internet'. On the other had, its impressive that we are 3rd considering we are the 2nd largest country in the world, and we have a relatively small population (30 million or about 1/10th the US).
Most of these stories aren't anything i haven't heard yet. I also never turn on CNN.
Up here in Canada, this is the kind of stuff they teach us at public school (atleast where I am). I find it unfourtunate how uninformed our southerly friends are on their own happenings. Maybe there is an education/media crisis in the US?

The bug effects older unix systems. So if your still using UnixWare, you may be in trouble.

Besides that, some people must have a lot of time on their hands.

82 miles = 131.966208 kilometers (Thanks google)

psst...am i the only one who can't find any infromation on it?
