    Security and Privacy. The ability to prevent unwanted pop-up, pop-under, and browser hijacking. Microsoft will not go against advertisers. You can download and install addons to rid yourself of unwanted adds, but when that happens in bulk MS will release a brower update incompatable with that addon.

    How long until the strong headed geeks that make up these companies disagree and go their separate ways. I think this will be more along the lines of dropping four Siamese Fighting Fish into the same bowl.

    In order for them to have any hope they desperately need a tie breaker. "The vote is 2 for and 2 against" just does not work.

    So? He is entitled to his beliefs. If his beliefs automatically bias his research, then how is the research of the scientists with the opposite beliefs biased? In that case I will only believe the research of white male scientists in their mid thirties who like to fish, and play golf.

    The GPL requires anyone holding a patent on the software to allow others to freely use/modify it.
    From the GPL license:

    Yes on that piece of software, but not on the methods or technology.

    You act as if the consumer will be forced into a package he/she does not want. That is so short sighted.

    I bet the software package sold with the PC can be as interesting as the hardware itself. This may give some real difference between Dell, Gateway, Hp ect.

    Get the drift that maybe this could create some new and alive software companies.

    Just be sure to participate. Vote in all elections that you are eligible to. Vote in the primaries. Just don't forget to Vote.

    You should write your senators and congressperson fairly regularly about issues that concern you. If you do not do at least this little then you get what you deserve.

    We have a public school system monopoly which is ineffective.
    For whatever reason we defend it.
    We need to get rid of it.

    My twelve year old son is terrible bored with his non-challenging schoolwork.
    How many people believe this is a 6th grade honors homework assignment:
    Underline the words that are not capitalized.
    Well it was.

    Our school system are producing inferior products. The school system have produced every excuse available. Overcrowding, Low Funds, Hard to keep and maintain good people, etc. Then I read my children's assignments/textbooks and know it is the system. People on slashdot are against monopolies, we need to get the school voucher program passed so there would be open competition. I want to see my son challenged as much as he can take.

    When you call 911 your area code is used to route the call to the local 911 operator. If you live in Ca, but have a NY area code, "Which this service allows" the call will go to the wrong location. Same problem with cell phones. Any phone can dial 911, but you do want a local 911 operator.

    She downloaded DIVX, which was supported by GAIN.

    Her computer became so slow that she was unable to use it. GAIN was unable to call home, because her system is behind a firewall.

    We uninstalled DIVX, which should, according to GAIN cause GAIN to uninstall. "It is the only GAIN supported application installed". They lied! One day later it was still chewing up her cycles. "No call home, no uninstall" Her computer was still so slow.

    I was forced to do a manual uninstall of the GAIN.

    I will not use, or purchase any software package that has any association with GAIN.

    Update your resume that is, because net ads do not work.

    I have never bought something from a net ad. I most likely never will. I use pricewatch to check prices. Look at the site decide if they are to be trusted. "Does ssl work etc" Then place my order.
    I order Pizza online from the one company that takes orders here.
    I will not buy clothes online.
    Groceryworks like service is not available here.

    Good luck with your new jobs. And no I do not want to supersize that.

    We are not hiding secrets, we are protecting privacy. Anyone including spamers can read your mail. Anyone including child molesters can read that little girls mail. Anyone can read your email. Does it happen? Yes!

    Privacy is worth protecting.

    Everyone here uses gpg or equiv for your email right?
    As a member of several mailing list most people do not even have gpg signatures, those that do never upload their public keys.
    Breaking 1024 bit encrytpion isnt that big of a deal for most people.

    I guess they like running naked through public parks.

    You make assumptions. It was Linux that was being displayed on 27 playstation 2. They had it thrown out on the grounds that the playstation is sold as a gaming console, not that it was being used as one. They were showing programs like Abiword.
