  1. I thought Broadband Was... on Broadband isn't Broadband Unless its 2Mbps? · · Score: 2, Insightful
I don't really like this redefinition. I thought broadband had to do with the way in which data is transferred; ie. the ability to send multiple frequencies or channels, where as baseband can only handle one. I guess my Network+ book is outdated, or soon will be.

  3. features - (kinda) on Why are Websites Still Forcing People to Use IE? · · Score: 3, Insightful
Many sites (especially employee websites) require IE because they are using some active-X or item that IE has integrated into it. People say, "cool I can use x,y,z instead of a stand alone app." Since IE is so much more then a browser it does all of this wonderful things. Annoying I know, but people want a one stop app for everything even if it means you use IE to imput your time or run some database app for work.

People just need to realize that a web browser should be used for browsing the web and the websites should be HTML compliant.

It was no big deal the dinosaurs were added to several scenes in Jurassic Park, or that that a liquid metal man can walk through steel bars in terminator, but now the CGI has gotten so good at blending with live action it is no a moral problem. I don't know about you but I go to the movies (rarely) for entertainment. I expect to see the best possible image and scene. I really have no concern about how the images were created as long as the blend and I can't tell were the CG is. Now if I am watching the news or a documentary I might want to know about these changes. This seems more like the actors complaining that their performance was good enough as is. They have a makeup artist for their face why not a graphics person in post production. This is lame and BS.

All stem from bulgin and leaky capacitors. Most of these systems where between 1-2 years old (none over three).

  7. House Security System on How to Protect a Home When Away in Winter? · · Score: 1
I currently use ADT as my home security/fire/moisture etc monitoring service. I have a smoke detector that also monitors carbon monoxide and moisture content of the air (this is used to determine if a pipe is broken). The also sell a unit for monitoring temp. (usually used for attic spaces). Then they just call you if there is a problem, plus you get the security monitoring as well.

I know that insurance companies (like State Farm) spend a lot to promote products that will help in your home. I know for a large investment you can install devices that sense water on your floors (bathrooms/kitchen/basement)When they sense that there is a leak they turn the water off to the house. (although I would assume this might not be a problem. If your leaving your will probably be turning the water off). The same kind of valve system can be used with a temp. sensor to keep the pipes from bursting.

A request is made and access is given, but using the Windows Wireless Connection utility to connect would hardly be hacking.

Yes "nuclear waste" (or waster from a nuclear reactor) is better then the pollution from a coal power plant. With nuclear energy you get hot water and a contained, concentrated radioactive substance. From a coal powerplant you get millions of tons of air pollutants as well as radioactivty. There is plenty of uranium and other radioactive materials locked in coal that is released when burned. A coal powerplant release more radioactive particles in to the atmosphere then nuclear plants do.
