another site: ABCFREE.COM
used to do the same thing, but they would stick Google Ads in between the actual scraped content so you were more inclined to accidently click a Google Ad than the Classified that you really wanted to see. ABCFREE.COM seems to have lost their Google Ad account because of this and then I guess it was not worth scraping Craigslist anymore because the site has "down for maintenence" page up now for quite some time.
How many other sites had a business plan like this based on scraping Craigslist and sticking up Google Ads?
Oodle may be a good site, but it appears that many other sites decided to do the same thing around the same time span.
If I was running Craigslist I would wonder why the hell all these other sites were sucking our bandwidth and content and I would cut them off too.
there are several US Government Registered Importers in the USA that can convert cars to US Standards.
G&K Auto is the only one that can legally import and convert a smart fortwo to US-complaint NHTSA, DOT and EPA standards, but only the 2003-2006 models and only those with the 600cc gas engine.
They originally had a deal with ZAP! from California who distributed them ONLY to their "licensed franchises" (those that paid $50K for the right...)The ZAP! Smarts are no longer even on their website!
Now it appears that anyone can buy them direct from G&K as long as they buy 10 cars.
Wholesale price is around $24K for these and they only convert the top of the line Passion model and the Passion cabrio.
The resale prices of these will go in the toilet as soon as the 2008 model is available from "official" channels and "real" smart dealers will not do any work on the older converted models as the converted models have had their computer systems reverse engineered and tweaked to meet US EPA standards. I don't think the converted ones will work with smart's computer diagnostics either.
I have some friends that paid close to $30K for one of these and they have no regrets, they are all Early Adopters and are used to this nonsense.
The money is nothing. But right now they have a car that says "LOOK AT ME! LOOK AT ME!"
note: I drove one of these around the US for several months a couple years ago when a German friend brought it here on a "Tourist Visa". It was a bunch of fun to drive and everyone I spoke to said "Everyone should drive one of these", but when I asked them if THEY would buy one or let their KIDS drive one, most everyone said "NO WAY!" They wanted to wrap their kids in a much sheet metal as possible so they were "safe".
"After regular complaints, the National Consumer Agency in Denmark sent a suspect iMac G4 to Delta, an independent electronics laboratory to have it examined."
So I ask:
"Please provide an example of something "just as good for cheaper that did the same thing". and you show a cheap Dell system that runs Windows XP?
It does not do "the same thing". It does not run OSX so it does not really do "the same thing" does it?
"Use proper IT Policy and you shouldn't have any problems and it will run whatever you want."
Really? I want it to run OSX, how does that work on the Dell?
It sounds like the company using all Macs is already using "proper IT policy".
all it takes it for someone to NOT be able to use some ActiveX feature and they won't be using a Mac or anything else.
All the Realtors I know (except my wife) use Windows because there is always one web-based thing they use or some Program they bought that NEEDS ActiveX or IE to function at all.
I can work around it, but they can't. A computer is just a tool for them.
Another client wants a security webcam up on his website, but the software that runs the security system needs ActiveX.
Other than that, there is no reason for him to use Windows.
But if he can't view his Securitycam thingie on the Intarweb, he'll stick with Windows forever.
None of these people have a good reason to go out and upgrade to VISTA, but when their current computer goes kaput, they will be trotting out to Best Buy to get the cheapest piece of junk they can find to replace it. I don't know when OEMs will stop shipping new computers with XP on them though.
Eventually most all of them WILL be using VISTA, like it or not.
is a bit harder than you may realize
GoDaddy has this thing where you pay $20, and when the domain becomes available they'll buy it for you and put it under your name. Has anyone tried this service and had it work? I have all my domains registered there and there was one that was expiring and ready to "drop" and I wanted it, so I registered to try to get it with GoDaddy.
But I had also read the story (posted in a reply below somewhere) about how the whole business of getting "dropped" domains worked.
Basically if the Registrar "drops" the domain from it's system, whoever happens to be there at the precise moment it "drops" can snag it.
It's like being part of a hungry mob in a street and someone is throwing a piece of candy off a 10-story building.
Your chances of getting it increase if you have Longer Arms, are Taller and have also brought as many other people acting on your behalf along as well to try to "catch" it.
I ended up registering with several "Drop Catchers" and when the domain I wanted did drop...GoDaddy was NOT one of the "winners"
however- one of the "Drop Catchers" I had registered with DID get it.
however- more that one entity had registered for that domain with that "Drop Catcher" so it promptly went off to an auction.
I dropped out when it went over $800, the name went to one of these guys in the Cayman Islands and will now and forever be one of those crappy place-holder on-page domains that you might happen upon if you clicked an old link to the website that used to be there.
Who would buy a Rock for a Pet? yet....it happened.
There is a whole untapped market of gifts that are "not nice". I mean, what do you get someone in the family when you HAVE to get them a present, but you don't like them?
Perhaps they could do a tie-in with those new "LearnAboutCoal.org" commercials and throw Santa in there too.
SANTA:"Well, lets see little Johnny has been very Naughty this year, so he gets a lump of coal!"
Johnny:"Well at least I can burn this and keep warm for a few minutes"
SANTA:"And little Bobby has been especially naughty so he gets a Zune!"
Bobby:"Whaaaa!!!......."
[end tag]: UPS voiceover:"What can Brown do for YOU?"
It was not meant as a joke. Just an observation.
The email address in question is not posted anywhere and nothing even close to it ever gets Spam.
The only conclusion I can come to at the moment is that the spam is coming from other User's computers with Windows OS installed.
If that is the case, how do you "foil" the email harvesters that are ON SOMEONE ELSE'S WINDOWS COMPUTER?
my suggestion was a bit extreme, but I am open to other options that are on topic with this subject.
So many people use NOSPAMjohn@NOSPAMexample.com (remove the NOSPAM to reply)
or some variation of that, I tried using spam@example.com as my email address on Google Groups and previously on Usenet.
I got pretty much nothing. No spam. Not then, not now.
Since the email harvesters apparently filter out variations of addresses with SPAM, NOSPAM, DIESPAMMERS etc in them, once they filter out the "SPAM" part of spam@example.com they are left with @example.com which is not a valid email address.
Sneakernet is still your best option.
or maybe Homing Pigeons?
I am serious, if Sneakernet is good enough for Google, why not for you?
he did the trade for the same reason GoldenPalace.com buys a grilled cheese sandwich with the Virgin Mary on it.

My comment was about the REGISTER article.
"After regular complaints, the National Consumer Agency in Denmark sent a suspect iMac G4 to Delta, an independent electronics laboratory to have it examined."
So what is it? An iBook or iMac?
a really really big one. With Vending Machines.
And it is in the middle of a Bus Station.

ah the good old days, when I used to live next door to a 10 acre Fencing operation..er...Flea Market.
What if the item was sent through FedEx or UPS?
thanks for that link btw...
What is going on here?
Is the Zune supposed to be some sort weapon?
(ps, I am old, do you kids "get it"?)

I have seen no change in the level of spam since then.
The email address in question is not posted anywhere and nothing even close to it ever gets Spam.

I have found that using SPAM as your username works wonders
just post it right there on the webpage or leave it as a mailto:spam@example.com
So many people use NOSPAMjohn@NOSPAMexample.com (remove the NOSPAM to reply)
or some variation of that, I tried using spam@example.com as my email address on Google Groups and previously on Usenet.

I have one email that I use specifically for REPLYING to emails and that one is the one that gets the MOST Spam.
