You don't put something like that into production immediately, you test the damn thing till you know it's not gonna screw your business up and then and only then do you implement it on your production machines. This is much cheaper than hiring programmers, and it's completely contrary to what M$ would want you to do(since they would also want you to pay for an additional license for your test machine..not a problem for those of us who use Linux). M$ took down my design company for a week after a critical update went totally wrong, so this scenario isn't hypothetical by any means. It is a matter of "when", not "if".

"and the same ppl are claiming that global warming is a myth."

OT, but... Actually, global warming could be a myth, and I'm not one to believe in ID or any of that silly superstitious crap. The reason it may be a myth is simple: volcanoes. Each one puts out more pollution in a day than we can possibly put out in our lifetimes, IIRC, and when the major content of that pollution is sulfur dioxide, it changes to sulfuric acid when it hits moisture, which creates a COOLING effect because H2SO4 acts as a mirror.

    From http://arstechnica.com/journals/science.ars/2006/1 0/23/5718 :
Nature lent credence to this radical idea through two events, the 1982 eruption of the volcano El Chichón and the more recent eruption of Mount Pinatubo in 1991. The eruption of Pinatubo left large quantities of water droplets containing sulfuric acid, each of which reflected some of the sun's energy away from the earth--enough in fact to cool the earth at a rate of about 0.5 oC/yr for almost two years after the eruption.

While this article wasn't saying that we were facing global cooling(they wanted to use the idea to fight global warming), any increase in volcanic activity would create that exact effect. So at the moment, the warming aspect isn't quite so set in stone as we would like to think.

Next, you don't have a "right", you have a desire. If they publish the source code then you have the right to view it, otherwise you're SOL. You're likely not a king or otherwise powerful enough person to get such things done so put your words in some perspective.

See my post above about why this is the case. An unmounted diamond(or fake) sells for FAR less than a mounted one. If you tried to sell the ring back to a jeweler, they would offer you the unmounted value of the diamond which makes some people think the diamond lost its value where it actually goes up in value a minimum of 12% per year.

"Diamonds are sort of boring for her now -- she sees how little they store value over time versus gold, and they're not very useful in a financial emergency (versus gold or platinum)."

I think you are misunderstanding diamonds in this aspect. A diamond's value goes up a minimum of 12% per year regardless of market trends as opposed to gold which fluctuates according to some idiot's thoughts on inflation. Now let me clarify, that's NOT to say that a diamond RING will go up in value, just the unmounted diamond. That's where most people get confused because an unmounted diamond sells for a lot less than one mounted but when you try to sell a diamond ring back to a jeweler they offer you the unmounted price(sometimes not that much but their price is based on the appraised unmounted value) and maybe $5 for the ring itself so it appears as though the diamond's value has dropped. Befriend a jeweler and ask them if that's not the case. BTW, you can make money in gold but it's not a guaranteed thing. I have a friend who makes BANK buying used diamonds thanks to this knowledge.
